**The Lords Prayer is the most all-embracing Prayer we have. It invokes ALL aspects of our relation to God.

Jesus asked us not to make too many words when speaking to God, as God knows what we want to say, before we say it, and He taught us how to pray.

The shortest prayer by the way – and the prayer we ought to pray at least 10 times a day is LORD HELP ME

This is what St.Peter yelled, when out of exitement to see the Lord, jumped of the boat and hurried towards Jesus. Wouldn’t we do so too?! Peter never thought of the fact he couldn’t swim. He saw the Lord walking on water and he jumped up and ran towards Him in overwhelming joy.

Suddenly St. Peter was aware – oh, I walk on water, that can’t be, I can’t swim. He doubted the whole situation and it was this doubt, that suddenly let St.Peter sink and he was highly alarmed and he struggled in his panic he screamed OH MY LORD HELP ME.
God help me, be our daily prayer.

And what did Jesus do? No, Jesus did not as we might have done, say “you doubted – now see how you get along”.

No! Jesus bent down at St. Peter, reached Peter His Hand and pulled this man up to Him.
So – let’s really trust God and not for a second doubt. Whenever doubts might be cast upon us by the hell and it’s legions, lets call out LORD HELP ME – and He will bend down and pull us up to him in grace!

**The prayer Our Father, or Pater noster, or Lords Prayer, begins with: Our Father, who art in this heavens…
This one sentence already includes all we have to know and all we, when praying, reaffirm and promise God:
Firstly: We tell God, that we call Him our Father, as we are allowed to call God by Jesus.
Secondly: We tell God that we believe in Him as our loving father.
And last but very important: We assure our believe, that God is in heaven, which is His Kingdom and we know from Jesus Christ in John 14,2, that He went there to arrange our housing and living there.

If we know all this and live in this believe which is nothing but the full reality and truth – what could happen to us?! The word >GOD IS< includes everything and we don’t need more as:
…We are allowed to address God as our father. No emperor in this world ever allowed that to his subjects, and what a bunch of nothingness is an emperor compared to God.
Let us do so and call God OUR FATHER in overwhelming pleasures, for we will see Him as sure as we see and feel and live ourselves.

**Jesus often told us (e.g. in Joh 16:23) my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. So lets ask God with all the apprehension of our heart to live in God now and in time with God in His Kingdom.

A friend said: Ok then, let’s ask to win the lottery jackpot. This of course would be a terribly foolish mistake. Would we ask for the jackpot when we stood face to face with God? Defeniteky not. Everybody who had seen God would ask for the grace of God to be with Him in His boundless wonderfulness.

A silly animal would beg for the poisoned cookie. Hell holds these ready for us, as Jesus made clear.

Thou art in these heavens.

We herewith avow the living presence of God, whom we are allowed to call our Father, in heaven and testimone Gods real being now and in eternity in the Trinity of the Hols Spirit and the Son Jesus Christ, who was, long before Abraham was (John 8:58)

Its neither phrases nor rehearsed words, but the living truth we confess here: God, whom I am allowed to call OUR FATHER, you REALLY are in these heavens.

This is largely the credo of being a Christian. The “YOU ARE” beholds and includes the awareness of the real being of God – as real as you and I – no, a lot more, for we can be within God, whenever we are within God in our prayer. In this one and only God who told Moses in Ex 3:14: "I am who I am. Say to them: 'I AM has sent me to you. The LORD, and God of your fathers. The God of Abraham, of Isaac and of Jacob. This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.

**An old lady – she is long ago with God, told me in 1947 when I was a child of seven: When you pray, pray in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit, for it’s only then, that you might be absolutely sure, it’s well received by God and you are with God and God is with you.

Jesus said: When you ask my father in my name, it will be given to you. (Joh 16,23 - Joh 16,24)

Hallowed be thy name.

That’s what we promise to God whenever we pray the OUR FATHER.
Let us really do so then.

Thy name be hallowed is Jesus reminder, to not use the name of God in an ignoble way. Gods name is to be named in highest reverence only and in fear of God.
Fear of God dis nothing else, than prayer in awe; not fear and to be frightened of God, but the fear to loose the love of God to us.

How offending is defamatory badmouth talk about anyone. How ever the more is suchlike talk about God.
God, the creator of heaven and earth whom we are allowed to call father, can’t endorse our usage of His name in downright noncence, and calling out “Jesus” or “oh my God” for nullities or even in anger.
Every single one must know, what incredible blasphemy this is. It’s harmless to stupids – not so for Christians.
In times of emperors and imperators, this was “lese majesty“ and stiffly punished – even with death penalty. But what is a today quite funny seeming Emperor, compared to God?!

How much more so is the offence, done with the name of the living God…

there doesn’t seem so be too much interest in this topic, or might be in my view of this prayer (which I hoped matches the church’s view). I feel a bit awkward about being the only one posting. Should I skip it or rather going on until the end of this LORDS PRAYER? **
 
**YOUR KINGDOM COME

We know that God His return announced at Armageddon, the day when Jesus Christ, sitting at the right of the Father to judge the world and to establish the one and only empire of God - without a world singularly existing (might be even without the hell?) in eternity.

