I have a question, I am not a really aware of the history of the popes but I know that the first pope was petrus but some said it was Silverstar , can I get an answer of why people saying that? Thanks

Pope Silverstar? Never heard that one before.

Christ appointed Peter the leader of his Church, as described in the Gospel.

Gospel of Matthew Chapter 16:
'15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,[a] the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock[c] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” ’

I think that they may have met Sylvester. And even then, Pope Sylvester I was not even Pope until the 300s. There were obviously Bishops of Rome before then. I actually got my niece a Douay Rheims Bible last Christmas, and since it was published in 2011 I think, it didn’t have Pope Francis in it, so I had to write it in. But, it has every Pope, from Peter, to Benedict XVI listed in the back. Well, now it has Pope Francis. Because I wrote it.

I’m going to speculate some here assuming that we are in fact talking about Pope Sylvester I. Sylvester was pope from 314 to 335. The Council of Nicaea occurred in 325 which was during Sylvester’s time as pope… Some Protestant groups deny that Peter was the first pope and that the papacy did not start until centuries later. In this instance what I’m thinking is that some Protestants are claiming that the papacy did not exist until the Council of Nicaea “created” it. Of course that is complete nonsense.

Again I am only speculating. I do not have all of the facts.

Blessings

Oh! This is probably a pseudo-argument by those who believe that Emperor Constantine founded the Catholic Church in the 300s. This is absolutely silly, as well as false.

However…those who claim this swear by the bible - which was produced by that same Constntinian Catholic Church!

Strange, huh?

I’m surprised I don’t think of that argument more.

This Coming Home Network YouTube video is 54 minutes long, but very clearly demonstrates that arguments against the Papacy are simply ludicrous. You might listen to it while eating, doing household chores or…

Dr. Marshner “was” a Lutheran scholar, but you know what happened when he looked into Church history.
