In your own opinion what is missing to those people who think that the Rosary is monotonous Love?

Lack of understanding of the nature of the prayer. We are not generally a contemplative culture.

The ability to use the imagination and heart to meditate.

Also some difficulty in understanding the question… do you mean people who dont take to it and find it monotonous or repetitive? if so then I think it is likely that they are not thinking on what they are saying, in particular the mysteries - it can be useful to slow down and meditate on them. But other people find the rosary useful and dont meditate on the mysteries so this is only my own opinion and what moves me. For me the rosary has a meditative quality.

If that’s the question, I can see this. When I was new to the faith, the rosary didn’t make much sense to me at all because of the repetition. Once I learned how to use that as the “backdrop” to meditating on the mysteries and intentions, it’s beautiful.

The rosary is an optional devotion. One can have a deep devotion to this form of prayer, that does not make them any less loving or Catholic than the person who prays in other ways.

Meditation on the mysteries brings graces. If you pray it long enough you will experience the Joy of the Holy Spirit and signal graces. Praying the words of the Our Father and Hail Mary until they become fixed in the heart will be noticed. Some require longer and some require less time to accomplish this. It might work better if the devotion is accompanied by patience for oneself and use the Rosary to explore the interior much like looking for bread crumbs in a labyrinth. The soul is like a labyrinth.

The Rosary is a powerfull weapon, but I usually do the Chaplet of St.Joseph…

Monotonous repetition? Whatever, it is a lack of contemplation which makes any contemplative prayer less effective. Lack of engagement, even in the Lord’s prayer can render it meaningless. I fight the habit of viewing prayer as words, when it is actually intimate communication with God.

Best description of it I read was a comparison to a child being rocked on her mama’s lap repeating “Mama, mama, mama, mama.”

We are always thinking of stuff while we are awake. It is a jumble - we jump from thing to thing in a process of association, without any real plan. Most of what we think about are our plans, the people in our lives, not to mention the things we shouldn’t be thinking about. The rosary is just a way to discipline our thoughts so that they run in one train, focused on a few objects, spiritual objects. It is just a form of discipline, IMHO, one which will train your mind to be more focused on the important things and less distracted by consumerism, worry, etc…

This is the cause of discursive prayer. St. Teresa of Avila wrote about discursive prayer. Mindfulness prayer is similar. I’m not sure what the difference is?

The focus in prayer comes with practice. I believe, the rosary purges the thoughts eventually and creates interior prayer focus with experience.