Without a hell is very dared to say, almost as dared as allegations of some theologians who deny a hell altogether. Jesus told us about the existence of hell quite often; so hell exists!
“Might be even without the hell?” is my very private thought. As Jesus spoke about ETERNAL sentence in hell, my idea must be totally wrong, but the thought is, that hell inclusive inmates might be banned in such an far away hemisphere, that it is “inexistent” then to heaven (?)
However; my private opinion here really is humble and doesn’t mean a thing.

More likely than not, the last judgement will take place, when all of us living today, saw God already. Let’s hope with those who died before us and see God, but can’t yet get into His kingdom, (Purgatory or Limbo) that we finally are with God. See, we will God the day we die; as Jesus promised the crucified to His right, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me at My Fathers in paradise.” for this criminal confessed his huge guiltiness. He recognises God in Jesus Christ. Did we?

Jesus’ „yet today“ reminds us, that we will see God the very day we die.
We ask God YOUR KINGDOM COME
so it does get noticeable here on earth. Gods kingdom might touch us, not the realm of Satan, whom the world without realising what she did, made to its prince by it’s disbelieve and sub serving the money.

Gods kingdom will come in any case, for He who created the world, will take it away when Christ comes at the end of time to complete Gods works and decree of providence, and we, if we lived in Jesus Christ’s word, will live in His kingdom which begun with the coming of Jesus and His resurrection and His word in John 14:2: …trust in me: In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
So it’s up to us to grab the hand Jesus reaches us and never withdraws, but we withdraw our hand too often.

**Yes, of course quite a lot of all this is said in the Catechism. But said in the words of the Church. Theological words.

That’s what I heard after a mass from a member of our Church, referring to the sermon. Oh – he said – they talk AT us, but not INTO us, and surely it doesn’t sound just to me somewhat “official” namely then, when they preach in another voice than they’d speak normally. If I’d try to explain the same thing, I’d speak as so, that my colleagues understand and not doze away.

That’s what ever since, I’m trying to do when talking about Christianity and Christian causes.

So, we shouldn’t simply repeat what we hear from Church. What good is it, if children repeat what they heard from their parents? It must come out of them! Out of the childs understanding, feeling and living. Otherwise it’s just words of obedience. Words without life.

We on the other hand, should live the bible and pass it on out of our heart, as soon as we understood and live to it. Tell others out of very own undergoing and witnessing – so people feel: Those are NOT learned words, but lived words.

Gods will should take place even then, when we hope for other proceedings. Looking back, we’ll realize that this was the best for us.

It’s sometimes hard to really to trust in God even then, when we rather had things to occur other. Let’s remember Jesus’ word: Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all the rest will be given to you as well. Mat 6:28-33. So let’s pray that Gods will might come about, for His steering of our life is the better way for us - IF - and that’s absolute precondition, IF our faith is unshakeable and not request only, but consists far more so on thanks and founds on God in everyday life.

Our desires and wanting is narrow-minded and short-sighted, neither seeing resultsnor outcomes of our wishes. That’s why always we ought to add to all we ask for; YOUR WILL BE DONE – not mine.

We ask, that Gods will be done and not that of Satan, who is so very efficient in his endeavour not to get detected, very successful so with Atheists as well as too many Christians, and he even penetrated the Church at times. Though this Church that forever will be attacked by Hell, will never be overcome, as Jesus promised in Mat 16:18: „And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome. And this had been so by he will of God for 2000 years, because this Church is inspired and administered by the Holy Spirit.

Whenever we are helpless, let’s pray YOUR WILL BE DONE, for God’s will is he way of absolute justice. Backsight will tell us, how right is was.

Gods will in heaven, as on this earth, for we know about Gods omnipotence in heaven, as Jesus told us, that God will spread his reign on all there is. Wherever the will of God is in force, is heaven, and nothing evil will happen. That’s why here not yet Gods will, but men’s will happens. That’s why Gods from us so felt “powerlessness“ seems to be fact. This “powerlessness“ is but nothing else than justice, without which we’d not be free to believe or not believe. If Got would identifiable interfere, everyone would see GOD IS. No believe is necessary when it’s obvious. The earth would be senseless as place for probation. Heaven would be here.
So this “powerlessness“ of God makes all sense in Luke 22,31 where Satan might riddle us like seed. That’s why we pray YOUR WILL BE DONE in deep believe and trust in God.

I will keep it going. I cannot understand how the English translation of the prayer was authorized: “and lead us not into temptation…”

God does not tempt, or lead to it. God did not tempt His Son in the desert, the evil one tried and failed.

As Fr. John Corapi points out, in Spanish it reads “and let us fall not into temptation…”

Isn’t it more God-like to preserve us from falling into temptation than to lead us into it? As He did with Mary, he preserved her from sin.

God is all Goodness, and cannot lead to evil. To me, that reflects the nature of God more faithfully.

