It says on their site that it’s a parody. Direct quote:

“The Landover Baptist Church is a complete work of fiction. It is a satire/parody.”

also:

“The Landover Baptist Church website is not intended to be viewed by minors or anyone under the age of 18.”

And they’re greedy. Don’t send them anything, they claim that it will become their property in perpetuity. You don’t need to give them any ammo.
Yup,i remembered i read that when i subscribed to the site:)

Mrs Betty Bowers isn’t as funny as she used to be - she really knew how to put you cathylicks in your (very, very hot) place. 🙂

The site even specifies that it is a joke. Just how obviously humorous does a satire like that, or any other joke, have to be, before people realise that a piece of humour is…a piece of humour ? What is the problem - is reading comprehension not taught in U.S. schools ?

For me, the issue is not so much “How can anyone not realize that it’s a parody?” but rather “If you thought it was a serious site, then why the hell would you want to participate on it?”

Or to take a different example, there was a discussion thread recently that asked Protestants: If you believe that you’re saved, and you believe in ‘Once saved always saved’, then why don’t you kill yourself? (That’s a paraphrase.) Were internet-user offended by this thread? I’m quite sure that they were; and yet the thread generated 143 replies, and has been viewed more than 1500 times.

Why do we support things we find offensive? I’m reminded of the verse about people looking for teachers who will “tickle their ears” (cf. 2 Timothy 4:3). 😦
🤷

Why on earth? Why are you going back there?

Do you really think this is healthy?

Edwin
I just can’t see how those people step over my faith.
Like i said,i do not hate them.they are just funny.
and i’m worried about the people who go there and are missleaded.i hope my posts help them…

the Holy Spirit is everywhere after all.

BTW, are you posting there as “Mihaela” or some other name? If the latter, I’d be curious what name, so as to find some threads that you’re on over there – but, of course, if you prefer not to say I quite understand.

It would be interesting to go on there just to try to let-the-cat-out-of-the-bag about the fact that it’s a parody site. Although I suspect that before long, they’d just ban you and then delete your posts.

Snort My sweetie asked me the same thing the other day.

Going back to the earlier question of whether it’s “obviously satire” or not … For those of us who know that “Landover” is phony, it can seem a little bizarre that anyone is taken in by it. But consider the case of the post, a few months ago on CAF, that said “He is a child of Satan’s I will pray for his eternal damnation”. (See also the discussion here.)

Don’t confuse “Landover Baptist Church” with the very real “Landmark Baptist” movement.
Landmark Baptists hold that the NT model for the church is only the local and visible congregation and that it violates NT principles to speak of a universal, spiritual church. They also believe that Communion should be restricted to members of the local assembly and that baptism is valid only when administered in a properly constituted local Baptist congregation. They also believe that a historic “Baptist succession” may be traced from John the Baptist to modern Baptist churches in which believer’s baptism and Landmark principles have prevailed.

As many others have said, the Landover Baptist Church is not real. I thought it was real for awhile, and I was seriously troubled knowing that there are Christians only one state over (I live in Nebraska) from where I live that actually believe what they had written on the site.

it is true, the landover baptist website is a parody.but is scandalising people.both Christians and non-Christians.someone should ban that stupid website.
Free speech is worth keeping. People say sites like this one should be banned too.

The way to defend ones faith against that kind of thing is to ignore it for the fruitless rubbish that it is and live your faith for Christ.
