By the way, your tactic is precisely the type of tactic employed at CARM to instigate and antagonize. You are proving the point of the thread by your actions.

It appears that before the Council of Nicea, one could deny the Trinity, and it would have no bearing on their salvation. Did the Church change the essentials at Nicea? Just a thought.
Good question…and the answer is no.

Nicea was only a repudiation of Arianism, not a first time definition of the Trinity. Nicea was convened against false doctrine, not so much to define a new dogma.

Not so with modern RC definitions.

PS - no council, from whatever church, can add or alter the essentials of salvation, no matter how much they believe they can.
And, just so you know, I have often been frustrated by such developments as the Assumption myself. I’m still a little wary of anything defined after the Schism with the Orthodox…
But many more are coming. They must.

I often ask faithful Catholics how many new dogmas will be defined in the next 200 years or so. They don’t know. They cannot even say what the next one will be.

What Catholics must believe to be saved 500 years from now (if the Lord tarries) will not be what they must believe today.

This is extremely problematic and not in line with the Apostolic witness, IMV.

IRRELEVANT.

I never claimed that God picked up pen and paper. I merely said God authored the Scriptures.

Undeniable…except in this thread.

Like I said, you are not paying attention at all.
I think this is an apples and oranges arguement: The scripture were penned by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, agreed. Both God and men authored the scriptures correct?

Quite relevant. You attempted to employ a deceptive tactic to instigate and antagonize.

By pitting yourself against what he said you have taken the opposing position. I can only assume from your lack of scriptural backup that you know your argument is failing.

Like I said, you are not paying attention. Why did you not include 137 when you knew it was quite relevant to his position? One can only assume since you appear have or be referencing the catechism that you knew it was there. It’s hard to miss being right after 136.

Once again, please cite your scriptural references.

So there weren’t any Christians until the sixteenth century? A little late for a doctrinal necessity, wouldn’t you say?

ALLFORHIM:
I thought the early christians did believe in all that I posted…
Yes, the Early Christians subscribed to AFH’s teachings. Then the Church disappeared until Luther restored it to its former glory of 33 000 denominations.

Nothing new under the sun right?
Evidently you thought of it first.

OOPs sorry I just noticed final authority
That would be you, right?

ALLFORHIM said:
–I forgot the CC doesnt teach that.

If you are saying that we don’t believe you are the Pope, I think you got it right. Well done, AFH! Yay!
😃

Like I said, if you don’t believe in the idea that God created people to be free, that is your loss.

Maybe you seek a nice theocratic (Catholic) tyranny. Good for you.

It is very interesting that you equate freedom of expression with sin. I have had these dialogues with devout Catholics before. They often long for the Golden Age of the Inquisitions.

Who knows, maybe your wish will become a reality…
Thats exactly what is going on at carm. An inqusition of Catholics.

Do you condone that too?

The mistakes of history should be learned from, not repeated.

Just so you know that post that you picked apart was not meant to be sarcastic or nasty. Im sorry you took it that way.😦

You mean like the golden age of protestant inquisitions? Care to discuss those are prefer not to acknowledge their existence (as has been the primary means of dealing with them)

How about more recent ones, when the United States invaded the Philippines and killed 4 million catholics in order to christianize them? The Philippines were all catholics. During WW2 it was called a holocaust for killing 6 million Jews. Is that the magic cut off number? So the Philippines wasn’t a holocaust by these supposed christians?

Want some more golden age? The KKK for example? Tower of London perhaps? America, the witch trials maybe?

Log meet eye.

Pure nonsense.

I said that God authored the Scriptures and the poster said that was NOT accurate.

He was wrong…and your defense of his error only speaks more about you than it does me.

You would have neen better served by correcting the poster to begin with. Now he will be emboldened to again declare that it is not accurate to say God authored Holy Writ.

The mere fact that I must convince Catholics of this is simply amazing.

This claim is only in your head and not reality.

Of course, if a Catholic believes that telling them that their church is not what it claims to be is an inquisition, then there is nothing anyone can do about that.

Like I said earlier, I have been recently called an “anti-Catholic” here that “does not worship the real Jesus” and I “worship the Bible.”

Of course, no Catholics would condone that…

Sigh.

The Dogma have been handed to all mankind thru the Pillar and Foundaition of Truth 1Tim 3:15 and have not and will not change and more than God will change.

You found David’s website! I didn’t know he had this particular one. He has another one.

Yay! You go David! He is singing by the way this Thursday at the March for Lifein Ottawa. If any of you can get up there it is going to be well worth it and it isn’t cold out anymore. Quite warm as a matter of fact.

Well at least your consistent.

You interpret everything the same way you interpret scripture.

Let’s see:

I could say “The sky is blue” and you’d respond. No the sky is only blue for Catholics because you are under the tyranical oppresion of a papist doctrine, if you were free to interpret the truth for yourself you’d see that the sky is sometimes white and grey and black.

But as you cas see right here in the Catechism it says sometimes it rains so if you see think the sky is blue then take it up with your church.

Chuck
Because he put “inspired” at odds with “authored.”

“I belive “inspired” not “authored” would be the word of choice.”
The Church is clear that God is the Author of Holy Writ.

If you now want to claim that God is the author of Scripture but never authored it, then you are on your own in that fantasy.

You are not paying very good attention.

I said: “your church also says that God authored the Scriptures”

The RC poster replied: “Really? I don’t think that is quite accurate”

Wrong.

It is TOTALLY accurate, even according to the RCC herself.

It is amazing how I find myself constantly defending what the Church teaches against Catholics.

Amazing.

I see you make no effort to prove anything you say. It is all about power and status, isn’t it? Easily derived at CARM.

Nonsense.

You said it was not accurate that God authored Scripture.

You were wrong.

Get over it.

So exactly what that I said was wrong?

Oh wait never mind that’s not the way it goes…

It’s my turn.

You were wrong.

uhn uh…

You were wrong.

oh yeah…well my daddy can beat up your daddy…

Well this has been fun.

Admit it. You can’t prove that it was nonsense. You just expect us to agree with you on the basis of your presumptions to status.

You are misrepresenting what the poster said in order to score points. Phyrric victory really, but if it you prize such things then help yourself.

Thing about points is that some folks think if they score enough of them that it makes a line – a line of reasoning that is. And ya know what? It just doesn’t.

So sad. 😦 😦 😦

He said God did not pick up pen and paper and author scripture. I have repeated his quote in previous posts and shall do so again:

“God didn’t pick up a pen an jot a few things down.”

Since you are claiming he is wrong I have challenged you to provide scripture that supports your position…

No offense but you are wrong. Michael has already attempted to correct this but since you insist on your position I am afraid we must insist that you back it up since you have placed yourself in and are taking the opposing position.

It seems you must keep avoiding this to in order to keep from admitting you employed a deceptive tactic. The Holy Spirit leads to all truth particularly when we are called to examine ourselves and admit what we did wrong. Obstinate refusal is rejection of his guidance.

Your claim. Provide scripture.

No, what is pure nonsense and simply amazing is that you employed a deceptive tactic and it backfired. Trapped and caught yourself. Now you can’t admit it without appearing foolish.
