The OT and PT and LOTR films had music that stuck with me at first viewing. This didn’t and I have no desire to see it again. Just one of many reasons why it fails.
Tell us how you really feel, Pons. The OT and PT and LOTR films had music that stuck with me at first viewing. This didn’t and I have no desire to see it again. Just one of many reasons why it fails.
Ummm. Did we see the same movie? There was some CGI (can’t really have a movie without that anymore) but most of it was all practical effects. They definitely were not on a green screen for most of it. Those were real locations.
- Nearly the entire movie is CGI. Probably filmed in a studio back lot with green screen and someone’s laptop.
I can count on one hand the scenes that I think were filmed on location with real people (or in costumes): (a.) the scene were Rey turns in her scraps to the alien pawnbroker (the one who wants to buy the droid carrying the map to Luke); (b.) the sequence where Finn helps Poe escape; (c.) the scene where Rey and Finn first make cute; (d.) the scene where Hans Solo returns to the cantina with Rey and Finn but without Chewbacca; and, (e.) the closing scene which I felt was 1-2 minutes TOO LONG. (I was so worried that it wouldn’t be the last scene – I wish it could have ended immediately, i.e., as soon as we see ******'s face. That would have been a decent ending.)Ummm. Unless you’re talking about the prequels…
Well hey now, don’t forget, there was also:I can count on one hand the scenes that I think were filmed on location with real people (or in costumes): (a.) the scene were Rey turns in her scraps to the alien pawnbroker (the one who wants to buy the droid carrying the map to Luke); (b.) the sequence where Finn helps Poe escape; (c.) the scene where Rey and Finn first make cute; (d.) the scene where Hans Solo returns to the cantina with Rey and Finn but without Chewbacca; and, (e.) the closing scene which I felt was 1-2 minutes TOO LONG. Nah, I see no way he could survive. If being stabbed in the chest didn’t do it, falling into the planet’s core and then having said planet blow up seems to make it impossible. He’s definitely gone. The movie I saw was the “Star Wars” equivalent of “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince,” only I don’t feel any anticipation for the upcoming Episode VIII - at all. To put that in perspective, I remembering crying about ******** in the HP movie. But I didn’t cry about ****** in this one, mainly because it’s still possible he could have survived or/and show up in flashbacks in Episode VIII.
Possible he survived!? Right… I suppose he will team up with qui gon jinn later… Perhaps with Elvis on the moon which of course would be cgi because the moon landing never happened right?I can count on one hand the scenes that I think were filmed on location with real people (or in costumes): (a.) the scene were Rey turns in her scraps to the alien pawnbroker (the one who wants to buy the droid carrying the map to Luke); (b.) the sequence where Finn helps Poe escape; (c.) the scene where Rey and Finn first make cute; (d.) the scene where Hans Solo returns to the cantina with Rey and Finn but without Chewbacca; and, (e.) the closing scene which I felt was 1-2 minutes TOO LONG. I don’t fully buy that criticism. I don’t see Rey as shining above the rest of the team in the new movie any more than Luke did in the original trilogy. This review of “The Force Awakens” is by the famous apologist Dr. Taylor Marshall. He loved the movie but had some concerns about the progressive messaging:

Yeah me neither. I mean, whenever you have a character with special abilities they’re going to stand out. The key is to not let the other characters be eclipsed by them. Which I thought this movie did a good job at avoiding. All of the characters were well handled and all were crucial to the plot. One didn’t feel more important than the other.I don’t fully buy that criticism. And so what if she does?I don’t fully buy that criticism. I don’t see Rey as shining above the rest of the team in the new movie any more than Luke did in the original trilogy.![]()
Right. My point wasn’t that she didn’t shine above, but that it wasn’t any more so than Luke Skywalker did. I took the complaint as being that her place in the new movie was somehow inconsistent with Star Wars lore. But she’s the jedi of the new generation. If she doesn’t seem extraordinary in some way, then being a jedi doesn’t mean too much. And so what if she does? There have been countless heroines in history and literature. To suggest she can’t overshadow a male hero just because she’s a girl is a sexist argument, and I’m no radical feminist. Common sense dictates we shouldn’t make a fuss about such things. Sometimes the gentleman will be the star, sometimes the lady. It balances out.
Why would the guy who killed the Jedi hide her on Jakku?Personally, I think Rey is Han and Leia’s daughter. I believe they think she was killed in the Jedi Massacre, but Kylo Ren took her and hid her on Jakuu. That is why he seems to know her throughout the movie.
We did see that he cared about the others in the beginning when he stopped to check on a fallen stormtrooper. (I don’t think I had seen that before). But then once they wanted to kill the traitor he could kill themMaybe. But the guy was with the troops in training at least since he was a kid. So that’s a lot of shared history to forget in a sudden moment of doubt.
But then like I’ve said. It’s just a show. I forgive him. He can shoot as many of his former teammates as he wants. And still be a good guy. No big deal.![]()
