Interview with Sabah Khodada - PBS

That was your reaction on September 11 – that some of these people might be involved?

I assure you, this operation was conducted by people who were trained by Saddam. And I’m going to keep assuring the world this is what happened.

Osama bin Laden has no such capabilities. Why? Because this kind of attacks must be, and has to be, organized by a capable state, such as Iraq; a state where they can provide high level of training, and they can provide high level of intelligence to do such training.

How could Osama bin Laden – who’s hiding in the middle of nowhere in Afghanistan in small caves and valleys – train people and gather information and send people to do such high-level operation? We all know this is a high-level operation. This cannot be done by a person who does not even own a plane in Afghanistan, who cannot offer such training in Afghanistan. This is definitely done by a mastermind like Saddam. …

I can hear someone saying to me, “This is one person claiming that this happened. How are we going to check?” How do we prove or, if you will, test what you have to say?
Code:
... If you want to make sure about it, go back to pictures of your government, aerial pictures of your government, and go back all the documents that showed this camp is existing. And go back to my friend who is in Turkey, who could also tell you the same thing that I'm telling you now.
Addition to that, maybe you can find archives of Iraqi TV, showing on the Iraqi TV Saddam’s fighters … putting bombs belted on their bodies, wearing masks. Maybe you should be able to get these archives and see something what’s shown openly on Iraqi TV.

To you, then, the likely suspect here is the government of Iraq and Saddam in all this terrorism. And yet we’re looking the wrong way? I assure you, and I’m going to keep assuring you, that all these things are obvious. I don’t know why you don’t see it. When we were in Iraq, Saddam said all the time, even during the Gulf War**,** “We will take our revenge at the proper time.” He kept telling the people, “Get ready for our revenge.”

We saw people getting trained to hijack airplanes, to put explosives. How could anybody not think this is not done by Saddam? Even the grouping, those groups were divided into five to six people in the group. How about the training on planes? Some of these groups were taken and trained to drive airplanes at the School of Aviation, northern of Baghdad … .Everything coincides with what’s happening.

In addition to that, we heard in the news about meeting some of those hijackers with the Iraqi intelligence people in Prague, and even getting money to get trained on flying airplanes in the United States from the Iraqi intelligence.

Now I’ve heard everything.

LOOK OUT FOLKS, IT WASN’T BIN LADEN IT WAS SADDAM!!!

Dear Lord Jesus give me strength.

Are you seriously contending that the 9/11 attacks were the work of Saddam and NOT bin Laden?

Grand Jury Indictment

** New York – A U.S. Federal Grand Jury in New York on Nov. 5 issued an
indictment against Usama Bin Laden alleging that he and others engaged
in a long-term conspiracy to attack U.S. facilities overseas and to
kill American citizens.
The indictment noted that Al Qaeda, Bin Laden’s international
terrorist group, forged alliances with the National Islamic Front in
Sudan and with the government of Iran and with its associated group
Hezballah to “work together against their perceived common enemies in
the West, particularly the United States.”
Additionally, the indictment states that Al Qaeda reached an agreement
with Iraq not to work against the regime of Saddam Hussein and that
they would work cooperatively with Iraq, particularly in weapons
development.

According to the indictment, Bin Laden’s group also tried to recruit
Americans to travel through the United States and the West to deliver
messages and to conduct financial transactions to aid their terrorist
activities. The indictment also states that Al Qaeda used humanitarian
work as a conduit for transmitting funds to affiliate terrorist
groups.
The indictment also claims that Bin Laden’s supporters purchased land
for terrorist training camps; bought warehouses where explosives were
stored; transferred bank accounts using various aliases; purchased
sophisticated telecommunications equipment; and transferred money and
weapons to Al Qaeda and affiliated terrorist organizations.
The indictment also states that beginning in 1993, Al Qaeda began
training Somali tribes to oppose the United Nation’s humanitarian
effort in Somalia. In October, members of Al Qaeda participated in an
attack on U.S. military personnel where 18 soldiers were killed and 73
others wounded in Mogadishu. In another reference, the indictment
noted that an unnamed “co-conspirator” transported weapons and
explosives from Khartoum to Port Sudan for transshipment to the Saudi
Arabian peninsula.
The Grand Jury document, which usually does not provide a great amount
of details in advance of a prosecution, also stated that Bin Laden and
“others” tried to develop chemical weapons and attempted to obtain
nuclear weapons components in 1993.
The indictment noted that Bin Laden issued his Declaration of Jihad
with the aim of recruiting others to “kill Americans and encouraged
other persons to join the jihad against the American enemy.”
Following is the text of the indictment:

