And when he had attained enlightenment he returned and enrolled both in the Buddhist order where both attained nirvana./QUOTE]
He couldn’t know whether he would succeed or not when he first abandon his wife and child. How many years did it took? Did he keep his wife and child up to date all the years when he was out doing his own thing? Even after achieving his enlightenment, he didn’t want to teach initially. The teaching was an afterthought or fallen to persuasion.
Is a father who leaves his wife and child to work and make his fortune abroad, and then returns with his new fortune to give great gifts to his family being selfish?

It is strange that the first step to enlightenment was to abandon wife and child. An act of pure selfishness. Then run away from all responsibilities.
Didn’t the apostles do that?
I mean how did Zebedee feel about his kids running off?

If I were an atheist, what would be your answer? Instead of answering the question, your response is to attack the religion of the questioner. If you don’t have an answer, it would be intellectually honest to admit it. There is no dishonour in not knowing all the answers. I don’t know all the answers too.

Zebedee was a relatively successful fisherman with hired help. Mark1:20. The 10 commandments required the children to honour the parents. You did not make a case whether these 2 sons ran off against the father’s wishes. It could be with the blessings of the parents. In Mat 20:20-21, their mother asked Jesus for permission for the sons to sit at the right/left hand of Jesus in his new kingdom. The mother certainly have something in mind for her children because she mistakenly thought Jesus was going to establish an earthly kingdom and she want her children to occupy important positions. You could tell following Jesus received their parents support.

In 1 Cor 9:5, the womenfolk accompanies their husbands (apostles) on their travels, ministering and supporting them in their daily needs. They were not abandoned.
