The OT and PT and LOTR films had music that stuck with me at first viewing. This didn’t and I have no desire to see it again. Just one of many reasons why it fails.

Tell us how you really feel, Pons. 😛 😉

TERRIBLE MOVIE.For those who haven’t seen it yet (or are late getting around to it):
  1. No. Definitely no. So not worth it.
  2. IV, V (Empire), and VII (Jedi) are all way better.
  3. Nearly the entire movie is CGI. Probably filmed in a studio back lot with green screen and someone’s laptop.
  4. New story.
  5. No, not good enough to take someone else. Definitely won’t be seeing it again.
  6. Wait for Netflix.
Seriously, J.J. Abrams is turning into the next M. Knight Shayamalan. (I think he’s there already – look at what he did to “Star Trek,” and now this?")

Ummm. Did we see the same movie? There was some CGI (can’t really have a movie without that anymore) but most of it was all practical effects. They definitely were not on a green screen for most of it. Those were real locations.

Unless you’re talking about the prequels…

I can count on one hand the scenes that I think were filmed on location with real people (or in costumes): (a.) the scene were Rey turns in her scraps to the alien pawnbroker (the one who wants to buy the droid carrying the map to Luke); (b.) the sequence where Finn helps Poe escape; (c.) the scene where Rey and Finn first make cute; (d.) the scene where Hans Solo returns to the cantina with Rey and Finn but without Chewbacca; and, (e.) the closing scene which I felt was 1-2 minutes TOO LONG. (I was so worried that it wouldn’t be the last scene – I wish it could have ended immediately, i.e., as soon as we see ******'s face. That would have been a decent ending.)

The movie I saw was the “Star Wars” equivalent of “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince,” only I don’t feel any anticipation for the upcoming Episode VIII - at all. To put that in perspective, I remembering crying about ******** in the HP movie. But I didn’t cry about ****** in this one, mainly because it’s still possible he could have survived or/and show up in flashbacks in Episode VIII.

Well hey now, don’t forget, there was also:
  1. The very first scene where Poe gets captured and the storm troopers burn the village. No CGI there. (Unless you count lasers)
  2. When Rey first finds BB-8. That alien was definitely a physical puppet and those were actual sand dunes. (I forget where they filmed it. Abu Dhabi I think)
  3. The market place where Finn and Rey first meet and have to escape. Lots of real explosions there. And the aliens were all people in costumes. And again that was shot on location.
4)The forest scenes. Those were shot in England I believe.

The only scenes where it was definitely green screen were the rathtar scene, the light saber fight and some of Starkiller base, I’m thinking of Han’s death in particular. But those were done tastefully and wouldn’t have worked without the green screen. Except the Rathtar scene. That was the weakest part for me.

Watch the prequels to see a movie filmed almost entirely on green screen with no physical set or props. You can see the difference.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of valid complaints about the movie (just like there are for all the Star Wars films) but…the special effects really aren’t one. They did a great job on it. It felt like a Star Wars movie should.

Nah, I see no way he could survive. If being stabbed in the chest didn’t do it, falling into the planet’s core and then having said planet blow up seems to make it impossible. He’s definitely gone.

Personally I found his death more emotional than Dumbledore’s. But that’s just me. Both scenes were done well.

Possible he survived!? Right… I suppose he will team up with qui gon jinn later… Perhaps with Elvis on the moon which of course would be cgi because the moon landing never happened right?😉

I don’t fully buy that criticism. I don’t see Rey as shining above the rest of the team in the new movie any more than Luke did in the original trilogy. 🤷

Yeah me neither. I mean, whenever you have a character with special abilities they’re going to stand out. The key is to not let the other characters be eclipsed by them. Which I thought this movie did a good job at avoiding. All of the characters were well handled and all were crucial to the plot. One didn’t feel more important than the other.

I found the way Finn and Rey were handled to be a refreshing change, personally. Typically a movie with a female protagonist goes out of its way to make the woman strong by bringing down the man. Usually by making him weak and/or a fool. This movie didn’t do that. Both Finn and Rey were strong (in different ways) and both needed each other. I liked that.

And so what if she does? 🤷 There have been countless heroines in history and literature. To suggest she can’t overshadow a male hero just because she’s a girl is a sexist argument, and I’m no radical feminist. Common sense dictates we shouldn’t make a fuss about such things. Sometimes the gentleman will be the star, sometimes the lady. It balances out.

Right. My point wasn’t that she didn’t shine above, but that it wasn’t any more so than Luke Skywalker did. I took the complaint as being that her place in the new movie was somehow inconsistent with Star Wars lore. But she’s the jedi of the new generation. If she doesn’t seem extraordinary in some way, then being a jedi doesn’t mean too much.

My overall impression of the new movie was that it felt more dark than I expected - especially Han and Leia’s marriage problems, and Luke’s tragedy with the new Jedi. However, there is a depth that comes along with that, and it might be a good thing dramatically.

As a Catholic, I’m surprised that Han and Leia - at least that we know - only had the one kid. And that Luke didn’t have any - that we know. Which brings us to an interesting question. Please forgive my bringing up the prequel trilogy, but it’s canon whether we like it or not. Here’s my question: If the Jedi are those with more midi-chlorians, and the Jedi trait is, what, recessive? - then in normal times there are enough children born with Jedi abilities that they can be taken from their families and raised to be Jedi, and be celibate. But if all the Jedi have been killed, wouldn’t Luke, being powerful in the Force, feel called to suspend the celibacy rule given the crisis? Obviously he couldn’t father enough children himself (unless he practiced polygamy!) but there are others, those students that Kylo Ren slaughtered.

Still, Luke - and Leia - are powerful, being Anakin/Vader’s offspring. So between them, if they each had from 3-5 children, there would be more strong Jedi to lead the other new Jedi to restore the Order.

I know, too many characters for scriptwriters to keep track of. Or maybe some of Luke’s dead students were his children or his nieces/nephews. 🤷

Personally, I think Rey is Han and Leia’s daughter. I believe they think she was killed in the Jedi Massacre, but Kylo Ren took her and hid her on Jakuu. That is why he seems to know her throughout the movie.

Why would the guy who killed the Jedi hide her on Jakku?

My brother and I think Luke is her father. And Luke would not know about the no attachments rule.

Wouldn’t Leia have recognized her force signature. Like how Vader sensed obi-wan?

Actually, I’m beginning to suspect that the whole thing was slapped together to get Star Wars fans to fork over big bucks to Disney.

Maybe. But the guy was with the troops in training at least since he was a kid. So that’s a lot of shared history to forget in a sudden moment of doubt.

But then like I’ve said. It’s just a show. I forgive him. He can shoot as many of his former teammates as he wants. And still be a good guy. No big deal. 😉
We did see that he cared about the others in the beginning when he stopped to check on a fallen stormtrooper. (I don’t think I had seen that before). But then once they wanted to kill the traitor he could kill them
(I always have to knd of turn off watching the good guys kill so easily in my braind
