The Pope's aides

Are the two aides that have been assisting the Pope during his US visit his regular aides? Are they Deacons? I was really impressed about how they made sure all was going smoothly at the Masses! I am a new Catholic and some of these things are new to me.🙂
 
I can’t speak for the Pope but I see many Bishops and Cardinals at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Usually when they have “aides”, they are usually priests that work in positions like “Cardinal’s secretary”. They usually know all the bishop’s preferences and what he specifically needs in the liturgy. There also may be another person attending to them that knows the specific aspects of the local church (i.e. a priest or deacon from the church.)

This is what I usually see when bishops or cardinals celebrate Mass at the National Shrine.

Are you speaking of the men who were dressed in purple cassocks and white surplices at the Masses and seated on either side of him? They are the Papal Master’s of Ceremonies - Msgr. Marini, the MC and the assistant MC’s (I only saw two and don’t know whether any others came along) - Msgr.Krajewski and Msgr. Millea

His secretary was also there, but for the Masses, vested as a priest.

(They are all priests)

Yes, this is who I’m referring to. Thanks for your information. They really know what they were doing!