Certainly there has to have been an agreement at some point for your theory to make the slightest sense. Al Qaeda hated Saddam, because Saddam wouldn’t turn Iraq into a fundamentalist Islamic state.

Look at OBL’s statement before just before the invasion in February 2003:

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2751019.stm

It’s scathing about the Americans, obviously, but it’s hardly complementary about Saddam. Towards the end he grudgingly gives permission for Muslims in Iraq to fight on Saddam’s side just in this invasion, ‘despite our belief in the infidelity of [the Saddam regime]. The jurisdiction of … those rulers has fallen a long time ago.’

Mike

Now I’m no expert on American Law but I always thought that an indictment was an accusation and something to be proved in a court. Now if you tell me that it is proof, I stand corrected, it probably explains your thinking about the illegal (in world terms but obviously not American Law terms according to you) of the holding of prisoners in Guatanamo Bay without recourse to the courts. i.e. the indictment is correct therefore we don’t need the law to prove it.

Brilliant strategy.

Unit 999

… Unit 999 is also tasked with countering the opposition groups of Saddam Hussein’s regime. According to some sources, Unit 999 has helped to train both Palestinian and al-Qaeda suicide bombers on how to effectively use chemical and biological weapons.

How strange that an Iraqi newspaper of today mentions a link (conveneint to their continued existance under American rule) and yet the foremost public military authority mirrors the article except in one tiny little detail; it doesn’t mention any link. How strange:

Organization Military Intelligence Al-*Istikhbarat*

al-Askariyya

Although initially subordinated to the Ministry of Defense, in the early 1980s it was re-subordinated to report directly to the Presidential Palace. Estimates of the size Istikhabarat staff range from 4,000 to 6,000.
Administration Branch

This Branch is responsible for all administrative affairs for Military Intelligence.
Political Branch

The Political Branch is responsible for the collection of from defence attaches in Iraqi diplomatic missions. Intelligence is also collected through other agents, such as the extensive networks of informants in Iran, Jordan, Turkey and Egypt. Informants are equiped with sophisticated clandestine communications systems. During the Iran-Iraq War agent reports from Iran on the results of Iraqi air raid supplemented aerial imagery from the Iraqi Air Force.
Special Branch

The Special Branch is primarily responsible for investigations and clandestine operations.
Security unit

Although the Istikhabarat security unit responsible for countering dissent throughout the military was established as a separate agency [the Military Security Service, or Al Amn Al-Askariyya] in 1992, Istikhabarat retains a security unit to monitor its own personnel. Unit 999

This “deep penetration” unit, responsible for domestic and international clandestine operations, is headquartered at the army base at Salman Pak southeast of Baghdad. Unit 999 activities have included infiltratration of opposition militias in the Kurdish enclave in northern Iraq, a planned effort by the unit to kidnap the US commander General Schwarzkopf from Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm, and sabotage attacks on Iranian oil installations in the 1990s. Initially Unit 999 had five battalions of 300 men apiece, and more recently another battalion was formed to counter Iraqi opposition groups.
  • 1st “Persian” Battalion [Iran]
  • 2nd “Saudi Arabia” Battalion
  • 3rd “Palestine” Battalion [Israel]
  • 4th “Turkish” Battalion;
  • 5th “Marine” Battalion [sea-borne operations, mine warfare, etc]
  • “Opposition” battalion
In 1994, following the founding of the Iraqi National Congress [INC] opposition group, the Istikhabarat was assigned the role in monitoring and countering the opposition to the Saddam regime. The “Opposition” includes comprises sections dealing with Kurds in the north and Shias in the marshes of the south.

