thanks. one lady put the tract “the end of false religionis near” on CAF here, and i read it, and it just states the usual propaganda by the falsetower. its not even worth the read if you ask me unless you want to refute what they state in it.

I received the same literature from the JW’s. I read it, marked the errors on it for the next time they show up. Earlier this year I had one of the JW area leaders show up at my door. I know who he is because he is a cousin of a Christian friend of mine and he always tries to convert his cousin to become JW. I asked this JW leader about John 20 at the end of the chapter where St. Thomas in a locked room with the other apostles suddenly meets Jesus post resurection, sees and touches Jesus’ hands and says “My Lord and My God.”
I asked this JW why did Thomas call Jesus “God” when the Bible clearly says their is only one God? (Deut 32:39)
He didn’t have an answer. He returned once again a few weeks later and I asked him again and he said he would look into it. He showed up again but I was gone, so he left his number. I called it and left a message to call my cell phone to discuss this issue, but unfortunately he didn’t call and I haven’t seen him since.
On what to do, well if you know your Catholic faith enough to dialogue with JW’s then talk to them nicely, however, if you don’t know much about Catholicism then it’s best not to answer the door.

I got that same tract on my door today. The JW’s are notoriously anti-Catholic and alot of their members are ex-Catholics. They go door to door with scripted passages that are taken from the Bible out of context. Their Watchtower Bible is a blatently altered version of the Bible done to fit their own peculiar theology. They believe that Jesus was not divine but was Michael the Archangel and they think the Holy Spirit is just a nonpersonal force. In their theology, those who aren’t saved are not condemned to hell but anniliated out of existence. Those who are saved are the 144,000 who get to heaven (yes, they take the number literally) and all others who don’t get anniliated get to reside on an “ideal” earth. They also insist that Jesus died on a pole not a cross. They’ve changed their doctrine some 4,000 times since the denomination was founded by Charles Russell and have falsely predicted the end of the world more than a few times. In other words, the JW’s can’t be taken seriously and are obviously very misguided. Since they are not permitted to take literature from Catholics or any or other denomination, the best and most efficient way to help them is to pray for their conversion.

some of them do take literature from Catholics, but the seriously indoctrinated ones will rid themselves of it as soon as they are out of your site assuming they take it in the first place.
they usually don’t. i’ve known a few personally who were what they considered " bench warmers" they only have a half hearted belief in the jw belief. these are the ones that are easier to talk to, while they might not truly believe what the falsetower teaches, they are more prone to listening than the heavily brainwashed ones are.
what galls me, is that i allowed myself to be brainwashed, and if i had spent those 10 years as a member of the falsetower in Catholicism, I would’ve been alot happier. regardless, the fact is is that they are a false belief and we need to reach ones who are in there and help them get out.

I found this in my living room when I was living with a JW. I read through it and it is very careful to not name names…but the fact that there’s a Catholic Priest pictured in the margin, lol, a picture says a thousand words I guess.

We got one today, in the middle of a spelling lesson so I didn’t interrupt school to talk to the lady. I accepted the brochure, then read the headline after I closed the door. " ‘The end of False Religion is Near.’ Great!" I told my kids. “Then everyone will be a member of the Universal Church!” They knew exactly which one that is.
After we finished our spelling, we had logic and apologetics class based on the pamphlet. We read what was written, then figured out the flaws in their logic or their translation. We looked up the passages in our NAB, and read the notes at the bottom of the page. We paid attention to the questions they were asking, and how the questions themselves were misleading.
The tract calls Jesus Christ a “highly respected religious figure.” Even my youngest, at seven, knows that Jesus is God made man.
The tract asks “How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?” The question should be how many religions encourage their members to engage in war?
It suggests that religions are false because political leaders “are cynically manipulating people’s religious sentiments for their own needs.” This is an argument against the leaders, but can not be used to prove that the religions themselves are false.
It uses OT theology to prove that there we do dot have an immortal soul. They completely disregard the words of Jesus, that “widely respected religious figure,” who clearly states that the soul does not die, but can be destroyed in Gehenna.
And that is just the first three paragraphs.

Gee Loren, do you homeschool or are you teaching in a religious school? I thought that was awesome that you incorporated THEIR literature into your lesson to teach the errors in it!! The closer I look at your post the more it seems that you are homeschooling. I was picturing you at first standing in front of a classroom of 30 kids and this woman walking in with this tract

