So in other words, Spencer and co. made no predictions on which they could be evaluated. They only find fault with other people’s predictions. That is hardly what could be called “proved right”.
Spencer and Bastardi do not have the power to fleece wealth producers with new taxation and regulations, but government officials do.
C’mon Hansen, get out there and challenge your critics to a debate, and let’s see who has truth on their side? I’m going out to buy popcorn! 👍

It’s cute how your favorite warmist alarmist blog doesn’t provide an updated comparison of Hansen’s projections vs truth.

The only link on sekpticalscience was to a realclimate chart with 2005 data.
The skeptics’ predictions are way wrong compared to Hansen’s 1988 prediction (which was a bit higher than it turned out) and his 1981 prediction (which was a bit lower):
WARMIST ALARMIST CHART (old data)

In truth, CO2 is per Scenario A but temperatures don’t track. Hansen failed the scientific method.

“Al Gore is not a climate scientist. It would be better if they debate with real climate scientists, which apparently they have done and lost.”

Really? When and where did this debate transpire?
There are plenty of refutations by real scientists of almost all the claims of the skeptics. You can look them up yourself:

See:
realclimate.org/ (check out the posts, most of which refute skeptic claims – they go back to 2004). Also see realclimate.org/wiki/index.php?title=RC_Wiki
There are also quite a few rebuttals of the fallacious skeptic claims here: skepticalscience.com/
To you personally, Lynn, what measures should we take to combat “global warming”, a phenomenon if true, seems like it would be a very good thing. Unfortunately, Israel has had a snowstorm and Niagra Falls has frozen over. And we are two months past the winter solstice! 😦
I’ve been over and over this (why arctic blasts are plaguing America more than usual) – GW-enhanced Rossby waves. As for more snow – a warmer climate holds more WV, which can precip as rain OR snow, depending… I’ve been explaining this over and over and over and over again and providing sources. People should be willing to do a little research on their own. Here’s something by a well-known climate scientist writing for laypeople: skepticalscience.com/warming-arctic-weird-weather.html

As for measures to combat AGW, they basically boil down to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, buy recycled, precycle, become energy/resource efficient/conservative and go on alt energy when feasible. Plus there are promising draw-down measures, like bio-char (pyrolysis), that even produce some energy on the side, etc.

Why people still don’t understand these basics after the public has been informed about AGW for nearly 30 years now and our Holy Fathers have been admonishing us for 25 years to mitigate, I really don’t know. Maybe watching too much junk TV or something, preoccupied with silly things, or just fiddling why the world burns.

Spencer and Bastardi do not have the power to fleece wealth producers with new taxation and regulations.
And this is the excuse why they have not made any predictions? The claim was that they were “proven right”. Exactly what scientific theory of theirs has been proven right?

lynn
so your claim is that he got it so wrong, that he got it right?!?!

We are tracking to Scenario C, where we supposedly mitigated AGW.
Stop making excuses for failed models and supporting theory.
Why, bec his 1981 prediction – the one that included uptake of heat by the deeper oceans, UNDERESTIMATED AGW?
CURRENT CHART
(we are below Scenario C but CO2 predicted Scenario A)

Your chart was useless since we have no idea of the model and method. Was it created in 1880?

YOU trust the scientists programming the data, and I do not. If truth was on the side of the AGW believers, there would be no need to alter data. Now, what do you propose should be done to solve this “problem” of earth warming?
I posted a link to this article because you asked for an explanation why the Niagara Falls are frozen over.
The article explains it through a weakening of the jet stream and a consequential meandering which allows cold air to be pushed further south.

To answer your second question: switch from carbon-based energy generation to renewable sources (solar, water, wind). I would add nuclear, geothermal, waves, tides and ocean currents.

There are other effects on Rossby (Planetary) waves, such as solar wind, UV, and magnetic fields, some coupled. Here are some papers describing those effects:

Thank you. Do you believe that the transition can be made within 25, 50 or 100 years? Remember what a pay for play scandal Solyndra and other solar “companies” turned out to be. Windmills eat copious acreage, BTW, and kill birds by the thousands (as do solar panels).
And we all know what a boondoggle ethanol has been. It was supposed to reduce our dependence on foreign countries, and all it has done is strip prime farm lands of nutrients and skyrocketed the prices of fruits, veggies and livestock.

