Hi yes I agree. I would also say that in order to become a true christian you have to be a true believer in Christ and all that He did and admit your a sinner and repent. Then you need to walk by the spirit and not the flesh. So that really could be anyone anywhere and in any church. At my church we do not have this long list of do’s and dont’s outside of what the bible teaches. Besides there is enough in there to last a lifetime of learning. My minister told us that he taught his children that they could do whatever they wanted as llong as it PLEASES GOD. I thought WOW that is great because if they are pleasing God they cant be doing anything wrong. Ive started doing that with my kids.

Well, it sounds good, doesn’t it? But historically such a Christianity didn’t exist until very recently. :rolleyes:

Thats funny, I thought you were a protestant not a Catholic. Your statement leads one to believe the other way around.

Look, Christianity as we know it today is a broad spectrum. There are so many denominations that believe all sort of different things. Yet they’re allowed to call themselves Christians because they all believe in “the basics”, the things set down in the Creed. This has become acceptable that there is such diversity in Christian belief.

Yet historically, such a Christianity never existed. From the beginning the Church taught a uniform belief system and if you didn’t believe it then you weren’t a Christian. The word Catholic, used to describe that Church, has a double meaning. It means that belief in Christ is for everyone, not just a chosen people. But it is also used by some of the Church Fathers to mean that no matter where you went in the Church, everyone taught and believed the same doctrines. If you started teaching something contrary to what the Church taught, you were a heretic. You were not a Christian and your followers were not Christians.

That is the historical Christianity, not a melting pot of different beliefs and interpretations. Only recently in history has such a concept been made acceptable.

Yes I agree. Thank you for clarifying.😃 Although I am a christian because I am a follower of Christ. I know you probably think I am a heretic because I am not catholic(I have been called a heretic on this forum in the past, recently have been compared to gnosticism)but that is ok because God knows my heart and my motives even better then I and I trust Him to take care of me.
 
You cannot be a heretic. Martin Luther was a heretic. John Calvin was a heretic. But you are not. You may have beliefs which are technically heresy, but you are not a heretic. IT has been centuries since the reformation. Protestants are no longer considered heretics.

The part that says that you follow Christ not man.

Want was the intention of that statement? That statement seemed to be way off topic if it wasn’t directed in an attempt to undermine the Catholic Church.

Well,

I just meant I follow what Scripture teaches me and not the world. Im sorry it did come across a little mean towards catholic church. I hope you can forgive me. 😦 I am trying so hard not to conform to man’s ways but rather to God’s ways.😃 It is hard!!!:eek:

There is nothing wrong with many of man’s ways. The only problem is when they contradict God’s will. However, God made us as human beings with our own wills and our own minds. Just because a man came up with something doesn’t make it wrong.

Well,
Most of what man comes up with contradict God’s will. Not all you are correct. But so much of what society teaches is ok is all wrong. For example, society teaches us that sex is ok between two consenting adults. It doesnt matter if they are married. Society also teaches that homosexuality is ok. Just 2 examples. We are also taught that everything should be about us and what is good for us–me me me. God teaches us that we are in the world but do not conform to it. Im sure you agree with me or I hope you do.
 
That;s another reason not to state affiliation. if you say “I’m Arminian.” Ohhh you follow Arminius! or I’m _(Insert affiliation here )" “Well then you follow Insert founder of denomination here”. I have no plan to follow any particular man other than Jesus. It may manifest as being similar to someone who came before me, but if it didn’t and I was the only one who believed some thing about God… I’d be more than a bit worried that I was the first to believe it. (Something Joseph Smith should have been much more worried about! for just one example.)
