Haha! I’ve had to think more and think harder and reflect and ponder and research and read and pray and meditate and ask questions and seek answers and think think think more since becoming Catholic (or even since inquiring about becoming Catholic) than at any other time of my fairly intellectual life. I venture to say that if one cannot think for himself, it will be almost impossible for one to even be Catholic, much less understand Catholicism.

I’ve never found any other teachings that can compare with Catholicism for truth, eloquence and sheer beauty. And I’ve searched through a lot of religions and philosophies, lemme tell ya. Nothing else even comes close. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Catholicism is what you want if you want something that will challenge, engage and satisfy your intellect.

If one can’t think for himself, he’d do better with the non-religion of the recent new breed of atheists wherein one can believe anything one wants to believe no matter how absurd or ridiculous it may be.

When this drive for bonding is achieved, the child will have a healthy attachment with his or her same-sex parent and secure gender identity will ensue. Therefore, in this model, these gender non-conforming character traits may represent underlying genetically (genotype) driven characteristics that result in the behavioral phenotype that invokes the reparative drive. While heredity may play some role, it has not been discovered as fact yet. Scientific studies have never discovered a “gay” gene or one that causes homosexuality. There may also be biologic factors or anomalies that occur in the womb, like overexpose to female hormones if male, etc.

Does Cohen’s study claim absolute scientific evidence to the fact of heredity or a “gay” gene?

Yes, we have solutions and choices.

Yes. The Bible tells us: With wisdom get understanding. This issue is similar in a way to what was said by the abortion supporters before it was legalized: please, please, please let us do this. The Church offers us our best choices: heterosexual marriage or chastity.

How intelligent and ‘advanced’ as a people can we be if we cannot control our sexual desires? There needs to be a set of absolute truths for individuals, families and societies. Otherwise, there is anarchy.

Nothing worth doing is easy but we must not lose heart.

Is it vibrational physics that makes Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 so magnificent?
If we wanted to be contentious, we could argue that the chemistry of paint and vibrational physics adds something to the portrait and the symphony. But most of us would say they don’t have much to do with it.
Mainstream geneticists react in much the same way when people try to argue human behavior - particularly, for the purposes of this book, homosexual behavior - is dictated by genes. For the geneticists the argument was settled 30 years ago. Almost every behaviour is both nature and nurture. Rather frustrated, geneticists mutter to themselves, “What are these activists doing, trying to turn back the clock and argue homosexuality is genetic?!”

Let’s look at one of the of the most direct results of mutation on human behavior known so far and examine the implications. It’s a rare condition associated with aggression, in a study of Dutch men,7 and is probably an example of the maximum genetic contribution to a behavior you are likely to see. People without the condition have an enzyme in their bodies called monoamine oxidase A, which performs a simple oxidation of basic compounds called amines. Dutch men with the condition completely lack the active
enzyme, because a genetic mutation has made a minor change to one of the amino acids making up the enzyme. The defective gene is passed on by the mother and also creates borderline mental retardation.
Alleged behavioral symptoms include aggression, arson, attempted rape, and exhibitionism, behaviors that were described as “disturbed regulation of impulsive aggression.” The aggressive behavior in the Dutch men varied greatly over time and in type, and - according to the authors - could have been linked to levels of fear, anger, and frustration, possibly related to the borderline mental retardation that is part of the syndrome. Experiments with drugs to specifically inhibit the production of this enzyme in depressed, otherwise normal adults who usually produce it, raised levels of aggression
(“mania” or “hypomania” ) in 15% of subjects, but this occurred in half those receiving a placebo also.8 So we have to say although lack of this enzyme created a tendency, it was not very strong. Also, the condition arising from the mutation was easily controllable: after counselling the Dutch men were able to lead virtually normal lives and their antisocial behavior almost disappeared. The variation in behavior, the doubtful change in aggression levels in normal adults despite inhibition of the enzyme, and changes after counselling
disprove a genetically dictated aggression.

So - what are we saying?
• We are saying that one of the most closely genetically- linked human behaviors known to science is certainly not determined.
• We are saying that even if behaviors are linked (not dictated by, but linked) to genes, environmental interventions (e.g., diet, counseling) can greatly modify or even eliminate the behavior (see chapter ten).
As Plomin remarks, "If a certain form of psychopathology should be caused primarily by genes it might be mistakenly assumed that psychotherapy and other environmental
intervention would be useless. This pessimistic point of view is simply wrong."6
But, we are also saying, specifically, that SSA is very unlikely to be caused by mutation in a single gene.
Why not? Because the occurrence of homosexuality is too high (see Figure 2, data taken from PEDINFO on the Internet at w3.lhl.uab.edu in 1999).

That is, in each case most conditions caused by mutations,even if they affect only single genes, cause defects in only a very small proportion of the general population: about 0.025 percent of the population or less. In total, conditions caused by genetic mutation are found in about only 1 percent of the population.’,9 Homosexuality,
with its total occurrence (2.2 percent), does not fit into the category of genetic diseases
because its incidence is 90 times too high A similar graph (Figure 3) for abnormalities of development in the womb not traceable to specific genetic defects19(such as cleft palate), shows the occurrence of SSA is 5 x or more higher than any individual occurrence of abnormality, and hence very unlikely to be some random developmental disorder before birth.
Left handedness is often compared with homosexuality. Left handedness, similarly, is far too common at about 10% occurrence in the population to be a developmental disorder. Also similarly, there is believed to be a large random factor in its development. One crucial difference is that the region of DNA involved in lefthandedness is now known, but no genes have been identified clearly for homosexuality (see Chapter 9).
SSA fits much more naturally into the category of psychological disturbances and disorders, which are common by comparison (see Figure 4).10 This does not prove SSA itself is a disorder. It merely shows that it is in the realm of traits which are less and less “genetic” and physical, and more and more “psychological”.

Thank you, Carla, that was VERY informative. The world should know about this but especially the gay community since they use it as part of their argument for gay marriage. They are so deceived and defensive about it, if only they knew the Truth and the scientific evidence behind these facts. That’s great. Glad you got scientific with us! 🙂

Even though they make it out to be a big joke with Dr. Cohen participating, he does explain (somewhat) what the therapy entails, but it’s not “change” therapy or someone trying to change your mannerisms or telling you to think heterosexual. It’s therapy focused on emotional healing from past hurts in your life that may be related to the reason for one’s homosexual feelings.

It’s worth watching if you want to familiarize yourself somewhat with the process.
