Allegra, you only need to go to your local public elementary school…and look at the walls outside and inside the classroom…especially on Earth Day. you will see this philosophy in its “seed form”.

Then go over everything that is taught to your child with this philosophy in mind…and lo and behold you will see your child being taught an awfull lot about Native American culture (my children had several years of indoctrination plus research papers each year) and Green energy and sustainability of the Earth in science…and all that before they are 8 or 9 yrs old.
Actually, I go into a public elementary school every single day. On earth day, the children grow seedlings and learn about the basic anatomy of plants. 4th graders get a little tree to take home and plant. There is almost no study of native American culture whatsoever. Frankly, social studies in general has been really cut back, which I find appalling. Besides, if children were taught that Native Americans believed what you described, it would be a lie. Native Americans lived the way they did because they didn’t have he technology to live any differently, not because they had it but chose not to use it. And many Native American peoples were certainly not at peace and harmony. Some were murderously violent. The children are taught to recycle appropriate materials, mostly so the school can earn money back. Often we are able to balance the dumpster fees with the paper, glass, and aluminum. There is nothing sinful or wrong about trying to teach kids to do simple things that help avoid pollution. That is certainly a far cry from the philosophy you described. The only one of those films I’ve seen is Finding Nemo. I don’t recall anything from that movie that is in line with what you are describing. Are you talking about when they get caught in the fishing net? Are you trying to say that people don’t catch and eat fish? The story is supposed to be an adventure from the point of view of a fish. Is Tom and Jerry anti cat?

Did your kids like WALL-E…AVATAR…FINDING NEMO…HAPPY FEET…etc, etc…these are movies that are premised on this philosophy.
I can’t for the life of me figure out how finding nemo is relevant, but that’s besides the point. Philosophy =/= science and there’s a reason they call it “climate science” not “climate philosophy”.

“Fish are friends not food”…egalitarianism with Nature…was a loud message throughout the movie. The message was so pronounced that even the sharks tried not to be predators.

Accordingly, Man’s malicious domination of other species was also a background message.

Scientific fact…global temperatures have been COOLING for the last 15 years

Scientific fact…there is evidence that many scientists linked to public $$$ research grants have been manipulating data to show…
missing ice (one group deleted an area of Artic ice the size of California from their published research)…also…
to show warming (over a thousand leaked emails–Climategate–exposed manipulation of warming in scientific research)
to scare and worry the public for political and economic gain.

If people sit down and listen to Leftwing pronouncements on Faith…on the History Channel…then flip to the Discovery or Nature Channel and watch Leftwing pronouncements on “science”…its little wonder Christians are turning Leftist

…and Leftist Europe is almost devoid of Christians compared to the past.

New York Times columnist Ross Douthat…wrote a fine summary of this Green religion in his piece…“Heaven and Earth”…which actually serves as a brilliant expose on how your children are being indoctrinated with pantheism.

Once upon a time there was a lush garden that sprang up over a billion years. It was full of beauty, of evolving plants and animals living in perfect balance and harmony. Very recently, however, a clever creature evolved–mankind.
Man lived for a while in balance and equality with Nature. It was a time of great joy, with no sexual boundaries…
Kicking plenty of dead horses here. It was a 19th c. idea that held the “primal horde” hypothesis that humans started out in a “free love” state.

I attended a lecture by Dr. Owen Lovejoy, a paleo-anthropologist, several years ago. He gave a much more convincing hypothesis that humans (like many bird species) started out in exclusive male-female relationships and it was that bonding and family security of a two-parent family that helped us along the way to our successful evolution.

And if you don’t believe that, then there is the Bible with the Adam and Eve story. But in a way Lovejoy’s hypothesis is even more endearing, since Adam and Eve were the only people and only had each other (so no chance for cheating), but there was a larger group of earlier humans acc to the Lovejoy hypothesis, and still there was exclusive male-female bonding (marrigage).

Methinks people look at modern sexually promiscuous society and justify their own lechery by saying it was that way in the beginning.

