The Father is Greater than I?

Read # 72 Tom!
As far as “being able to be killed”, as you wrote, I believe that God-Incarnate was absolutely helpless when He was born and was at the total mercy of those around Him to take care of Him, just as any other newborn would be.

I also believe that Jesus was just as empty headed as the rest of us when He was born and that was why He was able to “grow” in the sight of man and God.

Code:
Jesus still has His full divine nature so he still equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus did reportedly say what He said, are you saying that He was lying or are you saying something else and if so, what?

Personally, I think/believe that God, voluntarily, took on the limitations of humanity in the Incarnation and this is what Jesus was referring to.

I never said He wasn’t…the fool who started this topic wants to make us answer something the theologians can’t answer!
Theologians are only human being, aren’t they?

We are also human beings.

Just because theologians study about God does NOT mean that they know any more about God than anyone else, sometimes all that some of them know about God is what others say about God.

And is that really “knowing” or just knowing what others say and what others say is it “knowledge” or is it “belief” on their part?

There is a difference between knowledge and belief.

Ever notice that Jesus said, “Blessed is he/she who believes and has not seen…”, it was not, 'blessed is he/she who knows and has not seen…, was it?

What does the Church say on this issue?

26. But the whole three persons are coeternal, and coequal.

I’m pretty sure all three person of the trinity are equal

Yes, he took on human nature while he had his divine nature that is the hypostatic Union

Truetofaith-
I’m not quite sure why you have become offended, or why you have lowered yourself to ad hominum attacks towards ME, when I was asking an honest question that is asked by many.

This question is a big stumbling block for many who deny the Trinity or deny the divinity of Christ.

I fully and truly believe in the trinity myself, but my goal is to more fully understand the theology of it. At the beginning of this conversation we had intellectuals like Prothos making good intellegent comments-whom helped me out quite a bit in my theology. He left the coversation because it became derailed in a wierd direction.

If you don’t have anything positive to add to the conversation and would profer to call people names like “yo yo” and deem the discussion foolish-how the discussion of the nature of Christ is foolish is, beyond me (but hey, I didn’t finish college either)-than stop commenting.

We are here on the forums to either increase our understanding, discuss things of importance or to help evangelize those that come by with questions. What if I wasn’t Catholic? I’d be completely turned away by your attitude. Think of that my friend.

God Bless

You asked an honest question to which people started giving possible answers. I’m sorry I took my frustration out on you…because after 80 plus, posts we are going around & around with no real answer except for people trying to show how intelligent they are with their knowledge of theology!
Why Jesus said “the Father is greater than I” and “I and the Father are one” are questions we can ask when & if we get to heaven. :heaven:
I try to say being a man made Him lesser than the Father, and I was compared to a heretic, so…I got offended & blamed the originator of this discussion.
Titus 3:9 says, " avoid foolish controversies" … and I will take that advice.
Bye! 👋

Yes, Jesus had a human body and a human nature, which means that he got hungry and could be killed in body. I agree with this.

However, you haven’t substantiated how that implies that Jesus could be “hindered by His humanity.” In the Gospel of John, we see that, many times, people sought to kill Jesus, but it could not happen, because it was not His hour. In other words, Jesus couldn’t be hindered, even though He was human.

:hmmm: I guess that means, “no, I can’t back it up with Church teaching”… 🤷
Mr. Gorgias…I believe Jesus is fully God & fully human. Jesus said “the Father is greater than I” …not me, so ask Him when you see Him & leave me out of this foolish topic.
Titus 3: 9 “Avoid foolish controversies.”

That sounds like the Arian heresy

If you didn’t understand it you aren’t a heretic. You are only a formal heretic if you are corrected but remain obstinate about the error.

Hey, pal …it seems you don’t understand…I didn’t bring up these questions, so don’t give me an hour long composition to read.

I’m done with this Topic!!! And I’m just about done with the Catholic Answers Forum!

I gave that since I don’t think I can fully explain it
If you are still reading this Arius basically said Jesus was as divine as a creature could be, Arius did not accept that Jesus was the same substance as the Father and that he was truly God. People tried to correct Arius and he went around spreading his error.

I’m just trying to get you to understand Church teaching.

I probably understand more than you do. I went to 12 years of Catholic school, read the Bible twice, and believe there are 3 Persons in One God. Like I said, only Jesus knows why He said the father is greater…maybe it was to have a little fun with us on this Forum! :p:D:eek:

I’m sure their is a theologian who explained it somewhere
If you accept Jesus was as much as God as the Father than I think you’re fine in this regard
