Well, you also realize that porn, debauchery, prostitution, false religions, gambling, etc. existed LONG before New Orleans or Las Vegas?

Now that New Orleans may be gone, if Las Vegas is destroyed by an earthquake, will the world be freed from those problems?

God brought down the number because of Abraham was able to plea for God’s stay of hand under certain conditions. Devout people who pray to God for His mercy can divert His Justice upon the earth.

Proof of God not evolving in the Bible: look at the Book of Revelation and you will find both the God of Justice and the God of Mercy.

God showed us compassion by sending His Son to die a horrible death so that our sins may be forgiven. God never evolved. It was because of the death and resurrection of Jesus why the change happened and the relationship between God and man and woman was restored. This does not change that God is a God of Justice and that Justice may appear to be in the form of Wrath, but it is always a Just Wrath.

The following is a private revelation, it is not necessary for an individual Catholic to accept private revelations that are approved of by the Church. However, we have “Divine Mercy Sunday” because of these private revelations. Pope John Paul II was one of the greatest advocates of this devotional.

What I don’t like are many “Christians” who desire God’s Justice for sinners, when they must (if they are to call themselves Christians) beg for forgiveness and mercy. It is Satan who tries to bring man and woman to sin (although we do just fine without him) and it is Satan who does not want people to turn to God for mercy. He wants them to remain separated from God.

Christians must expose sin for what it is, love and pray for the sinner, that they may convert and find salvation in God. Too often “Christians” seem to take delight in the Justice of God. 😦 IMHO, this sin is far worse than the sin of Lot’s wife. She just looked. They want to look and enjoy watching sinners suffer. I’ll imitate the women of Jerusalem during Good Friday.

Besides that, God actually evolves in the Bible, from a vengeful God who destroyed S&G and planned to destroy Ninevah, to a God who shows compassion. God gets it; that people deserve a chance to repent their sins rather than just pay for them through suffering* and death. *That’s what the Ten Commandments are about and that’s what Jesus’ death is about. Redemption.

God evolving?
 
No, it was simple greed, ignorance and stupidity.
  1. A lot of construction was done in the entire area because money could be made there. When money and common sense battle, money wins.
  2. Many who lived in the region were ignorant of the danger of living below sea level protected by man-made levees, etc. Dams, levees and dikes are like hard drives. It is not if they collapse, it is when.
  3. Even those who knew the danger stupidly ignored it. A boy scout knows better than to pitch camp in a spot lower that a stream flowing by.
Hurricane happen along the gulf coast all the time. What American of legal age with normal intelligence doesn’t know that? This was just waiting to happen - no divine retribution there. Just nature acting natural.
 
Can anyone tell if natural disasters have been on the rise as of late say in the last century till now?

From what I’ve heard, the answer is “no” (I even saw a television documentary on this exact topic). If I have time today, I’ll see if I can find some links. We have more media coverage than we had a century ago, so we’re given more information on the disasters (and faster). Before there was any such thing as radio and television, people not in the affected areas were blissfully unaware of natural disasters. And the more people we have living in coastal areas, the more people there are to be affected by a hurricane.

Sorry for the delay – here’s a link for data on hurricanes; I could probably find similar links for other types of disasters. It’s from the NOAA Hurricane Center web site.

I graphed the data for total hurricanes making landfall in the United States; that looks like this:



The x-axis has decades – “1851-1860”, “1861-1870”, etc. The last point is “2001-2004”; this decade isn’t finished, obviously. It doesn’t look like an overall increase to me. 🙂