50-year transition is absolutely no problem, because a power plant is designed for, and depreciated over, a 50-year period. 25-year transition would require a faster write-off of assets.
Remember what a pay for play scandal Solyndra and other solar “companies” turned out to be.
Caveat emptor; Solyndra’s technology was expensive snake oil. Chinese foundries of Si-based panels are profitable.
Windmills eat copious acreage, BTW, .
How exactly do the windmills eat acreage? A base of the tower is, what, 10x10m?
and kill birds by the thousands (as do solar panels)

The underpinnings of any scientific analysis is the data. As long as the is being gathered by a biased community with their thumbs on the scale, the scientific principle which applies is garbage in, garbage out.
Put a lipstick on a pig, and it is still a pig. The most beautiful of graphs and the most astute analysis of the data does not change the basic nature of the data, which is pork.

Yes, I think the transition to renewable energy generation can be done within 25-50 years.
Germany is already on 30% renewable. The efficiency of some material used for solar cells has gone up from 3.8% in 2009 to over 20% in 2014.

More detail here: scientificamerican.com/article/will-falling-oil-prices-kill-wind-and-solar-power/

There is huge progress in battery technology with energy densities improving by 60% in the last 15-20 years. Super capacitors have a great future.

Wouldn’t it be nice to keep our oil and gas to manufacture useful organic chemicals (plastic, pharmaceutical etc.) instead of just burning them.

Other sources of energy: ocean tides, ocean currents. There are places where the ocean goes up and down 5 meters twice a day. That must be a lot of energy to harvest. There is a strong, continuous current between the North and the South Islands in New Zealand. If that could be turned into electricity it could power the whole country. Geothermal energy should be better utilised. Again, we have plenty here in New Zealand.

I don’t think we should worry too much about interplanetary electric fields, solar-wind-induced electric potentials and other esoteric phenomena. The sun energy output, orbital forcing and greenhouse gases do a good job in explaining our climate.

Are you referring to weller2’s graph of birds killed? Then it’s funny you should complain about biased data, when this posting was in response to RACJ’s claim that wind turbines kill birds “by the thousands” (which is true) without any substantiated data on whether or not those “thousands” are significant. Why should RACJ’s implicit claim that this is a significant problem get a free pass when you doubt any data that does not agree with your favorite narrative? If you think weller2’s graph is in error, then why not point out the specific error (and substantiate it)?

Worry about what? My post has links to papers hosted by or archived on NASA, UCAR and other sites that offer additional information to that which has already been offered about Rossby/planetary waves. It may seem esoteric to you, but that may be because you are unfamiliar with it. It is not new information, I think one of those links had a 1985 paper. Of course if you would like to amplify your dismissal a bit, you know, provide some additional information which would highlight why these phenomena have no effect, I’m open to hear from you.

Nothing against additional information. Scientists will look at any obscure influences, including galactic cosmic rays, UV flux and solar wind variation, Rossby and Kelvin waves and their influence on climate.

What is your point? In your opinion, are any of those factors more critical to global climate change than man-made CO2? If yes, can you point us to any references?

Since the attribution question is still under scrutiny, I’d say everything is fair game. My point is what it always has been, that the current measurement uncertainties and low model fidelity leaves plenty of doubt on how the energy balance is calculated. If you would have read the “black part,” you would have understood that I was not suggesting that Rossby/planetary waves were responsible for climate change. If anything, they are an indication of how the atmosphere is behaving to various influences. The links provided contained some basic information on the phenomena, although they do not apparently contain the kind of information you are looking for. With the uncertainties mentioned earlier, if we are honest, I doubt any of us knows what to stuff in the “critical” bin. Best to keep an open mind on these things. I am still waiting to hear why you think it is acceptable to dismiss this or other effects, maybe a paper or journal entry?
