It sounds like some people are superstitious and afraid of every little shadow. Have some faith in your God that he is the strongest force.

Funny. I used to reject a lot of the New Age stuff because of people like you. Now I’ve come to regret it because all it ever did was fuel me with arrogance and rejection of ideas that could’ve actually helped me in life.

I don’t do crystals. I don’t meditate for six hours straight. (Fifteen minutes mostly.) I do read plenty of the material. It’s thanks to that I’ve had a lot more fulfilling life that’s not ruled by the moralist, right-wing brand of Catholicism on these online boards.

Think about that the next time you ask people to step in your shoes.
You cant be both Catholic and new age. The two are fundamentally opposed to one another. Every time you open these new age books you turn away from Jesus Christ who died on the cross for your sins. If you have Jesus as your savior, you do not need these other false doctrines. It’s really that simple.

i thought this was posted already, so i read all 81 posts to confirm. i seriously ask all posters to read the linked page.

What does the Catholic Church teach on new age?

vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/interelg/documents/rc_pc_interelg_doc_20030203_new-age_en.html

🤓
Thank you for sharring this. I have not read it all but the little bit that I have read has made me realize that the New Age way of thinking is not so New Age after all and sadly I was taught and still struggle with the idea or understanding that I can somehow achieve my salvation or manipulate God into giving me salvation if I just, pray enough or suffer enough or shout out the Truth enough. Salvation is God’s gift to us that we can never be worthy of on our own accord. Only He can make us worthy of Himself and He asked or invites and assists us in a very real and personal and intimate way. Satan really does rear his ugly head in so many ways.😦

I could ramble on and on but won’t and will just try to read the rest of it instead.
Thank you again for posting it and may you always know you are in the palm of God’s hand!

Friardchips,

I read this in the link that Jack007 provided.
God is in himself personal, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who created the universe in order to share the communion of his life with creaturely persons. “God, who ‘dwells in unapprochable light’, wants to communicate his own divine life to the men he freely created, in order to adopt them as his sons in his only-begotten Son. By revealing himself God wishes to make them capable of responding to him, and of knowing him, and of loving him far beyond their own natural capacity”.(67)God is not identified with the Life-principle understood as the “Spirit” or “basic energy” of the cosmos, **but is that love which is absolutely different from the world, and yet creatively present in everything, and leading human beings to salvation. **
I believe God being “creatively present in everything” is how I see Him using creation while He is healing us as in saving us or leading us to salvation. I really do believe we don’t know or understand the half of how He creatively does this. Don’t know if we ever will. I do not believe my brain can handle understanding it all. Maybe after we die and we see the beautific vision we will then understand. Anyway I hope and pray that makes more sense or at least helps you to understand better what I am not saying very well.

You are welcome. And I thank you for respecting my post and quoting from it .

Do you have anything better than this canned evangelist ‘argument’? For other people, the whole “Jesus died for you!” sounds like an excuse. Heck, it’s becoming more and more of an excuse to me. It feels like an excuse to reject any outside message that tells me to have a better perspective on life, on my personal happiness, and for what? “Jesus died for you!”

Yeah. Real compassionate.

If you dont believe it why call yourself catholic? you are not.

An adequate Christian discernment of New Age thought and practice cannot fail to recognize that, like second and third century gnosticism, it represents something of a compendium of positions that the Church has identified as heterodox. John Paul II warns …
At the same time,

Part 2.3 describes what kind of new age is being discussed.

👍

I know a place like this. I had left the church and it hung me out to dry. Protestants and TV preachers picked me up and oriented me toward the Bible, and I came back to church. Then when I got into trouble and except for one priest, the church was no help – I got some really good encouragement from some new agey people online. They told me of their ideas, and when what they were saying connected with what Jesus was speaking in my heart, I would quote Bible verses and write, "in my Christian tradition, Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven … " blah blah blah. And they loved it. They posted Jesus memes to each other, mixed right in.

Jesus said to let the weeds and wheat grow. So when I got shunned by Catholics, I ended up planting seeds of the Good Word in the domain of the new agers. Those seeds immediately sprouted and started to grow.

When are people going to quit being fearful and spooky, and trust Christ at His word, rather than thinking we have to do it all Our Own Way. Yes Jesus said let the weeds grow with the wheat lest we pull up the wheat – and your story is just an example of what happens when we insist on doing it our own way instead of His. We think we need to pull up the weeds because we like to see a neat and tidy field – Jesus proved to us that True Love is anything but neat and tidy. We are great sometimes at clucking about how we are taking up our crosses, but what is the path to follow Jesus after that? Jesus went to heaven via hell – we must die to our selves (which are condemned) before we can go to heaven. For us, that means IMO that we acknowledge our limitations and entrust ourselves with Jesus and quit trying to outguess how His message should be cultivated.

