As I recall, St. Augustine had a similar experience. He prayed for more Faith so that he could understand - as opposed to more understanding so that he could have Faith.
Ultimately, God’s Plan for our salvation - which certainly includes the Blessed Virgin Mary - is something that we can never fully understand. This is not a fault of the Plan - nor a fault of ours (does the cup complain it can not hold the waters of the ocean?). If there is a fault it would be in demanding that a mystery be made understandable.

While I understand your frustrations with absence of a final authority outside the CC, I wonder, how will you overcome the intellectual doubts you’ve expressed about things like Marianism? I take it that you intend to step out of the intellectual realm and accept on faith alone?
