Where in the bible does it list the books that belong in the bible?
Where in the bible does it explicitly explain the Trinity?
Where in the bible does it say that every man has the right to be his own spiritual councelor?
Where in the bible does it say “bible”?

I’ll give you 24 hours to trip yourself up on these things before I answer your post.

Matthew 16 :: New International Version (NIV)
Peter’s Confession of Christ

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15"But what about you?" he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ,[2] the Son of the living God.”
****17Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[3] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[4] will not overcome it.[5] 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[6] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[7] loosed in heaven.” 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ. ** **
here’s a good start…

I’ve seen this fellow on another thread attacking the Pope and magisterum, and saying that we should read the Bible and heed it, “before it’s too late.”

This guy’s a troll, pure and simple.

I think in Netiquette parlance, he would qualify as a Flame Baiter.

Still that’s ok isn’t it? I’m certainly happy to answer his questions!

I relish an opportunity such as this, as Blessed Edmund Campion observed

I would be loath to speak anything that might sound of any insolent brag or challenge, especially being now as a dead man to this world and willing to put my head under every man’s foot, and to kiss the ground they tread upon. Yet I have such courage in avouching the majesty of Jesus my King, and such affiance in his gracious favour, and such assurance in my quarrel, and my evidence so impregnable, and because I know perfectly that no one Protestant, nor all the Protestants living, nor any sect of our adversaries (howsoever they face men down in pulpits, and overrule us in their kingdom of grammarians and unlearned ears) can maintain their doctrine in disputation. I am to sue most humbly and instantly for combat with all and every of them, and the most principal that may be found: protesting that in this trial the better furnished they come, the better welcome they shall be.

Jesus Christ is the head of the Catholic Church. The Pope is the servant of the servants of God under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Joehar seems to be a hit-and-run poster like our old friend Homer- someone who posts a bunch of anti-Catholic tripe but doesn’t stick around to defend his position.

Yup. The general idea seems to be that we Catholics have never heard these charges, realize there is no possible answer, find our Catholic Faith completely crushed, and become “Bible Christians” (at least as the poster defines that term). Puhleeze!

Perfectly acceptable. In fact, it really does not matter if a guy is a troll or not, we should answer every post in good faith for the benefit of any lurkers online. If joehar wants to lob these grapefruit objections over the plate, there are plenty of people happy to blast them out of the park without labeling someone a troll. Every hostile, half-baked objection answered patiently lets everyone discern the rotten fruit from the good fruit. In the words of Theodin: “Let them come!” 😃

This thought has been bothering me on and off all evening, and then I find a post on it, so here goes:

Don’t you see any contradiction in the Pope now calling himself the servant of the servants of God with the following as authorised by the same Pope?

[882](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/882.htm’)😉 The Pope, Bishop of Rome and Peter’s successor, "is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful."402 "For the Roman Pontiff, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ, and as pastor of the entire Church has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered."403

Nope. Not one little iota of contradiction. 🙂 The Pope is the chief Pastor of the Church, and one of the functions of Pastor is to serve the needs of the community. Well, the Pope is the pastor of the pastors. I think what causes your hair to bristle is the “full, supreme, and universal power over the whole church…which he can always exercise unhindered,” because you have mentioned that paragraph a few times in other posts. Now, I don’t see this “supreme power” as being iron fisted but loving discipline…like a parent. But it would appear that you see otherwise. 😃 (Sound reasonable? 😛 )

With respect, it sounds cracked.

Ah, there is that acerbic wit that we all know and love! 😛 It sounds cracked because you are not open to it, but to those of us who are, it makes sense. You see, we love the Pope and we trust him. You on the other hand don’t trust him because you see him as a power hungry ogre.
