Kind of random, but I’m all set for University with paperwork and financial stuff! Majoring in Chinese, Japanese, and Computer Science.
Lots of credit hours though lol. ;;

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I am actually doing so much better now and I am so thankful. I really hope you are too. Scruples is tough! But that is true what you said. If we commit a mortal sin, we KNOW that it is one. 🙂 helps in times of questioning

Posting to bump.

I started my internship 10 days ago or so. The store is so busy I have not really accomplished any of the established goals of the internship.

I wish I can share stories of what happens at work here, but I’m sure my chain monitors the Internet for anything that might be referring to them. Maybe a few years removed from now I can.

I was excited at first, but it hasn’t been really as engaging as I hoped. I didn’t really learn anything new today because I was stuck 10 hours at the register. We always make plans to do xyz with my manager, but I usually always wind up spending the whole time at the register. I have a feeling he is just going through sign off on all those activities at the end and say I did them. Which, would be fine and dandy if I didn’t also have a project my manager needs to assign me to do and present in front of people.

Oh, that’s not what you are there for. Unless they hire someone for the register, how will anything ever change? That’s not right.

Hope it improves for you soon

Friday was a bit better in that they gave me some time to work on the mandatory activities and online training we have been putting off.

My fellow students, have any of you made a list of goals to achieve during summer break?

I’ve started a craft I want to hopefully make a Pinterest account to show off, but it is hard finding the inspiration to finish it. I’m either tired from work or rather do something else.

I also want to be able to read at least two books this summer. I’m an incredibly slow reader and only managed to finish 3 last summer when I was only working on a part-time basis and didn’t really commute.

I have always felt I should have been more well-read, but finding the time is really difficult.

I feel your pain. My saccade length, which is the number of characters your eyes take in at a glance combined with the amount of time in milliseconds it takes you to process those characters, must be something like 4 in length, which is about half of what “normal,” and take 4 times longer to process!

Er… I read very slowly.

Most people can skip certain words while reading with their brains automatically filling in the missing words. I have to read every word.

Er… I read very slowly.

So, it’s all about eye-movement, speed, and focus. Here’s an interesting article on eye movement in reading: Eye movements - Scholarpedia.

Here’s a table from that page on saccade.
TaskTypical mean fixation duration (ms)Mean Saccade Size (degrees)
Silent Reading225-2502 (8-9 letter spaces)
Oral Reading275-3251.5 (6-7 letter spaces)
Scene Perception260-3304
Visual Search180-2753
Overall, I empathize with you and reading slowly. I am pretty sure I have a form of reading dis-fluency, though.

Thanks. I’ll read it on my day off Wednesday.

I find that I keep re-reading sentences until I am sure I caught every word.

Interestingly, I used to be able to tear through books until I got to high school. Maybe I’m stuck at a certain reading level.

Also, if I don’t know what a word means, I absolutely have to look it up. I cannot let it go. This is why I can’t read The Lord of the Rings: I found myself googling definitions at least twice a page. I pretty much stopped reading fiction because it uses more exotic vocabulary.

The Room Where It Happened books World News
Which depresses me immensely. I can honestly say that this forum’s community is one of the last places I’d go for genuine discussion or serious advice. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I joined, but I figured disagreements would typically result in people debating esoteric points about something, and not just outright attacking people while hiding behind the Church as an excuse.
For better or worse most of the sections (Usually World News, Social Justice, and Catholic Living, all of which regularly see activity on the front page) are glorified twitter threads where a significant amount of users hide behind their Catholicism while making flippant remarks at each other.

Idk, I figured a Catholic message board would strive to separate itself from a typical forum in terms of user behavior, but I guess that’s not the case.
