The Miracle Cure Bringing Close Canonization of First American Indian Saint, the Lily of the Mohawks

American Indians are celebrating the fact that the canonization of Kateri Tekakwitha is likely soon because of this miracle. A minor cut in a basketball game led to the infection of a six-year-old boy with flesh-eating bacteria. After his family prayed for Blessed Kateri’s intercession, the boy, near death, was cured in a case inexplicable to medical science.

Excellent! This is a wonderful thing, for my area and for the whole Church. I only hope that, in the renewed interest in, her people will focus on the actual young woman and her virtues and trials, not just garden statues of a pretty little Indian maiden and patroness of ecology.
