At birth, Brother André was so weak and sickly that his parents had the newborn baptized immediately, fearing he wouldn’t survive till morning. He lived to the venerable age of 91. His heart, which ceased beating just past midnight on Jan. 6, 1937, is on display in a reliquary at St. Joseph’s Oratory, a rather macabre beacon to pilgrims who still come by the millions in search of comfort, spirituality and miracles, many ascending the basilica’s 283 steps on their knees.

I hate it when the secular press [Toronto Star in this case] is snarky-and it usually gets things wrong about the Church, anyway.

Why don’t they have any writers (?) who can at least get the facts straight?

Sheesh…this is supposed to be a joyful event, not one to take potshots! 😦 :mad:

Yes, the Toronto Star article is very disappointing. Sadly, the columnist has also published two related articles. One is somewhat better in tone (although still needlessly rude) and the other is much worse.

Fortunately, there are better articles out there.
