You have this vision of the Church as this angry group that corners and beats up unruly members.
Nah, more like a vision of an angry group that would force me to live my life by their codes. As you’ve proven by the dialog which is to come.
During the 1960s, a man would appear on television to inform viewers that the Standards and Practices Department reviewed all programming to make certain it was suitable for the entire family.
Wow, that sounds downright taliban like. See what you’re endorsing.
There were a few clunkers but they did not show viagra ads - E V E R.
Wow. Now you object to viagra ads. Is it the ads themselves, or the very existence of viagra in the first place that holds the bulk of your objection? (As a humorous side note, I almost wrote ‘erection’ instead of ‘objection’ Freudian slip, I suppose.)
Indeed.
Close all Adult Bookstores.
Blatantly unconstitutional. Freedom of the press is guaranteed by the constitution. Are you advocating eliminating that freedom?
Sex toys? What the heck is the big deal about sex toys anyway?
I dunno, you tell me, after all, you’re the one advocating banning them. What IS the big deal? Don’t want to use them, don’t, why must your wishes tell those who do that they cannot?
Close all strip clubs.
Close all topless bars.
So consenting adults who wish to patronize a strip club and pay consenting adults who wish to strip for money should not have that right? Why not? Assuming you are not forced to patronize or work their against your wishes, what standing do you have to insist that those who wish to do so cannot?
No porn on cable or satellite TV or radio.
Again, blatantly unconstitutional. And if you are willing to sacrifice those constitutional protections, and it seems you are, who gets to decide?
Shut down all so-called “phone sex” lines.
There’s still phone sex lines? I would think in light of streaming video, that would have gone away, but okay. Again, what standing do you have to ban it? How are you harmed. If I wish to pay a lawyer $500/hour to talk to me about this or that legal matter, how is that any different than paying $25/hour to talk dirty to me?
Ban all “file sharing” sites from the internet.
Wow, you really are quite the budding tyrant. Now we can’t even share files. The other day, I needed to get some software to install on my work computer to prepare me to demo our new products to customers. Guess we can’t have that, now, can we? After all, we used a file sharing site to make it happen, as they were way too big to email.
Ban all obscene programming anywhere on any medium, including hand-held devices.
Well, first I suspect your definition of obscene and the actual legal one are quite different. That said, you would make it a crime for my wife to photograph herself nude and email it to me?
Tyrant.
Ban all swinger sites and sex clubs.
Wow.
I say again, wow.
Now you’re hitting close to the vest, Ed, as I am a swinger and my wife and I visit sex clubs frequently. Mind you, everyone involved is a consenting adult, there of their own free will. Do you seriously believe that the fact that you do not wish to participate means that myself and others who do should be prohibited from doing so?? On what grounds? Who the heck are you to tell us that we can’t do something that we enjoy?
Increase fines and prison time for prostitution.
Why should it be illegal to sell something that it’s perfectly legal to give away?
Viagra and similar products to be sold by perscription only.
This one you already got, as they are. That said, I don’t know why they should be. Were aspirin invented today, it would be by prescription only. I don’t understand why we should require permission to put substances into our body rather than at our own discretion, rather than the discretion of a medical flunky.
Birth control pills for the regulation of menstrual cycle only.
Tyrant.
So you want people to have unwanted pregnancies? Or abortions?
Ah. Now, not only do you want unwanted pregnancies, apparently you want people infected with STD’s. Come on, Ed, tell the truth, you really do think STD’s are punishments from God for inappropriate behavior, dontcha?
Thong ban on public beaches.
Wow. I guess that means nude beaches aren’t even up for discussion, huh? What about people who WANT to go to nude beaches, they just SOL?
All in all, I can’t say that your comments don’t really surprise me, but they do scare me. For you are serious about what you’ve said, and you think it’s a reasonable thing to demand that people are restricted in consensual private behavior based on how you think people should live, and to be frank, that makes you dangerous. For you would, if only you could, limit the freedom of your fellow man based merely on the fact that you said so, and despite the fact that you yourself are not affected by the acts you would restrict.
The only difference between you and Saddam Hussein or Adolf Hitler is that they had power you lack. Thank God you lack it, for you are as dangerous to freedom as they were.
