The difference is that you think that God could use crystals to heal the ‘soul’.

I think that only GOD heals the soul through the Sacraments and prayer and life offered up.

Everything else medicinal heals our physical selves and this can have the consequence of helping to make us feel a bit better.

Your still not quite correct. I believe God heals us, mentally,physically, and spiritually through the Sacraments and a prayer life offer up to Him in harmony or more like through or with the whole created world!

I believe it is almost like I see God as healing us with and through both. Kind of like it goes hand in hand.

I think that making blanket statements such as “all yoga is evil and meant to worship Hindi Gods of the Devil” are a huge problem. I think that most people here could dissect most of the issues that are being discussed and find good in all of it.

Many of us have been to yoga classes held gasp at churches that are for exercise only and never even realized that some people could use it for anything other than exercise.
Many people meditate and focus on Jesus Christ whilst they are meditating.
There are catholics (women especially) who participate in some new age religions because they want to see or experience the female side of religion.
And not all masons are evil, and not all blondes are air heads, and not all blue eyed babies are girls etc. and so forth.
God made the rocks, God made the earth and God made the plants and all of these are used for the good of man. And if it wasn’t for electricity, your heart wouldn’t beat either.
Give God credit for creating foxglove, the plant we use to made Digitoxin, but give man some credit for using their brains to discover a great medication that would save many lives. (brains given to them by the great Almighty)

Can new age stuff be dangerous? Yes. Is it all dangerous? No.

And don’t give something more credit than it deserves, such at tarot cards… They are pieces of paper with designs on them and someone attempts to see the future by looking at them. The cards, in and of themselves are not bad, in fact, some of them are quite beautiful and actual works of art. You can also use a plain deck of playing cards to “tell fortunes” as well as cards designed specifically for such use. Does that mean everyone who plays bridge or solitaire is bad? Nope, surely not.
The majority of people who experiment with tarot cards usually figure out that they can’t tell a thing by using them and they get shuffled into a drawer and eventually thrown out… they are just pieces of paper. Of course, there’s always that one or two who go further, and that can be dangerous.

Don’t learn to fear things that you don’t understand. There is nothing evil about educating yourself and reading about such things. Do your research so you understand. Google is our friend and it’s all out there online!!

Speaking of crystals, as a kid I was interested in building a radio from scratch and had gotten a book on it. One of the main parts that would make it work was a crystal. I forget how it works but it has a scientific basis of course. I have no idea what new age folks do with crystals. I just know that crystals in and of themselves are not bad. If new age people start worshiping or trying to do magic with clay bricks, I am not going to tear down my house.

I’ve been researching all of this for a long time. I have met and talked to people who believe various things that are false, and, in some cases, have no scientific basis whatsoever, and in too many cases, involve things that are anti-God, not Christian and evil.

It’s difficult to mention certain things because I don’t want to encourage anyone to become involved in any of it. Yoga, for example, does not come in one generic form. There are other forms, and they involve non-Christian spirituality.

I hope I don’t sound like “mister know it all” but nothing in the New Age is Christian, or good. Tarot cards have a long history but there are publications that advertise “tarot readers” and the whole idea is to convince people that these cards can be used for divination. The same with “psychic readers.” One could argue that it’s fake and all about money, but people are influenced by this sort of thing. They put their faith, wrongly, in these things.

Medicinal herbs either work in real life or not. They don’t involve beliefs. Aspirin was found in a plant, samples were given to doctors, and the company asked for their feedback. The feedback was that it worked. Nothing New Age about it. Then you go to reading tea leaves. That is wrong.

I don’t understand the “female side of religion.” Jesus told us that all of us have access to Him and He is the way, the truth and the light. I’ve read a number of New Age publications that mention the Earth Mother or Mother Goddess or similar. None of that is grounded in Biblical truth.

Freemasonry is incompatible with the Catholic faith. I mean, individual Masons may be fine people, but we should be aware of that.

Unfortunately, I’ve read about too many people getting involved in what are referred to as New Age beliefs. If a person believes these things, as opposed to Christianity, most will move into dangerous spiritual situations.

Thanks. The kind of crystals I’m referring to are sold in New Age stores and other places. There are books that detail how to use crystals to gain love or heal or to prevent an enemy from affecting you and the list goes on. Different crystals are assigned different attributes or abilities. It is pagan, and should be avoided by all. I met two women who were selling a variety of crystals and I asked how they worked. One woman replied, “Well, computer chips are made of crystals.” But they were not selling these crystals for use in some device.