I suggest going on a vegan diet (meat and dairy have lots of added hormones), going on long hikes, and taking cold showers 🙂

OR, focusing on reducing ones killing of people thru environmental harms and just saying “no” to the culture of death, which could help take one’s mind off of you know what 🙂

Maybe start by REDUCING, REUSING, and RECYLCING, then work your way up to going on alternative energy.

Prayer also helps, and listening to Pope Francis’s inaugural homily in which he calls on us to protect God’s creation, telling us we have been very naughty stewards of it and need to do a whole lot better.

Did your kids like WALL-E…AVATAR…FINDING NEMO…HAPPY FEET…etc, etc…these are movies that are premised on this philosophy.
I liked WALL-E, but thought the others were boring, and the Avatar people pretty bellicose for my taste – as bad as Americans even.

But actually it is a mistake to like WALL-E. It’s a robot.

I think one of our big problems is that we are interacting with (and giving our love and affections to) machines and other objects, and ignoring the people around us.

I plead guilty…and I’d better turn this danged machine off before hubby gets up and crashes it (he’s threatened to do that). 🙂

I know. Global temperatures go through cycles. They cool for a few years, and then warm for even more years. Looking at just the last 15 years is like looking at one piece of a puzzle and declaring that you know what the whole picture looks like. If, instead, you look at the last 8000 years of temperature data, and factor in all of the temperature cycles of the earth - ice ages, el nino (which brings temperature fluctuations, not just storms), the wobble of the earth’s axis, and many other things, we see a trend that is completely the opposite of cooling.
Scientific fact…there is evidence that many scientists linked to public $$$ research grants have been manipulating data to show…
No, there isn’t. Those leaked emails (leaked by a hacker paid by oil companies no less) were very mundane in nature, despite the ridiculous over exaggeration of the media.
missing ice (one group deleted an area of Artic ice the size of California from their published research)…also…
I would like to see this. Somehow I strongly suspect that you have misunderstood the situation.
to show warming (over a thousand leaked emails–Climategate–exposed manipulation of warming in scientific research)
See above
to scare and worry the public for political and economic gain.
Attributing motivations to people you’ve never met and know nothing about is kind of judgy, don’t you think?
If people sit down and listen to Leftwing pronouncements on Faith…on the History Channel…then flip to the Discovery or Nature Channel and watch Leftwing pronouncements on “science”…its little wonder Christians are turning Leftist
I don’t listen to any of that, partly because I don’t have cable, but also because I think they are ridiculous in other ways. I listen to the data, and the data don’t lie.
…and Leftist Europe is almost devoid of Christians compared to the past.
So a lack Christians affects global temperature?

In fact the “trick” to “hide the decline” referred to a method for splicing 2 datasets together, and the decline was in the less reliable tree-ring* proxy data, while the instrumental data actually showed an increase. There is absolutely nothing in those emails that disproves AGW, and probably in 99.9% of them (which we never hear about) there is much to prove AGW.

*I’ve speculated that trees, like some other plants (e.g. rice paddy in SE and S Asia), which normally do better in warmer times, may be stunted in really warm times, esp those warmer times associated with an enhanced greenhouse effect, esp if this is very rapid. What happens is such an effect (unlike warming due to orbit or wobble or increase in solar irradiance) leads to an even faster minimum diurnal (nighttime) warming, and plants, like people, need the cooler evenings after very hot days to recouperate – which also helps explain why over 30,000 people died during the European heatwave of 2003.

I don’t think they’ve been able to conclusively explain why trees are doing more poorly in a globally warming world, but that’s what I suspect might be the cause.

Of course, the anti-greens would like to see the end of trees, birds, bees, and progeny (those little brats), so it’s no skin off their noses.

Catholics, OTOH, who are pro-life, are into environmental healing, bec they don’t like killing people and their own progeny 🙂

But wait…today’s Green philosophy has developed a narrative of redemption where we can set things right again-where we can restore our lost purity with a Green, ethical return to Nature. Your penance…REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE is just the begining… You must also LOATH all hints of human domination…expunge all hierarchical thinking (especially religion) from your life! Deconstruct civilization back to the soil and live “free” again in harmony with Nature.

