Must we be like Fundamentalists in this regard? Can’t we see the “Seal of God” and the “Mark of the Beast” as more figuratve, like how those “sealed in the forehead” are those who are protected from being harmed in their intellect, that is, from being led astray in doctrine, which is the seal that all faithful Catholics have possessed throughout her entire history, and that therefore the Trumpets are more a symbol of spiritual attacks on the Church’s doctrinal development, thereby symbolizing various intermediate religious conditions where individuals lack a certain degree of truth, but that only at the end, in the Mark of Beast, do we have full children of the devil, that is, apostates, persons who deny the totality of God’s truth and who are therefore their own god in their mind? Also before the six trumpets come to pass God will command his angels to seal his children as described in Revelation chapter 7. This will be a special grace for the people of that time:
And not only that, but what really is the purpose of knowing how individual nations will destroy one another or suffer natural disasters, when this is irrelevant to Public Rev. As far as i’m concerned, the real question we should be asking is, what will the fullness of the Gentiles consist in spiritually? Will all heresies be destoryed and the current minor apostasy healed? Or are the pessimistic Augustinians correct, with “there will always be significant evil”? Will Christians be reunited? Will Catholic doctrine be vindicated in history ever? Or will the world never go through an apostasy and tribulation that teaches them a lesson and be restored to faith?
But knowing, “Well first France will do this, then the Prussians that, and then there will be a meteorite, etc” is really questions that are irrelevant. That’s stuff that fundies obsess over, IMHO.
