The most intense debate between Catholic and Protestant:Mary the Mother of God

Hi, PLeeD,

As I recall, St. Augustine had a similar experience. He prayed for more Faith so that he could understand - as opposed to more understanding so that he could have Faith.

Ultimately, God’s Plan for our salvation - which certainly includes the Blessed Virgin Mary - is something that we can never fully understand. This is not a fault of the Plan - nor a fault of ours (does the cup complain it can not hold the waters of the ocean?). If there is a fault it would be in demanding that a mystery be made understandable.

God bless
JMA, congratulations on your spiritual progress.

While I understand your frustrations with absence of a final authority outside the CC, I wonder, how will you overcome the intellectual doubts you’ve expressed about things like Marianism? I take it that you intend to step out of the intellectual realm and accept on faith alone?

Thank you all for your prayers and may God bless every one of you. I was asked a question from someone on the forum.

I am accepting the teaching of the church on faith…but more than that, also on the nature of the Church of Jesus Christ which is the pillar and ground of the truth…also that God gave binding and loosing authority unto Peter and the other Apostles. The church proclaimed the doctrine of God infalliably…I believe this.

I had many misconceptions about Mary and I was taught in RCIA, and I still had them. However when you in depth study the Marian teachings you can see clearly that charging Catholics with worship of Mary is just plain dumb. The doctrine is clear and laid down.

The issue of Sola scriptura is an indefensible one…this as well influenced my decision to return to the church…if scripture functions as Protestants want it to…as the Sole rule of faith then why are there so many different denominations with differing doctrines. How many Holy Spirit’s are there?

There are a number of places in scripture itself which shows the Apostles didn’t operate on the principle of Scripture alone…look at Acts 15 and the decision of the council…compare that with 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The Old Testament is inspired and for correction in teaching etc…Yet for the Apostles decision in Acts 15…which OT passages did they use to prove the Gentiles didn’t need to become cirucmscised to become a Christian etc. If you relied on the OT alone then the Apostles would have had a hard time defending their position. God gave the church revelation through the church on this matter.

Well, more later see you all later --Andrew