Military Brigade

The Military Brigade includes a rapid intervention battalion to respond to security threats in the Baghdad region.

[Militia defector claims Baghdad trained Al-Qaeda fighters in chemical warfare](Militia defector claims Baghdad trained Al-Qaeda fighters in chemical warfare)

A FORMER colonel in Saddam Hussein’s Fedayeen, one of Iraq’s most brutal militias, has claimed that he trained with fighters from Osama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda terrorist network in secret camps near Baghdad. The defector, who fled to Turkey three years ago, says that as long ago as 1997 and 1998, Islamic extremists were being taught how to use chemical and biological weapons.

Their instructors, he says, were from a military intelligence organisation known as Unit 999, which ran a six-month course for “foreigners” including the Iranian opposition organisation Mojahedin-e Khalq and the Turkish-Kurdish PKK rebel movement as well as Al-Qaeda.

You do realize that, using the standards you are putting forth here, there is far more grounds for accusing the U.S. of cooperating with and supporting Al Queada than there is for accusing Iraq? I suppose the next step is for you to claim that Clinton planned 9/11. After that I’m sure you’ll go on to prove that the moon landings were faked and that the CIA killed JFK.

Saddam and al Qaeda
There’s abundant evidence of connections.

…
But there’s another speech Mr. Bush still needs to give. That would be the one in which he says: I told you so–there *was *a connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda.

In some quarters, that would of course provoke the usual outrage. Since the U.S.-led coalition went outside the corrupt United Nations to topple the Baathist regime in Baghdad more than two years ago, it has become an article of faith that there was no such connection. Typical of the tenor in both the media and western politics is an article that ran last month in The Economist, describing Iraq as Mr. Bush’s “most visible disaster” and opining that “even Mr. Bush’s supporters admit that he exaggerated Saddam’s ties to Al Qaeda.”

Possible Saddam-Al Qaeda Link Seen in U.N. Oil-for-Food Program

…
Investigations have shown that the former Iraqi dictator grafted and smuggled more than $10 billion from the program that for seven years prior to Saddam’s overthrow was meant to bring humanitarian aid to ordinary Iraqis. And the Sept. 11 Commission has shown a tracery of contacts between Saddam and Al Qaeda (search) that continued after billions of Oil-for-Food dollars began pouring into Saddam’s coffers and Usama bin Laden (search) declared his infamous war on the U.S.
Now, buried in some of the United Nation's own confidential documents, clues can be seen that underscore the possibility of just such a Saddam-Al Qaeda link — clues leading to a locked door in this Swiss lakeside resort. (To review a series of documents, audits and other stories related to Oil-for-Food, [click here](http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,132649,00.html).)

Saddam’s al Qaeda Connection

In interviews conducted over the past six weeks with uniformed officers on the ground in Iraq, intelligence officials, and senior security strategists, several things became clear. Contrary to the claims of its critics, the Bush administration has consistently underplayed the connections between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda. Evidence of these links existed before the war. In making its public case against the Iraq regime, the Bush administration used only a fraction of the intelligence it had accumulated documenting such collaboration. The intelligence has, in most cases, gotten stronger since the end of the war. And through interrogations of high-ranking Iraqi officials, documents from the regime, and further interrogation of al Qaeda detainees, a clearer picture of the links between Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein is emerging.

Clinton first linked al Qaeda to Saddam

…The Clinton administration talked about firm evidence linking Saddam Hussein’s regime to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network years before President Bush made the same statements.
The issue arose again this month after the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States reported there was no “collaborative relationship” between the old Iraqi regime and bin Laden.

This was before or after the U.N. weapons inspectors went in there?
