Another anti-catholic press release. What is going on? Where do they come up with all this? How could any ‘good’ catholic state they could not stand another individual, let alone the Holy Father. It beggars belief.

*He allegedly told his contacts in China that Pope Benedict could not stand Tarcisio Bertone, his Secretary of State and the Vatican’s second most senior figure, amid reports of bitter power struggles going on within the Holy See. *

Well, that’s OK. After all, according to the Mayans, we’ll all be extinct on 12/21/2012 anyway …

I travel to the UK often and IMO the Telegraph is typically rather “balanced” as compared with other UK newspapers in covering the CC. If you feel otherwise, you should read some of their more recent articles on the state of affairs within the Church of England.

In fairness, the story seems to be rooted in factual events, starting with a publc statement of a Cardinal.

To the extent this infers intrigue and discord in the Vatican, perhaps they can alert Dan Brown - might make a good plot and story line for his next book …

First, no one said that the Pope ever expressed this sentiment. It is the opinion of someone that this is how the Pope feels about someone else. The Pope never said any such thing as far as we know and the person speaking is possibly completely misreading the situation. Or maybe not, but it’s not a quote of the Pope. So your concern with what “good” Catholics do or do not do is misplaced.

Second, the story is fairly pointless. The Italian Catholic press are all rabid for Pope stories the way the Hollywood press is rabid for celebrity stories. They’ll print anything, no matter how minor, far-fetched or unsubstantiated.

IF Cardinal Romeo made these remarks in China and was as emphatic as reported, it possibly leads to reasonable speculation that he knows something about the Pope’s health. A scary thought. Let’s all be praying even more for our Pope.

That’s regrettably a more likely scenario …

I did realise it was not said by the Pope, however it is reported as being stated by a Cardinal. My meaning was how ludicrous the statement was in either scenario - supposedly stated by the Cardinal and I also find it hard to believe that PBXI would ‘feel’ anything differently towards any person and/or show it.

They are human…

There are also politics in religious hierarchy.

There is also gossip.

Ignore it.

They’re just people. It’s not like anyone made Saint Francis Pope. Popes and Cardinals are usually chosen for a lot of reasons, I think, that are more related to their ability to govern than to some quantification of personal Holiness.

You know, you aren’t required by Jesus to like everyone. You are required to love them, not feel something for them, but to place others’ best interests ahead of your own. The Samaritan who picked up the guy at the side of the road didn’t stop to chat him up first, he just helped someone in need. Popes, Cardinals, all persons, may like or dislike as humans will. And sometimes people speak in moments unguarded or in situations where they trust they can be open. Sometimes they are mistaken.

If it is actually true - For a cardinal to say the Pope ‘could not stand’ someone, would indicate a lot of dislike. My meaning of the word ‘feel’ was in reference to the fact that to dislike something/one a person would have to show their feelings of dislike in some way. Not many people can dislike without showing their feelings of dislike. Otherwise, how could any other person know whether a person disliked another, I cannot see the Pope discussing with another that he disliked this person, but he could have said that he possibly disagreed with his actions/theories but not his actual person.

Yes, we do not have to like someone to love them, however to want the best for someone, as is agape, I would have thought meant that you would not wish to indicate your dislike of any person, so as not to offend or hurt them. I still find it hard to believe that the Pope and second in command - both working for God would dislike each other - possilbly disagree in opinions, theories, as can happen in any workforce but not the individual person.

I dunno… during the past year I’ve seen the Telegraph run some false stories and engage in dodgy reporting. I agree that they normally are one of Britain’s respectable newspapers, but they also lurch into tabloid territory on occasion.

For example, their recent claim that Michelle Obama spent $50,000 on a lingerie shopping spree in New York City. This was proven false and the Telegraph issued a retraction.

Or their reporting that female infants in India were being given sex changes in order to please parents who wanted boys. The Telegraph based their article on an article which ran in an Indian newspaper. But it was proven to be false.

Granted, the Telegraph this time is basing their article on an Italian newspaper article. But as others have pointed out, Italian papers are often hot for juicy Vatican gossip and aren’t always reliable.

I’d take this most recent article with a grain of salt.

I just read this in the Telegraph and I was quite disturbed!

I sure pray and hope that there is nothing wrong with the Pope’s health or that there is some covert assasination plot against him. I don’t really know what to make of this article

If its based on an Italian paper then perhaps it is just “gossip” or facts being taken out of context. Generally though the Telegraph is a good paper.

I would not disagree. Truthfully, when over in the UK on business, I prefer to get my news filtered by the Financial Times. You might get less of it, but perhaps that’s a good thing!

Good news: it means the Pope WILL NOT die within a year…

Given the other news leaks about corruption and Vigano being pushed out, this newest development does not look good. Especially given the fact that Benedict XVI was seen as a strong Curia reformer and yet it looks like its completely a mess there at the Vatican. If nothing else it just goes to show that there is political tension of enormous proportions that are simply depressing to think about in relation to the Vicar of Christ. Not everyone is on the same page here, and that is a recipe for disaster…I’m not sure what to think, but it is disheartening…

I think it’s just normal. I imagine it’s always been like this. Remember Paul and Peter? Not the best of friends. You know, power corrupts, so people who have a lot of it need more constraints and barriers, I think. All that pushing and pulling and shoving and jostling, for anything to get done you’d think God would HAVE to get right in there and make it happen.

I once read a definition of ecclesia as “a noisy rabble.” I like the Church as a noisy rabble, a big ol’ family that has the normal messes we all have but somehow does not come part.

I am conflicted about the inevitable death of our current Holy Father. On one hand, the next pope will be a great excitement. On the other, we will have lost a great man and entered into the last, and probably most stark phase of the Church.

What on Earth makes you say it is the “last”? I believe there have been many predicting that for the past 2,000 years, all have been wrong, I see no reason to believe the Church will somehow be overcome…

Lol…hey! That’s why my Myan Calender was so somber! Usually great art…festive! This…black -white rather gloomy Charcoal prints of vague ominous shapes! Makes sense! I was going to complain to the editors!!!

I love these news articles. They make some big announcement and make it seem like the Vatican said it but then actually put what the Vatican says deep within the article.

Reminds me of the more recent ‘Pope preforms and excrosim while walking through the crowd’. Yeah one priest said it happened and that the pope wasn’t aware of it but then you read that the vatician says it didn’t happen.

But the truth doesn’t matter. Headlines sell the papers!
