Post all your thoughts here!!!

Time to change! Time to make the mass more sacred!!!

Stop the liturgists:mad:

Stop the close-minded traditionalists:mad:

And let the true Mass become what it ought to be:)

May the Holy Spirit let us grow in unity! 👍

It would help if we knew what home page you are talking about.

Scroll up this page and click on “Faith” (to the left of Foruons, Groups, Encylo…)

Good grief, I was not aware that Karl Keating was one of those. The things he says in his “appeal” would get a member suspended here if the same were said against the notion of “Traditionalism.”

It certainly makes things a little more clear.

You mean this?

My thoughts?

Changing the Mass into complete vernacular was done way too quickly. In fact, there were some prayers which should have been kept in Latin. (Gloria, Kyrie, Sanctus, Consecration, Pater Noster)

For 40 years, we’ve had to fight tooth and nail about the “for all” clause in the consecration against all the Apologists, bishops, theologians, most in the congregation, etc. Where are all its defenders now?

There are just too many overwhelming changes all coming at one time now.

I think it’s going to be a long long process though… 😦

I hope I’m wrong… 🙂

Of course, let’s remember that when the “Mass” was originally celebrated in Latin, that was a change into the vernacular, some centuries following Jesus and the Apostles (and the original Christians).

I am happy for the Novus Ordo folks (I think). As for me I’ll stay with the 1962 Rite. Can’t waste my dollars on the NO when my Trad parish needs my support.

So you ignore or reject Vatican II? An ecumenical council? And all the magisterial teaching that followed it? Wow. Wish I felt as free to pick and choose what parts of authoritative teaching from the Church to adhere to. As Pope Benedict noted, the (so-called “NO” as you note) Mass of Paul VI is the ORDINARY form. Sorry you feel that “ordinary” Catholicism is a waste of your “dollars.”

What is this suppossed to mean?

Vatican 2 has so much to offer… it’s just not being impletented properly… that’s the problem…

Greek was also a vernacular and many people were bilingual and trilingual so your point? And why Mass in quotes?

I usually attend the EF Mass but I am happy for these changes because I sometimes have a need to attend an OF Mass to fulfill my Sunday or Holy Day obligation due to travel, etc. I believe they will change the tone of the Mass and will help encourage more reverence which is missing in the current OF.

I would also like to see more use of the traditional canon (Eucharistic prayer 1), I think it should be required for the principal Sunday Mass, especially now that the language is being corrected to be a more accurate translation of the Latin.

Since the revised translation for the OF has been in the works for years, most liturgist and preist are well aware of the changes. Most of them do give a more sacred feel to the wording. The main point of centention that I have heard from a priest is the wording being change “shed for all” to “shed for many”. It is my understanding that in latin the word used can be translated to “all” and the contention is that would have been easier to leave that part alone as opposed to having to explain it each month.
Overall, it’s a nice translation. It will take some explaination before it is implamented.

Peace,
FAB

I’m excited to see the new translation implemented, although I hope there will be a more extensive use of Latin.

You can translate it into anything you want; however as I understand it, that one verbum is the main reason for the new vernacular so leaving that part status quo doesn’t seem to make it worthwhile to pursue the changes. Personally I’d rather have everyone do the consecration in Latin; that way the priest won’t have to explain anything as that’s the way it was promulgated.

Mal - But keep in mind that the Novus Ordo Missae itself was promulgated in Latin by Paul the VI and MISTRANSLATED from that LATIN into English.

This is not the TLM- this is the Novus Ordo Missae Latin to English Translation :

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, ACCÌPITE ET BIBITE
AND DRINK FROM IT: EX EO OMNES:
THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD, HIC EST ENIM CALIX SANGUINES MEI
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND NOVI ET AETERNI TESTAMENTI,
EVERLASTING COVENANT. QUI PRO VOBIS
IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU ET PRO MULTIS EFFUNDETUR
AND FOR ALL MEN IN REMISSIONEM PECCATORUM.
SO THAT SINS ARE FORGIVEN. HOC FÀCITE
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME. IN MEAN COMMEMORATIONEM.

Notice how the Latin “Pro Multis” clearly present in the Novus Ordo Missae - is mistranslated as ALL MEN into English.

You encounter that argument not because of the TLM but because of the Novus Ordo Missae itself in Latin says “Pro Multis”

It doesnt say “Pro Omni” or “Pro Omnibus” it says “Pro Multis”
