I’ve been thinking over the Name of Allah, and I realized something:

What if some of Mohammed’s disciples got it wrong when they said God’s Name is Allah? Allow me to explain.

I am not challenging whether or not God’s Name is Allah, but rather, I’m challenging what I believe is a possible error among early followers of Mohammed. Now, let’s look at some Koran verses which have been translated into English:

*[20.8] Allah – there is no god but He; His are the very best names.

[22.40] Those who have been expelled from their homes without a just cause except that they say: Our Lord is Allah. And had there not been Allah’s repelling some people by others, certainly there would have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques in which Allah’s name is much remembered; and surely Allah will help him who helps His cause; most surely Allah is Strong, Mighty.*

Now, I don’t know Arabic, but I do know that the word Allah is Arabic for “God”, so if we translated the verses into Arabic, they would say:

*[20.8] God – there is no god but He; His are the very best names.

[22.40] Those who have been expelled from their homes without a just cause except that they say: Our Lord is God. And had there not been God’s repelling some people by others, certainly there would have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques in which God’s name is much remembered; and surely God will help him who helps His cause; most surely God is Strong, Mighty.*

I believe saying God’s Name is God is philosophically correct, because God is the God, and there is no god beside Him. And He has said in the Bible, “I am who I am” - that is, God is who He is: God is God. I think that naming God “Allah” - which is basically a redundant way of referring to God - starting when Mohammed’s disciples began to use God’s Name too literally.

I also think that correcting such a error would do no harm to Islam, nor to the Koran, because the mistake would be on the early disciples, not on the Koran nor on Mohammed.

Anyway, that’s my little meditation on “Allah”.

I’ve been thinking over the Name of Allah,
The Bible has been translated into many languages, including Arabic. Arabic translations of the Bible use the word “Allah” where English translations use the word “God”.

The Arabic Allah comes from Al-Lah, where Al is the definite article and Lah is a word for God which is cognate with the word El use in Hebrew (e.g. Elohim).

In short, Allah is closer to the original Hebrew Elohim than the English “God”.

Why Allah didn’t keep His “Yahweh” name !!!

Why “Yahweh” not even one of the 99 names of Allah !!!

This is the one that I keep getting stuck on.

God said to Moses that this would be his name forever and to all generations. Now, it is not on the list of 99 names. I know that there are Muslims who will say that the list is not complete and that there are other names, but that does not change the fact that the ONE name that God chose for himself and said “this is my name” is not on the list at all.

Where does God say (according to the Bible) that his name is Yahweh? I thought He says “I am that I am” and “tell them I am sent you” and things like that. Not that it matters.

Even the pagan Arabs at the time understood Allah to be the supreme deity, their problem was that they set up idols to worship between themselves and Allah which is not correct.

To say “Allah” is more than to just say “the God,” for one thing. For another, “God” is a much more recent word from Europe, why settle for that when the Qur’an which Allah revealed and preserved calls him Allah?

Exodus 3:13-15
13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’
So, God is telling Moses that he shall always be known as “I AM WHO AM.”

Later, Exodus 6:2-3, God says that his Name was not known to Abraham and Isaac, though he was known to them
2 And God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am the LORD. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name I was not known to them.
Now, why is “I AM WHO AM” not in the Qur’an?

Allah in Islam is considered a proper name like John or Peter. In other words, God in Islam has a name like humans have. Christian Arabs who use the word Allah do NOT take it as God’s “name”.

It was surely Jews and Christians who corrupted it and Muhammad restored it back 😛

Introduction to basic facts of history:

Moon worship has been practiced in Arabia since 2000 BC. The crescent moon is the most common symbol of this pagan moon worship as far back as 2000 BC.

In Mecca, there was a god named Hubal who was Lord of the Kabah.

This Hubal was a moon god.

One Muslim apologist confessed that the idol of moon god Hubal was placed upon the roof of the Kaba about 400 years before Muhammad. This may in fact be the origin of why the crescent moon is on top of every minaret at the Kaba today and the central symbol of Islam atop of every mosque throughout the world:

About four hundred years before the birth of Muhammad one Amr bin Lahyo … a descendant of Qahtan and king of Hijaz, had put an idol called Hubal on the roof of the Kaba. This was one of the chief deities of the Quraish before Islam. (Muhammad The Holy Prophet, Hafiz Ghulam Sarwar (Pakistan), p 18-19, Muslim)

The moon god was also referred to as “al-ilah”. This is not a proper name of a single specific god, but a generic reference meaning “the god”. Each local pagan Arab tribe would refer to their own local tribal pagan god as “al-ilah”.

