This is just a quick question, but does any one know if the original manuscripts/pages of the BoM still exists?
About 25% of the original manuscript is known to exist. It is in bad shape after water damage. A scholar named Skousen has worked hard to see what can be read off them. For way too much stuff about it see here. This is just a quick question, but does any one know if the original manuscripts/pages of the BoM still exists?
I had no idea there was such a split like that, so why did more people follow BY instead of the son?Capt. Bidamon married Emma Smith (Josephs widow) some time after Joseph died. (He was not a Mormon) Emma had broken with the main body of the LDS church over the leadership of Brigham Young.
Emma retained her house and thus Mr. Bidamon’s discovery. By most available accounts the “printer’s copy” had numerous errors.
(spelling, Grammar and even some miscopied sections) This led to a siginificant edit after the 1830 edition was published.
so are you saying the original viewpoint is lost forever? even between the synoptic gospels there are differences that shed light on other things. The “second version” that you referred to was a section of the plates that told the same story from a different viewpoint. (much like the synoptic gospels in the new testament)
So if Im reading this right Joseph Smiths kids werent even part of the main branch? The community of Christ is the current name for what was previously called the re-organized LDS church. It is what came down from Emma Smith raising her son from Joseph as the hereditary prophet and leader of their church. They own many properties and valuable items from the early days of Mormonism as a result of Emma’s inheritance as well some favorable court rulings regarding which “sect” of the LDS church owned what.
well the son was a small child at the time of the split. BY was a very effective leader and convinced the largest group of people that he was rightfully in charge. There were numerous other groups that split off at that time as well as the “fundamentalists” that broke away later.majick275-

Yes. The plates were allegedly taken back by the angel Moroni after translation was complete. The missing manuscript is gone forever. JS and other LDS leaders jointly guided the edits to arrive at the “correct” edition.so are you saying the original viewpoint is lost forever? even between the synoptic gospels there are differences that shed light on other things.
That is correct in the case of his offspring through Emma. There are some claims that some of his plural wives who went on to Utah had borne him children. Joseph Smith III, when he came of age assumed the leadership of the “re-organized” sect that is now the community of Christ. They have very different scriptures and doctrines than the Utah LDS church and have always been significantly smaller in numbers. So if Im reading this right Joseph Smiths kids werent even part of the main branch?