Well, yes, we understand the most basic uses of these things, but I was talking about more advanced uses, things we currently dont understand, eventually though, mankind will likely discover these things, but it takes time.

I have a feeling there are MANY other uses for alot of natural materials we see all around us, but problem is, we just are not advanced enough to recognize these things yet. I have a feeling this is where many of the ‘zero point energy technologies’ will come from. so it does make sense that the powers that be would not desire the general public to ever learn about these things, could cause entire industries to crumble if people realized they didnt need to buy certain things anymore.

In my own experience, it is a hodgepodge of things borrowed from a lot of different places and a variety of religions. If you go to one group that is into new age stuff, you might find an interest in yoga and martial arts and meditation. If you go to another group you might find them teaching things from Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism all mixed up. A third group might be experimenting with psychic stuff, which is the closest I’ve seen to “satanic” things.

This was definitely the impression I got when I went to one of the videos linked in this thread. The narrators definition of New Age was all over the place and vague. I think that it would be more useful to speak of specific practices and philosophies, as they vary so widely and stem from many different sources.

Witchcraft is witchcraft and has nothing to do with New Age.

Spirit animals are from several different ancient religions, including Native American, nothing “New Age” or Age of Aquarius about them.

Apocalyptic ideology is found in a wide variety of belief systems,from Judaism and Christianity to people who believe in UFO’s and aliens.

I have seen crosses, rosaries, Bibles and collections of the teachings of Christ sold in “New Age” bookstores. That doesn’t make them New Age or Satanic.

It’s too vague and overused a term.

I disagree. It comes in many forms under many names, but it all ends up encouraging people to be the kind of people God did not intend us to be, or to follow God as we should. The various types of groups are all part of the same puzzle. One may focus on this, another, on that, so it only appears vague or had to define.

Based on my research, that is true. I’ve been reading about one of the new philosophies/groups. Outwardly, it has positive goals but mixed in with those goals are ideas that are definitely wrong. One common factor is that man can redefine man and through a mix of utopian ideas and the promotion of wrong/bad ideas as being good and improvements, people are led astray. Truth is truth as defined by the group. Those who are lost or unsure find a sense of belonging and are gently led astray. Be wary of talk about “sacred spaces” created by some unknown person, or “the evolution of consciousness,” and similar. It seems that the intellect is sent astray followed by emotions, and an inability to know the truth.

This “dictatorship of relativism” and “vague religious mysticism” were spoken about by Pope Benedict. The promise of any New Age group that includes man helping man always hides the fact that they are promoting ideas that are wrong and immoral, and that eventually lead to man denying God and believing in men. And no matter how “gentle” these people seem to be, without real truth, they serve something other than God. The end goal is a counterfeit belief system. The final goal is accepting a false version of Christ. He will be known by other names but he will be revealed as Satan.

New age also has a false Jesus. Most new agers study “the course in miracles” which is completely anti biblical. It teaches that there is no such thing as sin, that heaven is already here but we are trapped in an illusion and cant see that heaven is right in front of us. The end result of studying this is the belief that we no longer have to strive towards spiritual perfection because we are already perfect. So the person gives up on all their striving to live in grace and instead they focus on there own desires of the world. Because since there is no sin, life becomes a free for all. This book is studied by most new agers. And I used to be one so I know what goes on in those circles. This doctrine is satanic. It is man focused, self involved evil doctrine.

I know a guy who is completely brainwashed by that book and it has psychologically paralyzed him. He’s 27 yo. doesn’t leave the house except to go to new age meetings. He studies the course in miracles everyday and meditates on it every hour, on the hour. He cant drive, has no job, lives with his parents, and refuses to ever work because he learned from the course that the “universe” will always provide for his every need so he feels no need to ever consider a job or vocation. And this is a guy who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in theology and was valedictorian of his graduating class.

Funny. I used to reject a lot of the New Age stuff because of people like you. Now I’ve come to regret it because all it ever did was fuel me with arrogance and rejection of ideas that could’ve actually helped me in life.

I don’t do crystals. I don’t meditate for six hours straight. (Fifteen minutes mostly.) I do read plenty of the material. It’s thanks to that I’ve had a lot more fulfilling life that’s not ruled by the moralist, right-wing brand of Catholicism on these online boards.

Think about that the next time you ask people to step in your shoes.
