With the passing of Thomas S. Monson as the 16th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the next man in seniority becomes his successor. It will be announced soon with the funeral of President Monson taking place today in Salt Lake City.

His successor will be Russell M Nelson. The next President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the next man in seniority after President Nelson, Dallin H. Oaks.

I pray for these brethren in light of the usual false nonsense currently spreading about the church on the internet and otherwise.

We are Catholics and do not consider these people actual prophets or spokesmen of the one true God. Nevertheless we can pray for them

The Mormons are free to have their Mormon prophet to lead the Mormon people. It doesn’t have anything to do with the rest of us. 😐

Mr. Nelson is even older than his ancient predecessor. The Catholic Church picks old men to serve as Pope, but they are youngsters in comparison to the LDS prophets.

I pray that these brethren will someday have the guts to walk away from the false nonsense that they spread.

And give us an example of this supposedly “false nonsense” that is spreading about the church.

The Mormons would disagree with you. They believe that their prophet is God’s prophet for the entire world.

But their prophet is dead. Where is he in the Bible? Who has taken his office?

They are free to have their Mormon prophet to lead the Mormon people in their Mormon beliefs.

It’s Mormon belief that Catholics worship Satan? Can you point me to documentation on this, please? In charity, we don’t want to slander the Mormon people. Thank you.

So the way to become the prophet of the LDS is to not die before predecessor? No other factors are considered. What if the next guy in line becomes infirm, does he still get to be prophet?

Slight quibble:
Mormons used to teach that this is the Catholic Church. Now, they don’t officially teach it, but behind closed doors, they all know that this is the Catholic Church. It’s just a wink and a nod sort of thing. I know, I was Mormon for decades.
Not just the Catholic Church but all her harlot daughters too (i.e. the confessional Protestant churches). 😉
If you’re not a Mormon, you’re not a member of the Church of the Lamb of God, which makes you a member of the Church of the Devil. If you’re a member of the Church of the Devil, who do you worship?
This less explicit form of the doctrine is what prevails today, especially among Mormons who are too young to remember or have experienced the Temple Endowment before 1990 when Satan’s agent wearing a Roman collar was removed from the ritual.

I wonder why then, the Mormons would invited Cardinal George to speak to their students at BYU, if they believe that we Catholics worship Satan.

Cardinal George to BYU student body in 2010

If they believe we worship Satan, then they visited a Satan worshipper to address them. Strange, don’t you think?

I remember those days very well.

I don’t think it’s strange at all. The Public Relations department of the Church has got to be one of the most difficult and most stressful of all jobs. They are trying to repair damage done over the many decades of this treatment of the Catholics (and Protestants). They will do whatever it takes to try to blend in and act accepting of other faiths. It’s all white wash.

Ah, so they don’t really believe Catholics worship Satan now if they are trying to build bridges rather than spreading the idea that we worship Satan.

We are Catholic. We are to be charitable towards others, regardless of how they treat us, or what they think of us. We are to pray for our enemies, and bless those who curse us. Turn the other cheek.

I trust and try to follow Christ’s teachings. Throwing Mormons under the bus is not a Christ-like attitude, not matter what their scriptures say.

St Paul persecuted the early Church, and was converted and became it’s greatest missionary.
