“Gay” isn’t an intrinsically negative term.
Well, it’s also not an intrinsically positive term. That’s one of the many points of my post you seem not to understand. 🙂

The entire point of my post was the context of words. Intrinsic value is one thing; extrinsic & contextual values provide quite different meanings. And “gay” is being imbedded within contexts, which illumine a number of negative aspects.

So by that you mean that it depends on the way it’s being used then, correct?

I’ve always known gay to be a neutral term. Simply descriptive.

Sexual attraction. You know very well what that definition was stating. The fact is that a thief is only a thief when he steals by definition, but BY DEFINITION someone is ‘gay’ or a ‘homosexual’ simply when they are attracted to someone of the same-sex. Stop trying to pervert the meaning of words to fit your anti-gay agenda. :tsktsk:
A person is only gay by definition when they commit the act of gay sex.

If they never act on it, they are not gay, despite the feelings they have.

Stop trying to distort the definition to push your pro-gay agenda (we could do this all day).

No. Whether or not someone is gay is defined by their desires and sexual attractions, not their actions. Definitions from the Oxford English Dictionary:

Definition of gay:
adjective (gayer, gayest)
  1. (of a person, especially a man) homosexual.
relating to or used by homosexuals: a gay bar

oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/gay

Definition of homosexual:
adjective

sexually attracted to people of one’s own sex.

involving or characterized by sexual attraction between people of the same sex: homosexual desire

No, the slang word for heterosexual is straight.

The slang word for homosexual is gay.

Neither gay nor straight define a lifestyle.
This is what society teaches, Debora.

As Catholics, our sins are not who we are as humans and as people. Our sins are not our identities.

So you are saying all people who have had the urge to steal are thieves, by definition?

That all heterosexuals tempted to have sex outside of marriage yet do not act on it, are adulterers and fornicators?

That all people whove been angered are murderers, etc?

So by that you mean that it depends on the way it’s being used then, correct?

I agree but as a time traveler from the 1950’s, who had a “gay ol’ time” watching the Flintstones, and would don “gay apparel”, I prefer to hold on to that definition. And I find “homosexual” is universally understood to mean homosexual.

Heterosexual men in prison partake in homosexual activity/rape, but never proclaimed tgat they are gay and dont live the lifestyle either. Many of them have wives and children outside of prison and dont engage in homosexual activity when they are released. They are heterosexuals who participated in homosexual activity. They are not Gay.

No, because the definition of a thief and a homosexual are different.

By definition, a thief is someone who steals. By definition, a homosexual is someone who is attracted to the same sex.

Why is that so hard to understand?

As for your statement about prisons, when you claimed there are men who have gay sex but are not gay, you admitted that the definition of gay isn’t someone who has gay sex.

I don’t believe that. As you are a Conservative Catholic, I don’t believe you would tell someone you are feeling gay, or that you are a gay person. I think you know full well the problem that would cause.

The fact is that you can’t really pick and choose from language. I can’t decide I’d much rather call cars trees, for example. Words have assigned definitions, and we have to stick to them or risk confusion.

Stephen, that was simply bad wording. What I should have said was that there are benefits that mean that marriage was NEVER just about raising children.
Oh really - your claim is in the beginning it was just about sex and hey maybe there is a procreation in the process? What would have happened if the first children were ignored or eaten?

No, because the definition of a thief and a homosexual are different.

By definition, a thief is someone who steals. By definition, a homosexual is someone who is attracted to the same sex.

Yes and by associating themself with that lifestyle and is active in it. A person who has stoleb but has changed their ways, is no longer a thief. A person who actively steals and is currently a career criminal, is a thief. Same applies to people with homosexual feelings.

You mean like marriage? 😃

Being gay/homosexual is not a sin.

The sin is only if you act on it.
Having homosexual feelings isnt a sin.

Being gay (living the lifestyle, actively participating in homosexual acts) is a sin.

Just as:

Having heterosexual feelings and urges to have sex is not a sin.

Being an adulterer (living the lifestyle, actively having sex outside of marriage) is a sin.

No - it is properly called same sex attraction. Homosexuals are trying to play the word game, just like the abortionists did when they started calling it pro-choice.

Sorry, but when you look into a dictionary that’s clearly not true. 🤷

You are right about thiefs, but not about homosexuals. The reason? They both have different definitions. By your logic, someone is not heterosexual until they have sex with someone of the opposite sex, but a look in a dictionary clearly tells us that is wrong. A heterosexual is someone who is attracted to members of the opposite sex, regardless of whether they act on this attraction or not. A homosexual is the same, but with the same sex.

A chaste same sex attracted person has no reason to declare themselves to anyone. It is a personal struggle which can remain private, just like other disordered desires.