“al-ilah” was later shortened to Allah before Muhammad began promoting his new religion in 610 AD.

There is evidence that Hubal was referred to as “Allah”.

When Muhammad came along, he dropped all references to the name “Hubal” but retained the generic “Allah”.

Muhammad retained almost all the pagan rituals of the Arabs at the Kaba and redefined them in monotheistic terms.

Regardless of the specifics of the facts, it is clear that Islam is derived from paganism that once worshiped a moon-god.

Although Islam is today a monotheist religion, its roots are in paganism.

Reply To Robert Morey’s Moon-God Allah Myth: A Look At The Archaeological Evidence

It’s kind of sad to see this same myth repeated yet again.

Thank God the Jews at least still keep the Torah in Hebrew, otherwise Christians might start believing that Jesus spoke English. Good grief.

The name Allah , is a name of God in Islam . It is the most common name . It does not mean ‘‘The God’’ , it is understood to refer to the God of Moses Jesus Abraham Muhammed and all the prophets.

It is the God that the arabs understood to be their God from time of Ishmael , the grandfather of the most of the arabs.

From Ishmael time and onwards arabs worshipped Allah . Then came a period where one influential leader of their brought idols to Mecca and IIdols started to be worshipped ‘‘beside’’ Allah. The Idols were worshipped as subbordinate Gods. The Idea was that they are mediatiators or intercessors with the Arch God of their forefather Ishmael , which is again Allah. All this is before even the birh of Muhammed . It is just the history of the arabs. So to say that Muhammed deciples starting using Allah more frequently or any of the sort is incorrect. Allah was the name of the Greater God of the arabs at the time that they had idols beside him. And It was the name of The God of the arabs when they knew no God but him.

I totally agree with the verse in the bible that says ‘’ I am who i am ‘’ for a simple reason … simply God is who he is , and the names we give him ( unless godforbid , it is a foul name ) is accepted .

There is a verse in the Quran that clearly states that noble names that is deserved to God are all ok to call him with. weather it is Allah or other …

The Merciful,
The Powerful,
The able,
The Just

Now there seems to be an idea that since the torah is older than the Quran ten the name of the Torah is more authentic.

Well , the Torah has decended before the Quran , but the name is not necessarily becomes more authentic.

The reason is simple. It isnt about the holy text. It is about the language. Both Hebrew and arabic formulated simultaneously. Ishmael settled in Arabia, married there are lived there . The language he heared from His father when he visited him , and from his mother is the language that abraham spoke . Ishmael affected the people he settled and intermarried with with this language . Moreover the arabs bieng traders to the north and the south. Have been affected by the languages in different areas of palestine.

The same happened with Isaac. Only that his decendants were more afrfected with Egypian language due to the long time they stayed in Egypt.

Thus Both Arabic and hebrew simultaneously were affected by Both abrahams language and the language of the local area they lived in .

Both are similar but not identical. And for both languages God gave names of himself to both people. Some are similar and some are not.

so saying that YHVH is the authentic name is not necessarily correct. And infact , from a linguistic point of view and not religious , also not correct , since both languages developed with the sons of abrahams in both their residing place.

At the end of the day , Abraham and his sone , spoke the languages they knew , and they were the languages that peopel around them talked.

best regards

So, are we to ignore the fact that God said that this was to be his name from then on as a sign to all nations?

This is c.r.a.p from start to finish.

There is no problem of it bieng his name. It is just that there are other names .
I have no issue with that, my issue is the fact that he old Moses BEFORE he told Muhammed that this would be his name and then it does not appear on Muhammed’s list.

Where did it go?

Allah is considered a proper name; this i think is the issue. God did not give His proper name as Allah…

Muhammed’s language is not Hebrew . Besides it isnt his only name. The name of the God of Abraham to the arabs is Allah.

Well. may be not to the jews. Although Many Jews use the name Allah for God with no problem.
