How can I believe in The Eucharist more? I know that Jesus is truly present but I want to feel more devoted to the Eucharist. How can I love the Eucharist more?

Book IV of The Imitation of Christ has a lot of good stuff to really kindle a fire of desire for the Eucharist.

You know Christ is present. How blessed we are. That Christ, our savior, comes to us in the humble guise of bread and wine. How unworthy we are to receive such a gift, how unable to repay Him but with the weakest of thanks, but still He gives himself. And He strengthens us. How blessed we are. We come to Him in the sacrament and He gives us rest. Those are some of the things I took away from it. (I’ll have to get to the other books in Imitation next.)

Read the writings of the saints on the Blessed Sacrament and pray their prayers. They all had a deep love for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and it can rub off on you. You should also ask Him to give you a deeper love for Him in the Blessed Sacrament.

Adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament can be a profound, life-changing event. I would counsel you to find when your local parish offers adoration. Then, just go and spend time with Him. Take bible, Rosary or just yourself.

Tell him, silently (or aloud of you are alone), that you desire to believe more deeply in Him. Then, be as patient with Him as He has been with you.

When you receive your consolation - your confirmation that He is there, you will be changed.

Pray the Prayer over the Offerings for Trinity Sunday :------

“Grant , we pray , O Lord , that , as promised by your Son , the Holy Spirit may reveal to us more abundantly the hidden mystery of this sacrifice , and graciously lead us into all truth .”

Before every encounter with the Eucharist , ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you .

Ask the Holy Spirit that you may enter more deeply into the mystery of the Eucharist , and that you may have a greater revelation of what the Eucharist is , the Eucharist which will always be in the realm of mystery .

Another vote for Adoration. I went before the exposed Blessed Sacrament for the first time twenty years ago when I randomly chose weekly Adoration as a Lenten activity. It changed my entire spiritual perspective, reinforced a belief in the Real Presence, and sparked a passion for liturgy that continues to this day. I firmly believe that I would never have become (or, subsequently, remained) a head sacristan if it were not for frequent, regular Adoration.

Sometimes it takes a lot of time and work to appreciate something more. I found myself with the same concern about the Eucharist a couple years ago.

What helped me was:
  • making a habit of going to confession often so as to ensure I was receiving the Eucharist free of mortal sin
  • re-reading the Last Supper accounts in the Gospels and 1 Cor 11
  • Adoration
  • reading Brant Pitre’s Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist had a very big impact on me. If you don’t have the time to read it, you can find hour-long youtube videos by him. I’d download them and listen while driving.

Jesus has contained Himself under the presence of bread, and He waits all day, shut up in the Tabernacle, waiting for you to come visit Him, and love Him.
What great love we owe Him, for giving Himself on the altars for us!
