1 Chronicles 28

6 And He said unto me: Solomon thy son, he shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be to Me for a son, and I will be to him for a father.

7 And I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do My commandments and Mine ordinances, as at this day.

Which is consistent with everywhere else where G-d tells us that when we are good, we will be rewarded and when we are bad, we will be punished.

Just like Deuteronomy 30, Ezekiel 36-37, etc. where G-d promises us that just as He exiles us, He will bring us back home again- and He is clearly doing that now, same with the kingship of Solomon.

Forever means forever: The kingship is Solomon’s.

I have no idea what you mean about Psalms 110; couldn’t even get it from the context. Sorry.

Solomon really established the kingdom after King David was dead. That was when he expanded, built the Temple, etc.
The Kingdom of Solomon was not established forever. It was split into two kingdoms when his son Rehoboam became king. Then both kingdoms were dispersed by 587 BC and finally by 70 AD.

Ps. 110 speaks of the pre-existence of Melchizedek. Jesus equates himself with Melchizedek and thus with pre-existence as the Messiah:

**PREEXISTENCE – …V. i. 20) are the Messiah ben David, the Messiah ben Joseph, Elijah, and Melchizedek (Suk. 52a). The Messiah will not come on the Sabbath-day, which is observed in heaven as well as on earth ('Er. 43a); and …Messiah) in their midst (xxxix. 4-7, xl. 5, lxi. 12); he mentions especially the “first fathers and the righteous who have dwelt in that place [paradise] from the beginning” (lxx. 4). In fact, it is a "congregation …IV Esd. vii. 28, xiii. 52, xiv. 9 that “the hidden Messiah will be revealed together with all those that are with him.” Parsism casts light on the origin and significance of this belief also. In “Bundahis” (xxix… **

Solomon built the Temple after his father, King David died, but the fact remains that Solomon became king of Israel while King David was alive and not while he slept (died).

I still don’t understand what you’re getting at. Sorry.

But the real establishment of his kingship was only after David died.

In general, from my end, this will have to wait to be continued. Shabbat is in 1/2 hour and then is Purim, and I will most likely be up to my neck (over my head?) in parenting and enjoying.

Have a good weekend.

YKohen, a good Shabbat to you and your family and a good Purim also.

I do not need to belabor this, only to say that in response to my original question of whether the Messiah could be a descendant of another son of David, namely Nathan, you quoted me the scripture regarding Solomon.

We know from history that the kingdom of Solomon was not forever, hence one could conclude that the Messiah is descended from an alternate son of David. The genealogy of Jesus in the gospel of Luke includes Nathan, son of David. Zechariah 12:12 mentions the clan of Nathan as a probable reference to the descendants of David through Nathan. Thus, as Christians, we believe that Jesus is the son of David through Nathan, not Solomon.

For Christians, the kingdom of Jesus Christ is forever in fulfillment of the prophecy given to King David. Ps.110:1 is traditionally accepted as proof of the eternal kingship and priesthood of Jesus Christ, son of David, Son of God.

Nothing more needs to be said.

All people do good deeds too. Why don’t you call them “good-deed doers”? You choose the negatives that they do.

We believe that G-d gives man free will to choose good or evil, and in fact, everyone does some of each: The righteous do many more good deeds than bad deeds. The wicked to many more bad deeds than good deeds. Most people are somewhere in the middle, and I would like to think, on the good side.

So why call ALL men “sinners”? Because you have the concept of “original sin”?

As I mentioned, we don’t have that concept.
Forget original sin. :thumbsup:I know that everyone does their share of good deeds (“good-deed doers”) as well as bad deeds - some more than others. Do some of those "good-deed doers lead a sin-free (actual sin, not original sin) life from birth to death in your opinion?