I’m sorry if I came across insensitive. Let me try again. I know that Jesus loves you and wants a personal relationship with you. I understand we lose a lot of Christians because they feel unfulfilled and empty just going to mass. So this is why it’s critical to forge a personal relationship with Jesus. You can do this by meditating on Scripture, talking to Jesus as you would a friend, attending a charasmatic prayer meeting and getting baptized in the spirit. You don’t want to fill the void with new age dogma because that will surely take you off the path.

Talk to Jesus. Ask Him to lead you. Say everyday, “Jesus, please come to me, I need you” and trust in Him. He saves. He saved me. If it weren’t for Him, I would be dead. I love Him, and I just want everyone to know Him and depend on him like I do.

God Bless

Most new agers study “the course in miracles” which is completely anti biblical…

I know a guy who is completely brainwashed by that book and it has psychologically paralyzed him. He’s 27 yo. doesn’t leave the house except to go to new age meetings. He studies the course in miracles everyday and meditates on it every hour, on the hour. He cant drive, has no job, lives with his parents, and refuses to ever work because he learned from the course that the “universe” will always provide for his every need so he feels no need to ever consider a job or vocation. And this is a guy who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in theology and was valedictorian of his graduating class.
Sadly even intelligent people are not immune to mental illness. When I was a devout practicing Catholic I exhibited these very same symptoms. I have mental illness. I spent hours reading Catholic books, studying Catholic ideas, sitting and praying in beautiful churches etc. I was also afraid to leave my home for any other reason. I wouldn’t even leave my apt to step 6 ft outside to get my mail.

It was not Catholicism that led my by bizarre and crippling thoughts and behavior.

I am not advocating for “course in miracles” or New Age, but I do think that it is important to not spread fear, paranoia, or any false information or correlation. And it IS important to delineate various practices and philosophies.

Example, New Age music. What is it? What features put it into the category of New Age? How does one know if the music they are listening to is leading to Satan, especially if it doesn’t have lyrics? Should we carry ear plugs in case the music played at work or the shopping center or Dr’s office might be New Age music?

Is everything that might be found in the new age section of the book store automatically assumed to be leading people to Satan…even if some of it is collections of writings from Saints?

I DO think it is important to define what New Age is instead of having people running scared from things that might no be any danger to them at all and might be helpful and in no way against the teachings of the Church.

Quartz watches, liquid crystal displays, diamond files and saws…the list goes on and on. Not saying they posses supernatural powers, but mankind’s fascination with rocks, stones, minerals and crystals has pretty much allowed us to make nearly every technological advance.

they are used in medicine as well.
I’ve made a few bracelets and a rosary (and had a couple made for me) and when researching online various stones and beads to use there are sites that talk about the powers various stones have. Made me wary and afraid to use certain stones just because some site said the stones are used to make one calm or reduce anxiety. :o

If God made all things, and pronounced them good, then should people fear using those things for normal or even holy purposes?

The Church does not avoid the use of gold in churches, vestments or items for the Eucharist, even though gold was used for the Golden Calf, or because people have committed crimes seeking it.

The fact that someone somewhere at sometime used something improperly or with misguided thinking does not alter the God given properties of something. It does not alter the items goodness or purposefulness.

It dishonors God and the goodness of creation to run fearful in the other direction because someone had a false belief concerning something.

This is precisely why I think it is important to delineate things that are loosely called New Age and look at where the issue lies and what should be avoided and what can be written off as simply useless nonsense to avoid or ignore.

This isn’t about fear at all. The Catholic Church is well-known. New Age groups are vague invitations to something that is created by men, and which may incorporate some Christian ideas, but takes those ideas and distorts them. Group after group is a counterfeit that looks real or good from the outside or at first glance, but once you go deeper, well-crafted words lead you to believe that following Christ while adding ideas that are contrary to Church teaching are good. Or that there are ‘many paths to God.’ Jesus tells us that is not so. There are many groups. Each one should be examined. I’ve seen a few examples first-hand. Do not be led astray my friends.

The words “peace,” “light” and “harmony” look good on a pamphlet but once you join, surrounded by smiling people, you are carefully led away from clear Church teaching to the teachings of men. I’ve seen one such group appear and then disappear. I’ve read a great deal of the other teachings. You must choose. Follow Christ and His Church or the corrupted doctrines of men.

Peace,
Ed

I’m also afraid because i dabbled in New Age years ago and i would think of the stones as having a calming influence on me. And im not sure if thats allowed in our faith.

Is it allowed for catholics to wear, say amethyst, which is considered to be a calming stone, for the purpose of its calming influence?
