The Pelosi Problem

All I can assume is that these Bishops may believe that in the long run more damage would be done by “cracking down” than letting the matter ride. I don’t see the Pope jerking them up short so perhaps there is more to the issue than we think. It does curdle my blood when these Catholic legislators seem more to encourage abortion than to limit or stop it. Is it better to have a liberal Catholic in the congress or senate instead of a liberal non-Catholic?

excellent article, wrong title.
it should be titled ‘the spineless leadership problem’.
You are exactly right. Many of our Bishops need a dose of Catholic boldness.

I love our Pope and I’m sure he is aware of these situations in our country and pray he is either working on them out of public eye, or there is a reason beyond my understanding why he isn’t stepping in and acting upon this growing cancer which reveals itself as a lack of strong leadership on controversial issues by our Bishops - especially when they publicly disregard a Vatican directive. No wonder many lay Catholics have a problem with submitting to Church authority; so do, it appears, many of our American Bishops. The example is not being set.

This happens on alot of levels though, not just with politicians. I had a women’s retreat (it was done by the Catholic women of the chapel but we also had protestant women in attendance as well) and our priest got up and told them the “rules” but then gave them the additional go ahead by telling them 'You now know our rules. I will not deny you because it now rests on your soul to commit sacrilege." Yes… every single one of those protestant women came up, with a very large smug look on their face, to accept Communion and he gave it to them!!! I wanted to scream so bad!

I do hope the Pope will pull these Bishops up by the bootstraps in the very near future and ask them what the heck they’re doing. It burns me up to see Pelosi and Guilani and other notorious pro-abortion Catholics get Communion with that same smug look on their face as these women I saw at our retreat.

Anyone think it would cause a huge rift which would lead to the definitive start/ declaration of an “American Catholic” church? We’ve got so many practicing homosexuals, so many couples not married, so many of both married/unmarried using ABC, so many girls having abortions. It’s like the Church doesn’t matter anymore. 😦

One presumes that Pope Benedict took all this into consideration when he appointed archbishops Niederauer and Wuerl.

That is the sad thing. And when he brought Levada to the Vatican it raised questions ansd set red flags off for some. Its an old boys network and sadly both JP2 and now Benedict are playing games with many of these appointments and potentially losing souls. Do they really care or are they totally unaware of the collapse in beleif in the US ? One has to ask at times.

Could you fill us non-Americans in on who those three are? I know Cardinal Levada’s title, but what’s wrong with him?
