The first Christians were actually poor and uneducated people. And if you don’t believe me, read this excerpt from an apology by Athenagoras, a Christian apologist of the second half of the second century:

“But among us you will find uneducated persons, and artisans, and old women, who, if they are unable in words to prove the benefit of our doctrine, yet by their deeds exhibit the benefit arising from their persuasion of its truth: they do not rehearse speeches, but exhibit good works; when struck, they do not strike again; when robbed, they do not go to law; they give to those that ask of them, and love their neighbours as themselves.”

If they were largely uneducated, then perhaps that explains why they misinterpreted the Jewish Scriptures as referring to their Jesus.

Its a schoold for children (usually) to continue their religious education. Generally it is in addition to the secular education. Kinda like CCD classes for Catholics.

Really? At least I stand up for Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic church. I don’t see you doing that at all. And Whosoever says that Jesus is this and Jesus is that, whosoever speaks of Christ in such a manner, that it border lines blasphemy and ignorance and hatred and resentment toward holy Catholic church, you bet I will defend her until the end.
When non-Catholic Christians and Jews speak of my church and of Christ the way they have been doing so here on this CATHOLIC forum, I will NOT sit down and take it. These people are highly ignorant of the gospels and of Jesus himself.
If you have a problem with how I speak, perhaps you need to go back and check these Jewish posts and see what you come up with. If you are a devout Catholic, with the Spirit inside of you, then you will not comment against me. Read my signature.

You have always struck me as a good person, it is Catholics like yourself that make me think good things of your church.

I agree with you on the disturbing nature of the other posts; the fanaticism is disconcerting.

I have had a gift from God that I need not go into detail about, that only my priest knows. This was enough to convince me about what I needed to do with my life and I do it well, according to others who have converted through me.
I am sorry you had to go through that and I go through it almost every day because people are constantly hating Catholics. Don’t you get it? You say some of the posts are not in accordance with Catholic faith, I realize this and that’s fine, it is NOT fine when people defame the Gospels as if it were a fairy tale, and defame Jesus Christ as if he is a joeshmo next door. If you don’t like my comments (and people love this, the fact that a Catholic is arguing with another,) Then perhaps you need to pray more.

So are you saying that when they wanted Jesus crucified, when they turned their backs on him leaving him to die, when Pilate offered Jesus, instead the Jews who chose Barrabas, in spite of all the miracles Jesus did, yet they still didn’t believe, that they were only going by ‘their rules and traditions?’ Was Judas going by tradition also? That the prophets have foretold Jesus to a ‘T’, yet they still reject him is merely tradition? Just want to understand your understanding of this all.
