Selected highlights, I think some of this article is strong and some is weak really and it may be commentary versus a real news article, somewhat editorial. All the same, a few interesting things, we pray for Africa and for the safety of the Holy Father. Go to link for more information on each of the “big issues”.
The Pope’s five big issues in Africa

Pope Francis will go to Africa for the first time this week, visiting a refugee camp, a slum and a mosque.
He will make 19 speeches during his tour of Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic (CAR) and they will probably address these issues:
1. Peace between Muslims and Christians
2. Poverty
3. The Environment
4. Homosexuality
5. Contraception
Five African countries with the most Catholics:
  1. Democratic Republic of Congo: 31 million
  1. Nigeria: 20 million
  1. Tanzania: 14.2 million
  1. Uganda: 14.1 million
  1. Angola: 10.8 million
Christianity is projected to be sub-Saharan Africa’s largest religious group by 2050 with 1.1bn followers from 517 million in 2010. The Muslim population is expected to grow at faster rate, rising from 248 million to 670 million.
For big issue #4, Homosexuality, the conclusion is: “In short: He is unlikely to accept gay Catholics into the Church.” I’m not even sure if this is an accurate thing to say and could reflect the bias of the writer.

Homosexuals can be active in the church if they are celibate. One gay Catholic looked at it as Jesus is his lover. St John of the cross expresses his love for Jesus as a lover. Translation from Spanish. I felt uncomfortable with the wording. I realized w the Song of Solomon, HE wants us to passionately love Him in spirit …not flesh.I figured John of the cross’s love was so big the closest word in Spanish was expressing the love of a lover.
In Christ’s love

How could anyone love someone in the “flesh” who they’ve never seen before? Perhaps they just love the pictures, but that’s idolatry in it’s most literal application.