Now, that’s not too much to ask is it?
What is your source on this “Green philosophy”, especially the part about " LOATH all hints of human domination…expunge all hierarchical thinking (especially religion) from your life! Deconstruct civilization back to the soil …"???

Do see any value at all in stewardship?

Observation and extensive study

Ofcourse I value God’s creation…I just don’t think we should fall prey to a “worldly philosophy that has a form of godliness but denies the power thereof”
(Please read Romans 1)

Sorry Sarah…I didn’t intend to be rude. I would ask you to consider that a rusty Ford truck is just as natural as gopher hole…Humans are part of nature too.
“a rusty Ford truck is just as natural as gopher hole”

Really? You are SERiously stretching the definition of “natural” here, and, no, it won’t go. The distinction between “natural” and “artificial” is pretty clear, and we don’t use words for nothing.

Why is a gopher hole and a person hole different? Both manipulate the environment.

Man lived for a while in balance and equality with Nature. It was a time of great joy, with no sexual boundaries and everyone shared everything equally.
Then, one day, the first “bad” man stopped sharing. He entertained the first hierarchical ideals of inequality when he began to hunt for animal meat and then stopped sharing his food, his sex partner and his shelter. Soon enough, he was hording food, took a “wife” for himself only and built a private “family” shelter…all of which he now had to defend
Code:
Thus, war and hatred and greed and manipulation were born. Humanity had taken a "wrong turn" or, you might say, fell from Nature's good graces (similar to Adam and Eve in the Garden) because of the advent of hierarchical thinking. And, what we now refer to as "civilization".
But wait…today’s Green philosophy has developed a narrative of redemption where we can set things right again-where we can restore our lost purity with a Green, ethical return to Nature. That much, is true, and, an accurate representation of Green philosophy. The rest of what you wrote is pretty weird.

I hope you don’t have some kind of a moral objection to reducing, reusing, and recycling. Well, if you did, it wouldn’t be moral. Those things are moral, and truly part of the Green philosophy. And no, it doesn’t end there — that is just the beginning.

Ultimately, we should not pollute. We should eliminate the burning of fossil fuels. Maybe for NASCAR, we could make the sole exception, but as a rule, we ought to be working, very hard, on developing clean and green sources of energy. Wind and solar power, specifically, do not pollute at all. Hydrogen fuel cells combine hydrogen with oxygen to produce water. We could obtain the hydrogen from electrolysis of water using electricity generated by wind and solar, and still run our cars, but with a cycle that goes from water to water.

We should NEVER be allowed to use the excuse, “this is a passing world, soon Jesus will return anyway,” to avoid our responsibility to care for this sole planet we have been given.

The Catholic Church should LEAD the “green revolution,” not fight it.

Revelation 18:15
Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet. There were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world now belongs to our Lord and to his Anointed, and he will reign forever and ever.”
16
The twenty-four elders who sat on their thrones before God prostrated themselves and worshiped God
17
and said: “We give thanks to you, Lord God almighty, who are and who were. For you have assumed your great power and have established your reign.
18
The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for the dead to be judged, and to recompense your servants, the prophets, and the holy ones and those who fear your name, the small and the great alike, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

You see? Those who destroy the earth shall themselves be destroyed by God, when the time comes.

Does “artificial” come from outside of nature?

What we do is natural…to limit our activity as unnatural and “artificial” and to elevate the gopher’s scratching to a higher and purer state is…to worship Nature and flip what God intended.

Why is a gopher hole and a person hole different? Both manipulate the environment.
Gophers have no technology. If human beings lived in caves or trees, that would be natural. “Artificial” specifically means, made by human art.

Natural and artificial are antonyms.

No, no one is worshiping a gopher-god. But a gopher-hole is natural, and a Ford truck, rusty or brand new, is artificial, i.e. not natural. Artificial comes from man. Man is fallen, in case you didn’t get the memo. Not gophers. The gopher race did not disobey God; the human race did that.

“Cursed be the ground because of you”…sounds like the gopher will die too.
