Pope St. John Paul II’s pontificate generated a ton of priestly vocations and lots of men answered. They became the JP2 priests.

During Benedict XVI’s pontificate the JP2 priests became bishops. Loved the “West Coast Offensive” where leftist bishops were replaced by good men.

Then Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Cupich…who went ahead and praised Father “Gun Shop owners should die” Fleger for his non-violence movement and wanted to meet with him. Ohoh…that does not sound like a positive development in Chicago…

Especially after the archdiocese got slapped with a “public nuisance” lawsuit against it. But to be fair, Cupich’s predecessors could be blamed for that, though it’s curious that they chose now to file it.

How old were the victims?
What does that matter? They were boys of pre pubescent age in this particular parish between '78 and '93. The fellow fled to the UK at that time and died in '09. The Church sent apology letters to all the victims so there is no doubt about his guilt. All these issues are at the moment being addressed by an Australian Commission into institutional child abuse.

Their age matters to you or you would not have mentioned that they were young. So it allegedly happened decades ago. With the allegations almost always being many decades old, I think it is a sign that the actions taken by the Vatican since hearing about it have been effective. If I remember correctly, the Church scandal first made the news in 2002, and it surprised everyone.

Down here in South Carolina we are experiencing the “D… Yankee” affect. More moving in every day. Y’all come on down!

I read this on a news post this morning and it got me to thinking.

Has your parish seen an upward movement in those attending Mass and seeking further involvement because of Pope Francis?

I ask because it appears there does seem to be some increase in attendance and a firmer stance to claim ones faith due to words and actions of Pope Francis.
No

The attendance at our parish remains much the same and sad to say I do not see the dissident pew sitters among us, mainly those who are divorced/remarried and still receive communion, who openly advocate for women priests and state they do not believe Catholic teaching on artificial birth control any more eager to submit to the Church than they were before. In fact, some have said they are waiting for the Church to come out of the dark ages under the direction of Pope Francis. How very disappointed they will be in the end.

My home parish has been increasing in number over the last couple of years, though it began well before Francis became pope. I have yet to see many of these new families, however - 7am Mass is apparently too early for most people. 😃

At the diocese’s cathedral, where I’ve been going to Mass recently while I’m at school, the 9am service is usually only about half-full. Some days (like this past Palm Sunday) it’s full, but most Sundays not so much.

So I can’t say I’ve seen much of a Francis effect, either.
