I really don’t like it. I don’t hear it as much as I used to - Thanks be to God, but it is The Church. English has a definite article and we should use it.

Like the use of "yinz’ in Western PA
I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised. We turn nouns into adjectives all the time in our English language.
Saying, “We are Church,” is basically turning “Church” into a predicate adjective.
I see this as more of an “assault” on language than I do on the Church. But I do think language and grammar both reflect and influence the way people think.

There was a time when “yinz” or “yunz” or “yunzies” was considered improper, along the lines of ain’t.Like the use of "yinz’ in Western PA
(which, if yinz is a plural for you, makes yunzies a double plural. . . . Mind: blown.)
About 20-25 years ago, people started using yunz ironically and it became a mark of regional pride and distinction.
Same as another word that starts with “jag.” When I was a kid, that was a bad word that people did not say. Nowadays, it’s on t-shirts.

They use youse in and around Philadelphia, into northeastern PA, too.Slight tangent: sometimes a dialectal usage ‘fixes’ a problem the standard usage poses, such as when New Yorkers say ‘youse’ to mean you plural.

LOL, you wouldn’t know it from current society members (nobody here but I’m sure we can all ‘think’ of people who speak without thinking first!)
