The Eucharist is NOT the body of Christ

The Bible very clearly makes mention of not eating flesh and blood as mentioned in Genesis. By claiming to be eating those elements in the eucharist, it goes completely against that.
This is a classic example of taking the Bible out of context. Read Chapter nine from the beginning.

Are Christians bound by all of the laws given to the Jews? If not, why do you assume they are bound by that one particular law? How do you pick and choose which laws given to the Jews you must obey as a Christian and which laws you are not bound to obey?

Again with the judgments. I went to Church for 5 years or so, was even an altar boy, until I started to come across things that caused me to question what I believed in. Wasn’t too long after that that I felt I couldn’t in good conscience be a Catholic anymore, so I left.
Oh boy…another person duped by Protestantism who thinks that being an Atlar Boy makes them an expert in what Christianity is.
Gosh, how ever did the church get thru 2,000 years without your “truth”? I wasn’t aware that Altar boy training made one an expert in the study of sacred scripture and Christianity itself. Gosh, who knew? LOL

Back when I was a Protestant I used to “poach Catholics” like yourself, and it was like shooting fish in a barrel…you know why? Because a lot of them didn’t bother to LEARN their faith, again…much like yourself.

You sir, have been duped, and your interpretation of scripture is quite flawed. The early church didn’t hold your beliefs, therefore you are in error…and yes, it IS that simple.

2 Peter 1:20 states the matter plainly enough: "Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation."

By the way, what did the early church do for 400 years before the books of the Bible were determined? How did they know what to believe? I get so tired of the arrogance of 21st century people who claim to know more than 1st century Christians.

I shall pray for you. God bless you.

I’ll use a Non-Catholic version

Matthew 26
26While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Mark 14
23Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. 24"**This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," **

Luke 22
17After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
19And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; **do this in remembrance of me.” ** 20In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Haven’t actually, though I may be going to a non-denominational Church beginning tomorrow or sometime soon.
Do you know what the people at this particular church believe?

You should realize that non-denominational congregations are filled with people who have many different interpretations of the Bible, and many different doctrines.

Could it possibly be God’s intent to have his followers so divided?

Are you studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses?

Here is a Protestant translation (the NASB).
1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
1Co 11:28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
1Co 11:29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.
1Co 11:30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.
How does one incur judgement for eating and drinking a symbol? These verses prove the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

I could care less really what any one person in said church believes. My professor goes there, and I’ve heard good things about it, so I might try it out. I should go to the church somewhere anyway.

ajk,

First year of college?

You might want to hold off a bit before making any life changing decisions. Talk to your parents too.

God bless,
VC

What is the point of going to a church if you do not even know what it believes?

In the meantime, post your top five or so “issues” with the Catholic faith here. You may be very surprised to find that what you thought you knew about Church teaching is not in fact what the Church actually teaches. You’ve got nothing to lose, and you’ve got truth (whatever the truth turns out to be) to gain.

Well I did ask the professor if it taught repentance, and was scriptural and what have you, which he said it was.

Well, New Testament was written by the Catholic Church after all…

Huh?

You don’t care and don’t know what the people in the non-denom church you’re going to believe, but you are so dead certain that the Catholic church doesn’t have the answers? You care enough to come on here and attack us? I’m sorry if I’ve been harsh on this thread, but upon reading some of your other threads, I get the feeling you’re really searching and going through some rough times in some ways. I will pray that you find your way back into Christ’s Church one of these days soon.

In some ways I am going through rough times, and trying to get my life together, which has proven difficult for me.

I don’t think any one church has the answer or answers. The answers aren’t there, they are in the Bible, not a church.

I’ve been through rough patches in my life too. I’ll keep you in my prayers, and feel free to send me a PM any time.
