(Sorry to borrow a book title I read years ago by a certain David Pawson)
We all know fundamentalist/evangelical Christians insist on a ‘born-again’ penitent’s prayer when a convert feels conviction and wants to be regenerated. Later on he is baptised as an ordinance.
Now, I understand the Catholic doctrine is: baptism AND profession of faith to wash away their sins.
Now I was watching 3ABN (Adventists) on cable and the preacher was hammering home the Gospel of salvation and doing it well I must say. At the end people were getting ‘born-again’ (yes, its our Catholic term) by getting in the tank and confessing the risen Lord Jesus there and then.
And I was thinking what on earth are we Catholics doing. Why do we take so long. Why give the devil months to get in and steal the seed. Where is the biblical model for telling peope to start an RCIA course in the Fall and baptising/confirming them next Easter.
In Acts people were always baptised there and then: on the day God made their hearts burn. I completely disagree with how the Catholics are bringing people into the Faith. It wrong: it’s no more biblical than the ‘evangelical model.’