**And don’t lead us into temptation, is easily misunderstood, for definitely God never leads us into temptation – it’s the devil who does that. This enemy of God is it though, who is allowed to sift us like wheat.
Though; whenever we ask God to lead us, to guide us past this temptation, we are led away from Satan’s pitfall and will take the right way, which is Jesus alone.
Why we might be sift like wheat by Mr. Devil is explained in the book Job. It’s an examination as to whether or not we are firm in God.

In the Lords Prayer we ask God to guide us away, off this temptations, just as loving parents lead their child away, off temptations for body and soul of the beloved.

Too often the temptation to put the commandment to love God and our Next, on the back of our own requirements, is huge. Sore the temptation, to judge our neighbour forwardly. Huge the temptation to draw own advantage, of my next’s disadvantage. Mighty the temptation, the commandment “love your next” to apply to those I know and like only. Enormous the temptation to set material pleasures above those of our soul and relation to God.

Dad told me when I was a child: Temptation is a ever so tasty niblet. You really want to have it. It looks great, smells lovely – you want it!
BUT IT IS POISON! The devil offers it to you! Don’t fall for his hook! His poison makes you his prey – which feels good at first, but is deadly at the end. It’s got but one purpose – to destroy you, with the aim to provoke God.

Yes, we re allowed to be sift by Satan, but when we pray to God not to lead us into that temptation, we ask God to show us the right way – bring us back on the track – which is Jesus. Just as a child expects his dad or mom to hold him when he slips, or is in danger to slide away into a wrong path through life.

That’s why we pray: And don’t lead us into temptation, but deliver us from this evil.

I think the Lords Prayer is self-explanatory…it is simple, concise, and to the point. It is easy to meditate on as you are saying it. No translation is necessary:thumbsup:

Well - I don’t really think so, for the Lords Prayer is the one and only prayer, that actually fills libraries all over the world.

Just take the very first statement
YOU ARE in heaven.

As soon as a person realises that God IS - he knows all what’s important for our being.

One could write a book over every word of the prayer.

Might be no translation, - but what about statement?
If the world would unanimously say “THOU ART”
then the world would be healthy 👍

As long as you see it as simple prayer, you didn’t understand this prayer yet. Don’t worry - you will one day:thumbsup:

Intellectual?
Well old chum, I myself am a very simple craftsmen. Neither intellectual nor educated. Just 8 years of elementary school. But believe in God is something very, very much different to (or is it “from”) intellectual education. It’s just a very strong true feeling or convincement.

Convincement?

No, it’s something entirely different. It is a feeling of being at home!
Yeah! That’s the word. Being at home.

There is not intellectualism needed. Even the smallest child knows about the cosiness of being at home - that means with our loving father.
That’s what Christians feel: Never never to be alone!

The thing about the Our Father is - it is so simple that a child can follow it and can pray it, and it is so deep that the greatest scholar will never get to the bottom of its meaning and depth. It is a prayer from God, teaching us how to pray to God!

THY KINGDOM COME

We know, that God announced His return through Jesus for Day of Judgement – Doomsday; Jesus sitting on the right of God, to judge and to establish Gods Kingdom as the one and only existing – without a world, without a universe, and who knows: might be without even the existence of a hell; if hell will be vanished then into farthest elimination, to sink into absolute oblivion including its inhabitants.

We, in case we might die before Doomsday, hope, that we will see all who died before us, hope, as those hope who saw God but are nor yet allowed to live in Gods kingdom, and wait in purgatory, to one day enter Gods eternity, which will go for most of us, as for the robber on the right of Jesus on the cross.
“Yet today you will be together with me before My Father” Jesus said to this murderer to Jesus’ right; this monster of a man, whom Jesus accepted for the reason of this mans regret and believe at the end: Luke 23:43= “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Jesus said TODAY! He didn’t say “some time” ore “in a while” or “after some time” – no – Jesus said TODAY to this criminal who late, but finally the day he died recognised and regretted his overgrown fault.
This man finally recognised Jesus Christ and found mercy before the Lord. And TODAY meant TODAY to Jesus, who at this moment was God and HUMAN same time. It means TODAY when we die too. Today – not in some eternity. So, in fact the word REST IN PEACE isn’t true. We won’t rest, but will be very much alive.

Jesus, who was fully God and also fully man, must be fully man in this hour of His death when he shouted: “Father, Father, why have you forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34).
This abandonment Jesus had to suffer, for it made Him fully human in this moment, to the human who knows through His very own experience, our abandonment - when we cry for God.

We ask YOUR KINGDOM COME as we want to feel Gods Kingdom as early as here in our life. God started to establish His kingdom however, with Jesus birth into this world which we celebrate on Christmas, He started it with Jesus resurrection and Jesus going to hell to free all those, who where good but still didn’t get into heaven, since our overwhelming fault prohibited that.

We want to undergo a feeling of Gods kingdom here. Let’s do our part to it! The devils “kingdom” we so see and feel and see in the papers every day. Let’s work for Gods kingdom. It will come anyhow at the end of time,
and we will live there, as Jesus told us in John 14:2= “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.”

This is the hand of Jesus He is reaching us – let’s not reject Him.
