Just wondering, do you have offices such as Compline like we do?

Where do you think Compline came from? 😉

Though to be honest, I’m not sure whether the current LotH includes Compline per se or not. Perhaps they just call it “Night Prayer”?

(And are you Lutheran or Anglican?)

The Divine Office is practiced in all of the Apostolic churches. However it is followed differently in each tradition.

In the Latin west the Offices are normally prayed out of a breviary, or single volume, and can be prayed alone if necessary. I would guess the Anglican practice comes directly from the earlier Latin.

In the Greek/Slavic tradition it is almost always communal (in both monastic and parish settings), and takes several volumes (at least five) to accomplish at each recital. It differs again in the Syriac and Coptic traditions, but I cannot describe these for you.

The Divine Office has its origin in the Catholic Church. Of course the Church prays the Divine Office. Catholic priests pray th Office daily.

And, yes, Compline (Night Prayer) is part of the Divine Office.

Deacons are also praying in unison with the rest of the clergy and faithful of the Catholic Church. I am scheduled to be ordained in December, one of the many promises, I hate the word oath, I have to make on that day is to pray the liturgy of the hours.

Yes. I belong to an Anglican jurisdiction that has a high ecclesiology & sacramental theology. Ceremonial varies from Prayer Book Catholic to Anglo-Tridentine, depending on the parish.

So then you don’t belong to the Anglican Communion.

About a block from the southern edge of the University, as a matter of fact. From some other posts you’ve made here, I believe it’s a place you know well. 🙂

Lots of reasons!

Papal supremacy. Apostolicae Curae, which most of us still find insulting (not to mention wrong). Mandatory clerical celibacy. The indifferent and irreverent way that Mass is celebrated in most American Catholic churches. Not wanting to give up the great patrimony of Anglican worship and music–seriously, trading the BCP 1928 for the ICEL translation of the Novus Ordo? Trading Stanford, Howells, and Byrd for Marty Haugen, the St Louis Jesuits and Bernadette Farrell?

We believe our faith is already fully Catholic, and can’t be made “more Catholic” by communion with the Roman See. Not that any of us would be opposed to that communion–in fact, we’d all be perfectly happy with mutual recognition of orders and sacraments–but the RCC won’t have anything less than complete submission. No thanks!
 
Yep. My son in law is a graduate of St. Joseph’s.