They came knocking on my door this past Saturday morning as well. I opened the door, and 2 older Spanish-speaking women gave me this large (8x10) tract that said “Se Acerca el Fin de la Religion Falsa!” (The end is near for the False religion). I speak Spanish but I humbly declined to further a discussion or set-up a future date. But when I closed my door and skimmed through the blasphemous propaganda contained in the pamphlet, I changed my mind. In Spanish, it was saying that the “false religion is now ordaining homosexuals and lesbians into their priesthood, and that the believers of this religion have by majority declared homosexuality as normal for society.” Next to this paragraph, was a picture of a priest with collar, clearly Catholic. Then there was other drawings of the Whore of Babylon, and the seven-headed dragon of Revelation, and what not. Clearly, I got the message. I opened my door and called over the ladies who were now putting their pamphlets under the door of my neighbor’s house. I said in an humble manner, “I noticed the charges you make in thie pamphlet, are you suggesting this is the Catholic Church?” The ladies didn’t want to directly admit it (perhaps because I already told I’m Catholic) and gave a quite loose, leaning to the affirmative, answer.
First I explained to them that they should not be passing out papers of which intentionally lies to people, that the Catholic Church is the strongest voice against the tide of homosexuality, that their sect was started by an opportunist American in the late 19th century (for many Latin Americans, it is considered somewhat of a disgrace if you allowed Americanism or U.S. Americans to influence, or especially to invent, your spiritual beliefs) who he himself broke away from Seventh-Day Adventist teachings, and that he several times falsely predicted the end of the world, only later to make up theological excuses for his false prophesy, that the “'Watchtower Bible Society of Pennsylvania” is your central authority of your religion and that it operates in shadowness in which the directors of the organization do not reveal themselves fully nor allow debate.
They really had no answers, often just replying with “Would you like someone to come by your house tomorrow for a talk?” Very humbly, my answer was always “thank you, but no.” I think they were shocked to see that a fairly young Catholic in Miami actually knew something of his faith, and theirs.
It’s quite sad though, these type of groups have really grown exponentially in Miami among the Spanish speakers. On my street alone, there’s was enough of them to have 2-3 people at each house at about 10 houses a time, all Latins, and interestingly - mostly women. Most of them were probably born into Catholic families. All forms of non-Catholic christianities have been spreading rapidly in Miami, thanks to anglo-Americans from out of state heavily prostelyzing to the Spanish speaking people in South Florida…

I was in the parking lot of a kingdom hall one saturday in a discussion with some of the JW women… they were pretty flustered with my Bible knowledge (and contradicting their doctrines). So, they asked for my address to give to their husbands to come by for a Bible study. Of course I obliged as it was an opportunity to share the gospel.
Not 10 minutes after I got home two JW women showed up at my door. Since I know that they operate in pairs… one being the leader, and the other being the trainee… I used the statements of the leader to initiate conversation with the trainee by giving valid arguments against the leader’s remarks.
When the leader realized that I was starting to get through to the trainee, she almost dragged her off my porch while making some angry comments toward me… I was able to get the trainee to take a gospel tract as I encouraged her to read it when she was alone…
They never have been back to my house… and their husbands never showed up either

I had a similar experience with two JW’s that came calling. After about 15 minutes the senior member whisked the trainee away in a big hurry. During the course of our conversation which revolved around Jesus as the second person of the Trinity, the trainee’s head began nodding up and down acknowledging the truths that were being uncovered by scripture.
The thing that really struck home and put the lead person in a position with no answer was related to Jesus sacrifice on the cross. As our savior Jesus had to be both God and man in order to satisfy the requirements for our redemption. Only an infinite being could render a sacrifice of inifinite value. A finite being, Adam, sinned against our infinite God and Adam and his descendents became obligated to provide atonement and expiation for the fall and for the sins of men. No mere man, however, could accomplish our redemption. God the Father therefore sent his divine son, Jesus, who is both human and divine to provide that sacrifice which is of infinite value.
The other things I pointed out were as follows:
–In the Book of Revelation Jesus refers to himself as the Alpha and the Omega which is a reference that can only rightly belong to God.
–In the gospels Jesus tells the Jewish elders that “before Abraham I am.” “I am” is the name reserved for God.
–Jesus also refers to himself as “I am” in the garden when he about to be arrested.
–In Genesis the creation account says: "Then God said, ‘Let **us **make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ "
JW’s argue against the Trinity. The teaching on the Trinity is a great place to zero in on because it is an essential part of Christianity and there is biblical evidence that supports this truth that JW’s cannot handle or explain.
I hope that what I have related here can help and encourage others when evangelizing Jehovah Witnesses.

That is to mean that Jesus, and the thief would be in paradise that very day… not later in the new “kingdom”.
When I used that particular argument two elderly JW women became belligerent, and made a real scene in the neighborhood we were both evangelizing in.

That is true, they will often do that. I remember going out on a call when I was newly baptized, and the lady we spoke to was a born again Christian, and when we could not get through to her because she was making many valid points, she did not sway me, but the lady I had studied with, and became friends with whisked me out of there and when we got outside, she said 'satan has a hold of her". looking back on it, satan didn’t have a hold on the lady, but rather God does, and my ex friend couldn’t handle the truth.

When I think of it now it upsets me. That they would pollute the minds of young unmatured children. Anyways, of course I was not schooled that well to argue with them, but I knew that people when they died, went to heaven. They refuted that with some line saying “In german ‘holle’ means grave, so it means, that dead people will go to the graves”. Thank God I knew that the Bible wasn’t written in German and I told her this. The woman then started stumbling turned a bit pink from shame and the man quickly took over the conversation. At this point though, even being 12(!) I knew there was something fishy, so I asked them to leave politely.
When my mom came back, she told me to never open the door again to such people. They did come back 3 or 4 times after that, but I never opened again

When I “studied” with them, they explained that the verse is punctuated incorrectly.
Instead of “Verily I say unto you, this day you will be with me in Paradise.”, they say the verse should read, “Verily I say unto you this day, you will be with me in Paradise.”

Here is just some of the different translations of Luke 23:43 from greeknewtesament.comThe web page also list the Greek, but it didn’t show up right in the preview so you will have to go here to see it.
I can’t read Greek… However all the English translations listed have the coma in the same place. So how is their (JW) version of the bible is different???
I have an elementary understanding of Latin… (I took it during my 4 years of Public High School as my foreign Language class).
I’m going to be digging out my Latin to English/ English to Latin dictionary and verb dictionary and see what I come up with. (Although I assume it will be the same as the English translations already listed.)
