Addendum to Raphael:
A person does not really belong to a church if he or she does not believe what it teaches. If I believed all the garbage I hear from Jimmy Swaggart, I would join his church. If I did not believe Jesus is the Messiah-Christ promised by God, I would convert to Judaism.
I now believe the Orthodox Christian Church is the true church because it contains what I feel the Holy Spirit has taught me over the years. If you truly believe all of the RCC teachings then you should remain a member of the RCC.
Why should anyone stay in a church if he or she cannot believe what that church believes?
I feel my beliefs are in accordance with the New Testament, particularly with the teachings and examples of Jesus. You may read the New Testament and arrive at totally different conclusions. That’s one reason why there are so many different Christian churches and denominations. Many Christian churches accept abortion for other reasons. You should do an online search as I did; you might be very surprised.
Just because the RCC says “Outside of the RCC there is no salvation,” does not make it true. I can’t believe some of the anti-catholic things I’ve read on the web. I mean, they really shock me, that is, some of the lies that are told about the RCC. Even I don’t believe all the garbage on these kinds of websites.
My point is, not everyone believes as you do. And you have every right to believe what you want. Oddly enough, every Christian church I know of can find scripture that supposedly supports its belief that it is the only true church of God. Even the Mormons believe theirs is the only true church.
Like you, I have to follow what I believe God has taught me over the years. I have to go where I believe He wants me to be. And I have done so.
Fifty-eight years of Catholicism has given me the basics: the Trinity, the Redemption by Jesus, the Eucharist. I am grateful for all of these things. But my heart, soul and spirit tell me that I simply cannot believe the other subjects we have discussed in this thread. I simply do not believe them and never have believed them.
I don’t reject Catholicism because Orthodoxy rejects some of their doctrines; I reject Catholicism because I honestly believe that many of its teachings are flat-out wrong.
I have no malice for you or anyone else who believes as you do. I just believe you have been misled, and I post to share my beliefs with anyone who is willing to search their own soul and spirit and be truly honest with themselves about what they do and do not believe.
My closest friend, now that my wife has passed away, is a southern Baptist. Well, living in Florida as I do, I’m surrounded by them. But I believe they are also misled. That does not stop me from loving my best friend. We just don’t discuss religion, or politics for that matter (he’s a rep and I’m a dem). Our friendship is built upon 30 years of accepting and loving each other for who we are. He’s a good man, as also am I.
But if you are interested, you might enjoy reading the Orthodox website which explains all of Orthodox theology. It’s

Bless ya.
