Is anyone else as psyched as I am? I can’t wait to see the new translation. I realize that it is indeed a slight change that will barely altar the Mass (Except when it comes to songs and responses) but I’m still excited about it. I don’t think I’ll ever forget saying “And also with Your Spirit” for the first time. 😃
 
You are correct to be pumped. Yet, the changes are like a narrow river that is extremely deep. Have a look at this article which compares the original Latin prayers with those we have used, as well as with the new. I think that you will be even more impressed.

Well I was looking forward to it then found out here in the Philippines its introduction has been delayed by a year!

That must be disappointing! The only logical solution to this problem is to move back to Britain. 😃

Over in Australia we have been using the new translations since Pentecost, if I remember correctly. They are excellent.

So psyched I picked up the new Daily Roman Missal by MTF press. Unfortunately, the bookstore only had the hardcover copy in stock. They don’t expect the leather bound or the bonded leather editions in till sometime in January. Patience isn’t my forte`, and I will probably pay the price by having to make a book jacket for it.

The translation is most excellent, more intelligent sounding, and considerably more reverent than the earlier translation. The binding makes the book lie flat when you open it, no gorilla grip necessary.

One dumb question–does the new translation start with the anticipated Mass Saturday evening, or do we have to wait till actual Sunday?

I think it should start with the Saturday evening mass since that uses the Sunday propers. Also, the missallettes will all have then new translation.

On the other hand, don’t bet more than a dime on it. There is always someone with different ideas. :rolleyes:

Let me think about that. What do I like more? Average 30 C daily here or freezing cold in my home country of Scotland? I’ll stay here!🙂

I was with a group of people today who collected all the old missallettes after the 8:30 AM Mass. We put out the new missallettes, put the “Worship aids” (hate that term) with the new responses in the back of the pews, hung the advent wreath and locked the place up for the 4:30 PM Mass which will be the first to use the new translation. So for the Archdiocese of Atanta, yes, it is Saturday evening. For us the first Mass with the new translation should be in the bag by now.

I got to leaf through the new Roman Missal, which replaces the old Sacramentary. Ours is about 1/3 thicker. The children altar servers are going to get a workout because that thing is heavy! The book is absolutely spectacular.

Re: Saturday’s anticipated Mass–I had to work late and didn’t get there. Just another example about troubleshooting a problem that isn’t going to happen!

When I did get home, I skimmed through the new translation of the Ordinary. I know this sounds pathetic, but it’s really quite grand in its style. It was like the experience you get from reading great literature versus more mundane writings. I’m sure I will get more spiritually out of it. I for one think the translators did a good job.

I lived in Singapore for 14 years so what we get here in summer in Philippines is what exists in Singapore every day so the few months of summer here are not a problem. I just turn on the aircon and grab a cold beer from the fridge!
 
I never thought in my entire life I would be so excited about a thing like this…but nonetheless, I am.

I’m such a Catholic nerd. 😛
 
I am all for the new translation; its the music selected by our pastor that bugs me; Marty Haugen again.

so I’m heading south to the closest TLM.

Just looked Mr. Haugen up. No wonder the music leaves us flat. “Spirit of Vatican II” choices again. 😦
