The Pope's red shoes

maybe the shoes are traditionally red because red is the color of Martyrs and the first Pope, Saint Peter, was a martyr? 🤷
 
I’m not trying to sidetack the post, but I don’t think I could find a proper forum for what I want to say, so I’ll say it here.

I am disgusted by the amount of anger and hatred that some of the people on this forum express here, not just in this thread but what I have noticed as a trend over the last week. The point of forum is discussion and expression of ideas, which of course will mean differing opinions and beliefs (although we are brought together here by our shared Catholic faith).

For pity’s sake people! Grow up, be respectful and check your hatred at the door.
 
Let’s keep the discussion civil, everyone, or I will have to close the thread.

On the only occasion I ever saul Paul VI (at the Canonization of the 70 English martyrs), Paul VI was wearing red slippers, that appeared to be velvet. If I remember correctly (and there is no reason to assume that I do), they had a coat of arms or some other ornament embroidered on the vamp.

I have seen photos of him wearing what are clearly leather shoes like the ones shown up-thread here.

Twasn’t hyperbole. 'Twas opinion, directed at ugly shoes, not a human being. Get over it, and “dial back” the condescension when it comes to me. 👍

Those shoes are as plain as they get other than the color. They are hardly “hideous or frightful.” “Ugly” does not equate to “hideous or frightful.”

The one does not refute the other. A thing can be hideous or frightful in its plainness.

Ultimately this is a question of taste.
