I’m with the Holy Father on this one. I consider it a little smile from God when I see a cat in the course of my daily travels.

He must be Franciscan deep down inside. A stray cat, female, showed up about 6 months ago with no collar. About 2 months ago we started feeding her outside to separte her from our 2 indoor cats. Yesterday, she went up to our 30"St.Francis statue in the flower beds and licked the face. We call the cat Bosco, but discovered it was actually a female a week ago.

God seems to put smiles on our faces with his creations.

I’m a cat person all the way. Who cares about the Motu Proprio? Benedict wins me over with this one. 😃

Awwww. :heaven:

I knew the Pope was a good man when I found out he loves cats. My sweet cat Lily meets me at the door when I come home from work and waits for me if I’m late. She’s my sweetie puss.

Awww, I already knew that I loved that man!! I enjoy all of God’s creatures too but cats are really special.😃

I love this response! I had read somewhere, that St. Clare of Assisi had a little pet cat. And of course, we all know that St. Francis had a great love of God’s creatures. He referred to them as “brother” or “sister”.

About 2 months after our beloved Boston Terrier died… a small, skinny, malnourshied kitten showed up on our porch. We began to feed him and we gave him a name… “Spooky” (because at first, he was frightened… easily “spooked”). Once we tamed him, we got some vet care for him. I call him “God’s kitty” because he is so well mannered, and so mild in temprament. He is now a thriving, healthy cat! And he definitely brings a smile to our faces. God bless.

,=^…^=, (Hello CAF, from Spooky!)😃

That is a wonderful story. It’s one thing to “like” cats or dogs, quite another to care for injured or stray ones. We had a stray cat wander into our yard last summer, but sadly, she was feral and wouldn’t trust me no matter what I did. I fear the coyote out in the woods got her. 😦

Isn’t there a story about a Pope or saint who loved his cats so much that when one fell asleep on his sleeve, he cut the sleeve rather than wake the cat up so he could move?

I’ve heard this story about Mahomet. I think it’s apocryphal.

“he cut the sleeve rather than wake the cat up so he could move”

and deprive the cat of human warmth? 🙂

PS. I’m a proud owner of two Persians. They’re a little high-maintenance but I love them to death anyway.

We are owned by 4 male cats, and all but one came to us as a direct gift of God.

Pippin, our long-haired gray tabby, lived in a rented garbage house down the street from us. They were giving away kittens, so we took one home with us. The people were evicted and the house torn down not long afterwards.

Merry, our short-haired orange and white tabby, was found by my dh in our garage, half-starved and meowing for help.

Baby, our tuxedo, was brought over to our house by a couple of girls looking for a home for him so he wouldn’t be destroyed.

Only Sammy, our black “panther cat” with touches of while on his chest and tummy, was adopted via the Humane Society.

All have gotten their shots and been neutered. And, all of them are dear to us their human slaves. 🙂

When I read that Benedict, then Card. Ratzinger, used to feed the cats that followed him from his apartment to the Vatican every day, I knew the Church was safe in his hands when he was announced as our new pontiff. :yup:

Way to go, Pope Benedict!
I have two orange tabbies myself, one male Sasha and one female Yasmine. They are our pride and joy. My hubby calls himself “the cat whisperer” as he can get them to do tricks for him. I love Pope Benedict and can’t wait to see him in April. We won the lottery to attend the Papal Mass.
Should I bring one of the cats?

What luck! I’m sure the Pope would be thrilled to meet either Sasha or Yasmine, but would they be so happy to make the pilgrimage? 😉

If it were my Pippin, he’d be saying, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it’s the Pope. Where’s my treats!”

If it were around Oct. 4th, we’d bring all our cats. 😉 Congrats on winning the lottery.

Thank you for sharing that. I think we hold the Popes in such a high regard (as well we should) - perhaps, sometimes forgetting that they, too, are human beings. Ever see the movie, “Shoes of the Fisherman”? The newly-elected Pope had a hard time adjusting to life alone in the Papal Chambers and just wanted to get out amongst the people. Good scene that captured just what our popes must experience.

It was a touching article about our Pope Benedict though. Can you imagine the Swiss Guards letting Rome’s stray cats through - when Catholic tourists can’t get in? 😃

Okay, now with reading the article and this response, I am teary eyed (in a good way). I want to be first in line if Pope Benedict XVI writes this book! 🙂
