I think it is pretty clear the media wants the US to loose the battle in Iraq. The question is why?
Maybe it’s that ol’ liberal guilt – you know, the folks that go around scourging themselves saying “We Americans are such terrible people that we deserve to be attacked by terrorists”, etc., ad nauseum.

Not only does the Church condemn unjust warfare, but she also links this condemnation with support for freedom of speech, calling it “free communication”:

**“Respect for and development of human life require peace. Peace is not merely the absence of war, and it is not limited to maintaining a balance of powers between adversaries. Peace cannot be attained on earth without safeguardeing the goods of persons, free communication among men, respect for the dignity of persons and peoples, and the assiduous practice of fraternity. Peace is ‘the tranquillity of order.’ Peace is the work of justice and the effect of charity” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2304).

Keep and spread the Faith.

…i believe the media just wants the truth, as do the american people.
IMHO
Yes the truth is what we want. But, the truth is hard to find with all the lies and leanings in the mainstream media.

Most of the “news” we read IMHO is mostly opinion and belongs in the editorial section.:banghead:

Give me a break, Kathleen. Where do you get your news except from the newspapers and perhaps the TV and the radio? It’s all MSM.

You left out the internet. You can find what’s happening on the ground if ya wanna without the MSM.

An example of bias:

**Body armor Redux **

This headline in the NYTimes caught my eye : U.S. Struggling to Get Soldiers Updated Armor. This is the opening sentence:
For the second time since the Iraq war began, the Pentagon is struggling to replace body armor that is failing to protect American troops from the most lethal attacks by insurgents.

Now I would hate to accuse the “newspaper of record” of displaying bias in it’s reporting, but it would have been equally as accurate to say this: U.S. upgrading Body Armor to protect servicemembers.

For the second time since the Iraq war began, the Pentagon is upgrading what is already the best body armor in the world to further protect American troops. The current armor, which has saved countless soldiers lives, is being upgraded with better protective inserts, in response to the increased lethality of insurgent attacks, primarily from weapons being provided to the insurgents by Iran.

Both stories would have been equally accurate. Both are biased in a particular direction. At least I admit it.
Why don’t you go to work for a newspaper then?

You’re right, but, what are the Internet sources but CNN and Yahoo and Reuters and Fox, etc.? If not MSM, effectively MSM IMO.

Actually, it is pretty close to treason. If this were 1941, it would be treason.
How you figure?

On another note, I seriously doubt the American public or the press would have been giving good reports about the Pacific War if the invasion of Japan had started. After the body counts from Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the public was getting antsy. I guess by your definition if the press had started giving bad reports with regards to a mainland invasion they would all be guilty of treason.

LOL!!! You haven’t scratched the surface of places on the internet you can get reliable news from. I see you left out Drudge’s site. Any reason why?

I love Drudge’s site, but most of it is just links to other websites, including Yahoo, Reuters, CNN, Fox, NYT, etc.

Is it not an opinion , rather than hard news site?

The reasons for the war have been lied about, the water muddied, the motives altered.
Pro-war sentiment is jingoistic.
The war is illegal and has resulted in hundreds of thousands of innocent people dying.
A cavalier attitude to Middle Eastern politics is the worst possible tactic if one desires world peace.

Nope. There is opinion there if you want, but in addition to a ton of hard news you have links to all the major wire services, including search engines specifically for those wire services.

Take a few minutes to check it out:)

There’s also the wire service search engines as well.

I think the media ought to tell us what’s going badly in Iraq and elsewhere. That’s their job. However, they tell us little or nothing about what is going right! That’s also their job, and the real beef here. Our people are doing a lot of good in Iraq and in Afghanistan, but we hear about that so seldom from the MSM they appear to be trying to kill the morale of our troops, even if they have no such intentions. I know bombings and insurgents and so on make for headline news, but all that should be balanced with the telling us about the successful missions our people have achieved and I don’t just mean the military ones. When they start doing that they will have my respect.

Well, let me count the ways:

Newspapers, Internet, Blogs, TV, Radio, AmVet, DAV and Zenit News to name a few. Direct mailings from people involved in Charities. Oh and family members around the world. To name a few.

Sorry I am not a hermit and I have been well educated. So I take my information from various sources.

Yes, exactly. I think it is a perversion of Christian humility. Christianity so permeates everything in the culture that people don’t recognize it in themselves. I think it is also a copout. It’s hard to understand all the complexities and differences in foreign cultures, and easier (we think) to understand our own, so we strike out at what we know because that’s easier. Makes your moral world a lot easier if US=wrong and everyone else=right every time.

Geez where have YOU been? There are hundreds of blogs being written by guys on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, with photos posted and many multi-contributor sites. Google for Milblogs and you’ll find a mess of them. Stateside blogs like Baldilocks, Arrgggh and Captain’s Quarters also link to many of the active duty bloggers.

Here’s a freebie for ya. You don’t need the MSM to run interference anymore.
