I don’t think that blaming the media is appropriate here. Although I dislike some media outlets - television most prominently - as much as the next person, because of the indecent and louche combination of exploiting anything related to sex and violence, and the pursuit of profit at any cost, I do think that the church has a lot to answer for.
Sometimes people forget what we are dealing with here, when we toss around euphemisms like ‘abuse’ and ‘mismanagement’.
I know people who have been raped by their own fathers as infants and young teenagers, and these are truly broken people. Mental illness, drug abuse, stunted development and an inability to love and enjoy a healthy sex life are among the problems that these poor souls have to struggle with every day of their life.
I don’t care who the rapist in question is, or what his religious convictions are. But as any educated person knows, paedophilia is all but incurable and the rapist in question will do it again if society doesn’t restrain him.
I can not think of any crime, short of murder, that is as loathsome and evil as the destruction of a child’s life and innocence by rape.
Anyone guilty of this should spend the rest of his life in jail . Period. And the cell next to him should be reserved for those who knowingly let this monster roam among our children.
I don’t understand how some people proclaim moral certainty when it comes to victimless crimes like homosexuality between adults, but all of a sudden become moral relativists when it comes to the most heinous crime. For shame !
