As the Title stated , what is a good movie that you have watched recently ,
Could be a latest release , or an old movie that you hadn’t seen for a while,
we go to the movies every couple of weeks, would you recommend a movie to watch.?

I have no idea what films you prefer or what is showing down there; else I’d love to be of help.

I’m into the oldies; TCM stuff. Just watched The Birds today. In February they show mostly Oscar winners. Good stuff!

We just saw the other day, The Theory of Everything at the cinema,
Found it really interesting How Stephen Hawkins lived his life,

A movie we enjoyed a few months ago was Nebraska, it a down to earth type story.

I’m also a fan of Woody Allen Movies,

If you watched a movie lately that you enjoyed,then make a recommendation for it,

And if you never go to the Cinema,then mabe you should,
go with someone and smell the Roses, life is their for you to enjoy,
 
Haven’t been to the cinema for ages.
But I did watch an old movie a few nights ago.

Some like it hot. 🙂
 
I do not often go to the movies as so few movies now days are worth the price of admission for me. We are currently watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy at home…again! Greatest movies of all time!.
 
On Netflix watch the apostle Peter

Low budget but fantastic acting.
 
Not a theatre film, but an HBO documentary called “Night Will Fall”. It’s running on HBO this month. It’s about a documentary that was being made by Alfred Hitchcock and Sidney Bernstein in 1945 about German concentration camps. There’s a lot of lost footage from the camps that is heart-wrenching. You have to be in the frame of mind to be able to stomach such inhumanity, though.
 
My wife and I went to see “The Water Diviner” starring Russell Crowe. It doesn’t have much to do with water divining, apart from the opening scene, and was really a movie about the consequences of the Gallipoli campaign in the First World War, as it impacted on Crowe’s (playing Joshua Connor) “family” and the development of Turkish nationalism.

We were left wondering at the end as to whether he and his new found romantic (Turkish) interest would get married or not.

Good film - we enjoyed it.

I don’t know if it would appeal to US audiences a great deal, since the Gallipoli campaign had no US involvement. Still, it was slated for a limited release in the USA.
 
We LOVE old movies, but there are some newer films we enjoy. Still, we rarely go to theaters these days because most films are trash or “message” movies. :rolleyes: Anyway, I recently watched an adaptation of “Great Expectations” on Netflix that I thought did the story justice. I also saw a gut-wrenching, but mercifully unbiased docu-drama about Hiroshima. We bought “The Creature from the Black Lagoon” and the “Predator” trilogy on DVD for Valentine’s Day–yeah, that’s how we roll–horror/creature films. 😛 We own a large assortment of DVDs from sci-fi to adventure to animation. Some of the films the critics hated, we love–so I guess we’re not sophisticated enough for modern snobs, but we like it like that. 😉

I never listen to the critics, I make my own mind up about a film! Most like you say the critics hated and I loved 🙂
 
Rather than debate, let me just note that I did not include the Hobbit series for a reason. Oh, and who could argue the his Aragorn is considerably less than Tolkien portrayed? From Christ figure to reluctant hero! Shesh! But going from the greatest books of the century to the screen was bound to be a step down.

Maybe my opinions of other movies are just lower than yours.
 
I particularly like old movies. I really only like watching old movies to tell you the truth. The Hays Code, which old movies had to follow, prevented them from featuring immoral, and disgusting scenes. Although the Hays Code had some slightly racist parts, it was, in my opinion, much better than the way movies work now. Personally, I find it a shame that they got rid of it. Nowadays, most movies feature some form of sinful behavior. Even many movies aimed at young children are rated PG these days. :rolleyes:
 
A neighbor went to see The Boy Next Door the other evening. She said it was good. Jennifer Lopez stars in it. The Imitation Game is supposed to be good. I saw American Sniper and thought it was good.
 
I got a $6 credit from Google Play as a Chromecast user, and used it to rent Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock, last weekend. Wasn’t impressed, even though I like Ms. Bullock’s work generally. I thought it was disjointed, and too melodramatic in places.

Still, I liked the dance scene. “Dancing is just a conversation between two people. Talk to me.”
 
“I Am David” is a good rental. It’s about a young boy trekking across Europe after escaping from a communist prison. Jim Caviezel and Joan Plowright have memorable supporting roles.

Actually, I think at least some of this comes from a tightening up of the MPAA ratings for films targeted at children. Many past Disney animated movies got a “G” rating despite containing violent scenes. (The finale of Beauty and the Beast comes to mind.)

That does sound like a good movie. I have never heard of it. Anyone well known that plays David?
